  • In episode 4 of Octopus reacts our octopus comes face to face with a cat. Having never seen a cat, he is cautious as to how he will approach the furry feline. Two beautiful, intelligent, majestic creatures from two very different worlds meet for the first time.

      An octopus has no tentacles. They are called arms. Tentacles only have suckers at the tips, like on a squid or cuttlefish.

    I loved the way he hid behind the rocks and than slowly his eyes popped back up. Also when the cat fell asleep he became very brave and spread himself out! He completed the picture with a cheery wave at the end. Perfect!

    That's great. Octopus seemed maybe scared at first - turning dark then hiding. But when the cat got bored and fell asleep, octo's curiosity came out. By the end he was imitating the kitty with an arm held high like a confident, happy cat's tail ! Of course that was after watching the cat stretching. Was he trying to get the cat's attention by this point ? 🤔 🐙 😼

      Octopuses mimic other creatures in their environment in the wild. Sometimes for defensive purposes. So it's never seen a cat before, and is observing to learn the cat's appearance, form, and behavior so that it can mimic that.

      @@eboracum2012 I'm on the one for Monterey Bay Aquarium too. Octopus are one of my favorite creatures. If I can ever afford it I want my next tattoo to be of an octopus on my left wrist with tentacles wrapping around a couple fingers and my thumb. I'm thinking probably the blue wringed octopus.

    Wow what a reaction from the octopus - he was copying the cat's tail in the end wasn't he - and he seemed to know when kitty had fallen asleep, that's when he came out, danced around, made a big spectacle of himself - before hiding again!
    But copying kitty's tail - wow, wonder what made him do that!

      I think he did it after the cat got up and stretched too. (3:20)
      The cat stretches, then stands still with it's tail up
      Immediately, the octopus sticks out two tentacles and holds them vertically with a curl at the end
      Then the cat sits down and curls its tail down to the floor and little octo lays his two tentacles down the same way.
      Maybe I'm reading too much into it tho.
      Maybe the octopus is just wondering where the rest of this poor guy's tentacles are. lol

      The description mentions this octopus has never seen a cat before.
      Maybe a cat's tail would look a lot like a tentacle to an octo.
      So when the cat moved his tail, the octo thought this strange new creature was trying to communicate with him?

    The cat is is scared. Having had cats all my life, I can tell by its facial expressions and body language. It's not that the cat doesn't give a damn, it's nervous. Both species are wonderful.

    I wonder how an octopus would react to touching fur outside of the water? I got to go hands-on with an octopus once and she came partially out of the tank to explore jewellery and the texture of our clothes. She was SUPER curious and playful. Most enjoyable experience!!

      Liatka mine too hahahaha .. and not just once either hahah. He’d be stretched out with all paws on diff. Sides of the tank trying to stick a paw in and touch it , while also trying to be as far away from it as possible , yet as close to it as he could get without falling in 😂 I love cats !!!     It wanted to touch the cat so bad once it got comfortable knowing that the cat wasn’t a threat! 😂 the best part when the octopus waved it’s tentacle as to say goodbye at the end.😊

    Fascinating how octo seems to checking out the cat while maintaining the safe height, expand the tentacle to look big and try to reaching out with one tentacle.

    The octopus was really interested once the blue beauty lay down. I though it appeared to measure the cat. Loved the peeking at first, then the wVe at the end. Poor kitty was like WTH? Outta here!👍💞✌😷🎃

    The feeling I got when the cat had settled in and the octopus gained some courage was that it wanted to touch the kitty, was curious about it. More I see of octos , the more I appreciate them.

    In some reading I’ve done, they are supposedly intelligent creatures. I remember having a nightmare about one in my early childhood...but then was fascinated with them, and now I love them!
