Loved the succinct comments on quiet luxury. I also have an association with conservatism and cowboy boots and I don't want to wear them. Low rise pants are a NO for me because I despise clothing that requires me to constantly worry about exposing myself if I move. I spent way too much of my life already yanking my pants up

As a pink loving girly girl I loooooove the Barbiecore trend! 😍 I agree about Y2K though. What I think is a pitty is, that while Y2K fashion is trending Y2K make up is not. I think the frosted colours look so much more interesting than the clean girl make up! It's hard to find metallic and flamboyend eyeshadows, you mostly get nude tones. At least here in Germany.

The neck rosettes are a favourite of mine alongside every other playful neck jewellery that doesn’t stick to the common formula of necklaces . I think they’re playful and flirty and add a romantic goth element to outfits precisely because they’re fabric flowers that reference the ruching and skirt decorations found in that style + other Lolita Styles. It also reminds me of 1990s Bluemarine campaigns which featured the neck rosettes for that very sultry, flirty element and seemed to reference lingerie and the bedroom a lot, seeing as Nicola Brogano is trying to revive that type of girly aesthetic and due to that, bluemarines popularity has risen dramatically + the recent “dark feminine” trend, I’m not surprised there’s a huge love for the neck rosettes and every other frilled/laced element that goes hand in hand with them
I think also there’s a need for an elegance that isn’t so minimalistic and refined but more dramatic and sexy referencing the more sensual examples of that found in the 20s and again brought a back in the 90s, which is where the large pendants and string are coming from and I believe they’re actually usually made of glass but I can see why someone would confuse them for plastic

    • @kellyannefitzgerald
      @kellyannefitzgerald Před 10 měsíci +16

@@nadias6435 what an uncalled for thing for you to say
I think things like the rosettes are something that if it matches your style (not trends- your style, its different) it can look so cool and so specific and personal. That's the kind of thing that people look at you and go wow- she is so stylish and at home in her own skin. If it's not you, it looks uncomfortable and itchy and trendy and you feel silly and not quite right. It takes time and knowing yourself to look at the trends and figure out what is for you, and what isn't. I think very few things are universally "tacky" and tacky also I find is not that useful of a word. Usually its code for cheap, which is something that can be done to any kind of trend, or its classist/racist, but trying to disguise itself. Or its code for maximalist, which is of course not a style that is for everyone. But it's not inherently lesser just because there's more elements.

I think pendant necklaces can be so cool and show so much personality - they can be easy to make or thrift (think entry-level ceramics, finding cool stones or beads or small antiques and putting them on whatever chain or cord you have laying around).
the plastic disposable ones unfortunately miss on the personality/uniqueness front and just put more plastic into the world, though. hope we see some more flexibility with how these are coming back and more people engage with this trend in a thoughtful way

Now I’ve found jewelry in different materials that isn’t metal or will wear bandannas or bolo necklaces but I can get why that is something that is trending. The options for non-metal jewelry can feel fairly limited when you’re first searching.

I would never want to accuse anyone who dresses minimally of trying to look like a colonialist a-hole, but the ethos of going whole-hog "I paid $10,000 for each and every one of my plain white shirts" is based on the kind of snobbery we should be discouraging in this day and age. But dude, as an aside... Lego flowers fill a hole for those of us who can't keep plants alive or have cats who crave the toxic deliciousness of actual flowers 😂😅

I think it's also important to mention that some of these trends have a much higher consumer base in certain countries over others! Cowboy boots never really became a trend where I'm from, (you see a person wear them here and there, but certainly not enough to classify them as trendy), I associate them with the US much more.
Low-rise jeans, on the other hand, are all I see younger people wear nowadays. It's interesting to see what comes to other countries and what doesn't (and this is often filtered through what fast fashion brands makes easily available, too).

those chunky pendants look cheap.... because most of them are, and that's the good thing about them! i also really like string-necklaces, i feel like chains and metals are just more prone to breaking and getting discolored or leaving a mark on your skin, so personally this is a trend i didn't even know about but has been unknowingly participating in all my life! i don't wanna look expensive, i wanna look cute.

Heyyyy, I just came across your channel and had to mention this. I LOVE that the photos you include are girls of many different sizes and ethnicities - its so refreshing to see your body represented in trend videos!! I'm so used to seeing slim, fit Pinterest girls (no issue at all if you are one of them), but seeing a diversity really made me smile today - THANK YOU

I find that this season a lot of these trends are things I have ALWAYS loved. I’m girly and already own a lot of this stuff like clothing with fabric roses or pink or mini skirts. I’m happy to say I can participate without buying anything new !!!
Also I feel you on the cowboy boots, we are from similar communities (rural Wisconsin) and everything you said was SPOT ON. I think the main reason I don’t wear them is because they feel like something only worn by farmers where I am from and I am not a farmer so it just feels so wrong haha.

I have a ceramic glazed necklace on cord that a family friend made for me (she sold them) back in high school (grad 2012) and it’s been so fun to pull that back out and style it!! I will keep wearing it after the trend is over because it has sentimental value and it’s a plain circle so I think it’s a bit more timeless.

in retrospect (since the season is over and my eyes are clearer now)
as a preface, I'm someone who values quality and fit over quantity, i think almost anything can look good as long as it fits you (in terms of size and style), whereas bad quality materials will always cheapen an outfit and make it look bad. i only look for clothes two or three times a year and pick clothes that are well made and fit my style and body. I dont need many statement pieces but in terms of patterns i love lace, I'm a proud outfit repeater hahaha i just want to evoke the look of thrown-together simplicity and comfort
    1. never liked them - to me jorts always look photoshopped on for some reason xD zero movement and that's not rly my thing
    2. never liked them - no comment on quiet luxury, I agree with what you said, and it clashes with what i like
    3. never liked them - do we ever consider the fact that barbie was just one long ad
    4. never liked them - if I cover/crop out the rosette choker in every single outfit, the outfit still looks good lol if anything it just cheapens the look of the outfit. on myself, i think it would just look ugly xD i completely hear you about the fake flower thing too
    5. considered it for a brief moment - but then it reminded me of the stuff i would see in kids stores when i was 6 or 7 and beg my mom to buy, just looks too fake and 7:17 this is ENTIRELY too big
    6. never - the bloomers are just too coquette adjacent
    7. thought about it tbh - it just doesn't look good, also pulling up my pants every single time issa nooooo
    8. not really - dont like how impersonal they look, i dont want to cosplay as paris hilton, i like the sincerity of the 2000s, not the glitz and glam and uhhh opulence
    9. never - i would get regular boots
    10. never - i CANNOT

I enjoy the Old Money aesthetic but I agree that the ideal is problematic. I agree on many of the trends though. Don’t like many recent trends. I don’t dress based on trends, I dress for my personal style, which tends towards being sort of bohemian meets preppy meets light academia meets pastels meets classic menswear meets…
I’m bad at describing my style. I also love anything Victorian. I don’t have strong feelings on the chunky necklaces though.
I hate low rise pants though. I think they look hideous. That’s my own personal choice though. I think high waisted pants are more flattering

i am also a rural-ish wisconsinite & definitely can relate to associating western/cowboy boot style with some of the yee yee principles that my hometown community generally holds. it feels kinda strange to see urbanite influencers wear them instead of the misogynistic, tobacco chewing guys i went to high school with...lmao.

I'm a little confused about the old money trend, because here I'm seeing trendier silhouettes in beige, and that doesn't match my perception of how the wealthy dress. But having an "elegant" appearance absolutley improves the way you are treated, that's for sure.

Totally with you on the shorts and low-rise as well, being a short person myself.
I enjoyed the Barbie movie as well and have been living the whole hype this summer, mainly with this one particular remix of Barbie Girl in the local nightclub dancing my butt off with friends. We did have a babie theme once though, with everyone having an assigned colour. That was so much fun!! I do also associate barbie with the y2k girly girl styles, because that was when I had my own dolls. And oh boy, do I love me some miniskirt and little top combinations :DD
I still look back at the early 2000s rosettes with a fond laughter, so that trend is a pass. Same with all the others you mention here, apart from all that super feminine stuff. The whole ''girly is bad'' attitude from back in the days has gotten me to embrace the sides of me that just want to look like I am a princess from magic land where trees are candy floss and the sky is all different shades of pastel~

When you showed the solid perspex heart I had a flash back to the 1970s when everyone had these, worn a little longer on a black cord. Same with cowboy boot like footwear. In the late 1970ies / early 1980s. The one we wore in my European hometown had no decorative stitching, just the shape of the heel and the straps. Very weird… I may look at trends in colours that are suddenly everywhere, but I only pick them if they flatter me and I like them.

While I agree that the rosette necklace looks very weird and silly, I fully disagree about the legos. They're very cute and a lot more budget friendly than buying flowers every week. The issue with flowers too is that they exploit labour (often times the labour of minorities and immigrants) and they're absolutely awful for the environment! I like that you mentioned fabric flowers that look more like the real deal, dried or preserved flowers are also a great alternative if you don't like the look of the lego ones but I'd definitely not go for real ones if sustainability is important to you as you say.

I feel completely the same about the Barbiecore! I just adore the vibrant pink and I've been willing to participate in this trend as it's so fun, but for some reason I own only one pink bag, and that's it. I really feel a bit sad about it, lol))
The micro shorts/no pants feel quite hard to properly pull off for me too, but I seem to be getting more and more into it. I'm thinking maybe styling this trend with some huge bulky layer like an oversized jacket can help me with feeling insecure, so I'd probably give it a try, especially keeping in mind how easy it is to thrift this type of shorts :)
