    Mbeki hit the nail spot on the head. The current anc government doesnt accept accountability and think they can get away with everything. At least Mbeki is taking on the corruption and phala phala matter. He has the guts to speak out about the state of affairs of the current government. He clearly sees how the country has been ruined. Ramaphosa should resign or be removed as president.

    Very good conversation... On Eskom... just last week President Ramaphosa simply said he is not interested in investigating criminal corruption and the involvement of certain Ministers in the Eskom crime. That my dear South Africa that is a clear warning of how badly we need change... major change and a power shift away from the Anc are required to save South Africa.

    Questioning ruling party on how they respond to alleged wrongdoing is important for many reasons. One reason is the matter of credibility inside and outside the country. The governing party’s credibility is in question and this affects stability and investment. Poverty cannot be uprooted without significant investment. Thanks for the analysis. We need more voices from the future leaders of this country.

    Thank you for this analysis..đŸ€œđŸœđŸ€›đŸŸ if SAcans in general were aware of the rules and laws governing our parliament and it's workings and how government should work, these issues like phala phala would be serious enough to warrant serious demand of action by the public. Once again the issue of proportional representation and ANC self preservation are letting us down. Ministers and cabinet members do not take their oath of office seriously, once it is done and ceremony is finished they worry about their stomachs and how to keep them full at the expense of the rest of us. They were threatened to tow the party line over serving the constitution and country to which they swear allegiance or at least say they will serve. In my mind this is actually treasonous. We need serious political education in this country more along the lines of how a government should function,what are the responsibilities of parliament and it's ad hoc committees..and what are the responsibilities of parties in parliament and especially ones that are the helm. We are held ransom by an inept cabal of pensioners who are basically singing for their bread, earning high salaries and perks that the average SAcan can only dream about. If after the next election ANC is still majority in government,then I'm afraid it's the end of SA.

      @mburumbaappolus6728 Pƙed rokem +5

      Mr Gxamza - Well written indeed. However to avoid the outcome you foresee, it is incumbent on every thinking SAcan to become a political activist and go out to mobilize the eligible voters to register, and when that's done to ensure they vote for the change SA so desperately needs

      So very eloquently and sensibly said. My concern is who on earth do we vote for next year? The various governments over the centuries have created such a deep divide between the citizens of this country, that we don't know how to stand together. It's heartbreaking because, South Africans are essentially good people and we all want the same thing. I truly hope we can come together next year and vote in a government who is for the people.

It is clear that the scandal of Phala Phala is far from over, and this letter could well prove to be a game changer. In as much as the Thabo Bester issues was an important one, I think the media machinery (wittingly or unwittingly) played its part in reducing public scrutiny on the outcomes of the meeting that former President Thabo Mbeki had with the ANC's top six. I would’ve liked to know as well the details of what exactly transpired in that meeting, but if your analysis is anything to go by, it would seem to me that he told them their sins (i.e. double standards and inaction when it comes to holding Ramadollar to account). It is very interesting to note that the so called ANC’s integrity committee has not taken any action on Ramadollar for bringing the organization into disrepute (double there again).

    Part of the reason SA "worked" during the Mbeki era was that they ignored the costs of doing maintenance and instead put the money into short term boosting of social structures.
    It takes a long time from when the ball is dropped to when 8t hits the ground.
    The rot in Eskom started in 1998 when Eskom management and engineers warned things had to be done. All pressidents from Mandela onwards ignored them.
    But yes, it was better then. At least the money was doing something good.

      No I think you don't know why Zuma is being painted with a filthy brush, our resources is the main part, there are handlers behind all this propaganda towards Zuma, ask yourself why SA citizens are being neglected in favor of illegal immigrants, why SA is governed by NGOs whilst ramaphosa is head of state, why SA citizens is being held hostage whenever we complain, soldiers and police deployed immediately but on illegal immigrants, drugs, prostitution, corruption, SA youth unemployment, criminality, theft, killings, Satan churches, marikana, phalaphala, Eskom, transnert, bosasa etc, NGOs are quite, it's up to SA citizens to believe propaganda over reality

      Rubbish , after Mandela it was a slow down hill slide .
      Mbeki started the mess when he decided to alter the idealistic spiritual vision of a rainbow nation that was laid down by Mandela in conjunction with good South African people of all races . Mbeki adopted a black African agenda , himself at the helm as MR AFRICAN RENAISSANCE , at SA's expense . The importance of this idealogical change cannot be overstated .

      Besides the 300 000 people that died of aids because of Mr Mbeki Aids policy, we were economically strong, our unemployment rate was relatively respectable, the tax base was large enough to fund the grant recipients (which were almost 3x less than they are now), our electricity was stable, but alarms were starting to ring at that point. Mbeki was given a functioning, relatively new democracy and then Zuma happened.

    Sizwe, you know there was a very important issue raised by Prof Phakeng in her interview around accountability. Now my analysis is that we have a serious accountability issue in our society. We have leaders who don't even understand what accountability is and how they are to be accountable to its citizens. Now when we have that type of problem the citizens themselves don't have the capacity to mobilize and ask real accountability questions. And when I say the citizens I include those who are also within our political spaces.
