    I switched from the Fold 5 to the Oneplus last year and it has been a mixed bag. For one the supposedly so much brighter screen on the Oneplus on paper really wasn't that much brighter at all. The haptic feedback feels cheap on the OP. And then there are software bugs. Adaptive screen brightness never holds my setting it always goes way to dim. CZcams has bugs with screen zoom. My cover picture dissappears regularly to name a few. Software is King. That is why I am switching back to the Fold 6.

    Durability and repairability is a massive factor. On Twitter I'm seeing several people who have been getting broken OnePlus Opens and OnePlus had a wait time of months for repairs. Samsung actually has repair options in the states. And this new phone should be even more durable.

    • @Ronnet
      @Ronnet Před měsícem +5

      To be fair, you can find anecdotes about broken Z Folds and horrible Samsung repair service as well. We don't have proper statistics but based on polls, the Open appears to be more reliable than at least the ZFold 5.

      Wrong it depends on what warranty you purchased. Mine has where you can just exchange the device. Also i never had to. With every Samsung fold i had to send it to get it repaired 2x even.

    • @Megatholis
      @Megatholis Před 26 dny

      @Ronnet in my experience, owning the last 3 fold phones that came out, the inner screen is indestructible, you dont even have to worry about it breaking, it wont happen. However, the screen protector lasts about a year or less before bubbling up in the center, and you can replace it for free because samsung has a one year warranty on it, (trust me, it won't last the full year)

    I chose the OnePlus Open due to its multitasking features! I think they are unbeatable. I use editing apps, and they take too much time to export, so I love playing Genshin Impact while they are exporting! I also love the camera; it captures my skin beautifully!But, I love the colors the zf 6 comes in and its latest boxy design! I had a Samsung Note 10 before, and I love the customization options Samsung offers!

      There is a video on CZcams that shows one plus open vs fold 5. In the video the opo was definitely outshine by fold 5. The open plus open 3 full size apps is just like apps running in the background of the fold. You could only have one pop-up window open on top of the 3 apps while the fold you can literally open every app in you folder in pop-up on top of the 3 acti e apps on the screen. Please tell me how the multi-tasking is so much better. Isn't hitting recent apps button and going back to previous open app the same as the one open toggle?? I am looking at the one plus open hard but besides front screen ratio I can't see the benefit. And I actually prefer to be able to use front screen one handed

      @@TheCheiftallest420 Yes, the OnePlus Open can only open one app as a pop-up while the Samsung Fold can open many. However, I use it to play games while large files are being exported. On the Fold, I can't even open games in split view, and if they do open in split view, they are tiny and not full screen.
      The OnePlus Open has a sidebar. If you open an app from that sidebar, it automatically opens in a pop-up view. This means I don't have to go to the recent apps; I can just switch between apps using the sidebar. For example, while playing a game, I can open the calculator in pop-up view. If I then open WhatsApp, it will replace the calculator in the pop-up. But again, from the sidebar, I can open the calculator and it will be exactly as I left it.
      So, even though it may not be as convenient as Samsung's setup, I can still open pop-ups without going to the recent apps, and on top of three full-screen apps! That's why I consider it the best for multitasking. But, to each their own.

    The 512gb Open starts at $1700 full price and with the $200 trade in offer it’s $1500. The 512gb Fold 6 starts at $2020 full price and I was able to trade my iPhone 11 Pro Max for $750. With no other promotion or sale, the cost of the 512gb Fold 6 is $1270 after trading in a 5 year old phone (granted I paid much less with other discounts and promotions but you understand my point). Wouldn’t that be considered a better steal? Especially when you’re talking about a device being nearly a year old compared to a brand new one.

    They are two different lanes that makers chose. Samsung (and it bugs me when people complain that they aren't innovating or taking risks) has made it clear that this is the form factor they chose. They're improving and making it better. But they want you to open it up and use it more than using the outer screen. They even call the open screen the main screen. They don't want you to open it only at times. OP made it where it's more reminiscent of a typical slab and to some that's what they prefer as it's more usable when closed. Then again, if you have a foldable, why use it mostly closed? Two camps here honestly and each side is "right." It's a matter of what you prefer.

That spring would snap open and it would also snap close when I tried to use it in flex mode which will eventually damage the phone. But overall it was a good phone until I sold it, the fast speed charging on the one plus was great though. The camera however was straight just okay on the oneplus open.

A better front facing camera and zoom? Some have said a better multi-tasking system. I just don't see how. You can't run 3 full screen apps on the same screen. You still have to toggle through them on the one plus. Most apps on the fold run in the background and to get back to them I simply tap the recent app and right back into it. On the fold I'm not just limited to just the 3 apps, I have all the apps still running in background at my disposal. Also on the One plus open you can only open one Pop-up window on top of the 3 active apps. On the fold the video on CZcams I watched they stopped at 7 apps in pop-up on top of the 3 in split-screen and still could have added more. Samsung software is far superior in my opinion. Best front screen ratio and maybe a slightly better video quality what is better about the open plus vs the z fold?

    Hey Kevin awesome review on the two foldables, for me it's the OnePlus Open all day. I traded in my Samsung S23 Ultra for the OnePlus Open because I always had a foldable by Samsung but tried the S23 and I just couldn't stand it not having a foldable and I was so tired of the skinny Samsung Fold.
    So with my trade-in I was able to get the Oneplus Open for around $600 and I'm so glade I did.
    OnePlus to me is beautiful and I love the design. I'm so tired of the boring look of Samsung and Samsung really upset me by not doing a major upgrade and just added a bunch of AI crap.
    But honestly I cant wait for the Google Pixel Fold 2 I think even that foldable is going to be better that Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 and that's a damn shame because Samsung is on it's six Gen.
    And to just let you know you can not charge the new Ultra watch on reverse charging with the new Samsung Galaxy Fold 6. Thanks again Samsung.

    I rocked with my Z Fold2 from when it released all the way until earlier this year, when I had saved up the money to upgrade to a new foldable, and that was around January and I had a choice to make, and I looked at the Fold5 and it didn't look all that different from my experience on the Fold2, and the one thing I REALLY wanted to change was the front display being far too narrow to the point where I typically just always unfolded the phone in order to use it. I actually wanted to try the HONOR Magic V2, but there wasn't an international version at the time, so I decided to go with the OnePlus Open because I had seen nothing but praise for it in reviews and most importantly: it had a 20:9 aspect ratio for the front display and people were reporting that it felt like using a standard smaller-form smartphone, and it absolutely does. Unlike the Z Fold, I actually use the hell out of my front display ALL the time now, especially when I only have one hand free. Finally seeing these videos where you see the Z Fold6 in-hand next to the Open, it doesn't look *that* much wider than the Fold5, which has the same dimensions as the 4, 3, and 2, so I feel pretty validated in my decision to just buy the Open and not see if it was worth waiting for the Fold6. I LOVE my OnePlus Open personally. I don't think I can ever go back to a non-foldable phone again lol

Additionally, there is a $1200 trade-in offer plus a substantial rebate for pre-orders.

    If you are complaining about having to open a foldable phone more than you may want to in order to do certain things, then you shouldn't even be using a foldable phone. It is this large internal screen that helps you become more productive than you could be with your typical phone as well as enables you to enjoy content in a more engaging way. So if opening a foldable is a problem, just stick with the candy bar style.

  • @shawbox72

    I felt the same way about the Fold 6 being less intriguing in added features, repeating those found on the Fold 5. Coming from the Fold 4 myself, I found repeatedly saying that these follow-ups would (very much) be the same. So, I saved my dough there. The OnePlus, on the other hand, would wow me in more ways than one; of course, as Oneplus’s first foldable device, we could easily expect much more on their next one. My verdict: Oneplus. Awesome video Kevin, and really dig the watch band too.

And then use a third S24 Ultra display for the cover screen and the same camera system from the S24 Ultra and the built in S Pen in a Fold factor????? Samsung literally has all the hardware and software to make it happen and they don't need to reinvent anything new.

    One thing no reviewer realizes, is there's a vibrancy slider now. So just putting it on vivid won't make it pop. You have to go in the advanced settings, and raise the vibrancy and it'll remove that washed out look. Because I compared into the Fold 5 and wondered why it looked less vibrant on vivid, but then found the new slider.

But that OnePlus is so clean and fast, for a cheaper price! But, I live in a dusty, dirty area, in the mountains to be specific. And, I think that IP48 rating is worth considering for me. Only thing I'll miss from the OP Open is the IR blaster and the super fast charging. I hate the software with all the bugs and problems it has and I absolutely hate One Plus's customer support. I went from the Fold 2 to the Fold 3, Fold 4, Pixel Fold to the OP Open and now preordered the Fold 6. My main reason for leaving Samsung was because of how much I got tired of using the front screen on their fold's and how narrow it is and all the small upgrades every year. The Fold 6 is exactly what I've been waiting for in terms of physical appearance. Just wide enough to where it's not super narrow and still able to use with one hand comfortably. The Open was a little too big to use the front screen sometimes and my hand would get tired just going through social media when I'm laying down. I also forgot how much I enjoyed Dex which is unbeatable to any other fold imo. Everyone has their own opinions and what they're looking for in a fold but it's nice we have all these different options with all these brands and their folds!
