How about making cyclists responsible for their actions not just car drivers. After all more cyclists jump red traffic lights, ignore zebra crossings, ride the wrong way up one-way streets, ride on pavements, ride without lights at night, and with the introduction of the mandatory 20 MPH speed limits they can easily break them, all without consequence.
It’s oh so very easy to blame the motorist over the cyclist, when cyclists probably contravene more Highway Code rules in urban areas than motorists. Yes it's the urban areas where most accidents occur, but it’s not just because of the action of motorists but also to a large extent because of the actions of inconsiderate, selfish cyclists.

No cameras or police intervention required. The car will grass you up. Fine will turn up shortly after.

Yes at the moment it can be overidden, but this could easily be changed by the manufactures remotely. The new mini as an example there is a "set" button on the steering wheel that you need to press every time you drive off to disable the speed limiter. However what happens if you forget and then try to overtake on a 50 mph a vehicle doing 45. As you overtake, the car hits 50 and the acceleration stops, just as an oncoming vehicle comes into view. Rather than add to safety, I think, under certain circumstances, this feature could be dangerous. But what do I know, I`ve only been driving for 50 yrs.

At the same time this is being imposed upon the ‘motorist’ our roads have never been so dangerous: the state of the surface, the volume of signage, the traffic calming obstacle course, the electric bicycles and scooters, and the idea that they are some kind of linear playground overseen by tyrannical councils .

The end of very expensive supercars.Whats the point if they cant go faster than everyone else.Although most accidents are caused by lack of attension.

I love cars, and speed, can't beat a V8 Mustang, but fair play ,if there is a speed limit then stick to it, no more speeding fines that will pi** the government off, just go to a track for some speed fun.

I thought the maximum speed limit on british roads was 70MPH... is everyone protesting the limiters a habitual speeder? our laws already prohibit driving faster than 70mph. the limiter is merely a physical device to make sure you dont. as for the device to stop you driving if you are over the limit.... is everyone protesting that one in favour of driving whilst drunk?

It’s all about controlling freedom of movement. Next the black box will stop your car starting if you have done too many miles or want to leave your 15 minute neighbourhood

Like it or not, occasionally going above the speed limit might be necessary to actually avoid an accident. Think of a motorway where you might be alongside a lorry and it starts moving to the right. You choice is either brake or accelerate. It all depends where you are in relation to the lorry as to what you choose to do, but actually limiting the top speed of a car removes one of the options. Leave it to the intelligence of the driver for goodness sake. The next thing is that your car will be reporting you to the police for prosecution! Has this guy ever driven (or depend upon) a car?
