      Be very careful with buying Spectre x360 series of laptops, HP support equals to zero and this models of computers have huge issue of motherboards burning. Mine died this week and HP does not care at all while laptop was 1500 euros. There is literally tons of users reporting the same issue with motherboards being burned as laptop heats a lot and is not sufficiently extracting the heat which ends up burning the motherboard, and that is basically the most expensive part on the laptop. Bought mine in 2016, used it only for business travel which would be less than 1 year, doesnt want to turn on anymore. Tons of users reporting the same issue, power light blinking but laptop does not want to turn on. This is happening at least since 2013 but HP doesnt care as long as we pay them. No more HP for me, they are scammers.

Easy setup and not too much bloatware and very simple to uninstall The few stupid apps they toss in. It syncs with my phone for text and voice messages. Very light and fast. Comes with 2 USB-C ports and 1 USB-A port. I also got the USB-C to HDMI dongle. Very classy looking.

    I saw this review at least 5 times, but since yesterday I finally managed to buy my own "gem cut" spectre 13(it was finally on sale at Best Buy-$200 off!), I came back to watch it once again. This is the best review of my new laptop, period. I bought the 1w screen version because of the better battery life and also because the one with the privacy screen has noticeably dimmer and less saturated display, which is not good if you're like me and like to watch lots of videos on it.

My 2017 touchbar MacBook Pro is absolutely breathtaking compared to it. And one more thing. The Spectre is beautiful, but it’s not sturdy. Macs are super sturdy. You mentioned an available 1 watt display. Like on the Folio, HP does not appear to be advertising this feature. Where is that information coming from and how would a consumer know what they are getting when they are customizing a machine? HP doesn't even use the same description to describe the displays on the folio and this machine (non-sure view). Finally many reviews mention optional LTE wireless connectivity. I can't seem to find any build configurations that support that.
    A review of the 1 watt display quantifying what you are getting and what you are trading off would be extremely helpful to consumers.

    • @AlessandroRoncone
      @AlessandroRoncone Před 5 lety

      As far as I understood, the LTE option will be available later in 2019, whereas the 1W 1080p display was advertised back in late October when they first released the laptop to the press. It was the crucial feature to allow for those crazy 22hrs of battery life. No mention on this ever since, though. In my opinion, it is sort of a hit and miss with HP: they haven't uploaded their website yet (at least in the US) with any meaningful information on the new model, although it is already shipping and on display in many BestBuy stores!

    I've been looking into the gem cut 15" Spectre X360 for a while now and trying to decide on the GTX 1050 Ti version over the MX150. When you do the review of that, could you cover some specifics of the graphics performance for CAD? I use Fusion 360, Inventor, and SolidWorks and I have not been able to find good answers on if I should get the 1050 Ti version over the MX 150. The best info I received (I think) is that most CAD doesn't really utilize the clock speed or cuda cores, but rather just the VRAM. I'm not sure how true that is, but I would love it if you could potentially touch on the CAD performance differences on the 1050 Ti vs the lesser available MX150. I should also add my hat to the ring of wanting to know more about the thermals. I'll often use the laptop for regular browsing and lighter use so I don't want the laptop to bee really noisy with the fans constantly running just for some web browsing and the like.

    I just bought the 15" version. It's is pretty awesome. The battery life is excellent. The processor is very quick. It does get dangerously hot without some configuration though. I accidentally let it get up to 100°C for a few seconds while installing Visual Studios. Mine has the Geforce GTX1050-Ti max, which is decent, but not awesome. I can play Skyrim on 4k Ultra settings and get ~40-50fps, but I think it would struggle with newer games. Overall a great buy once you handle the overheating problem!

    I bought this laptop and ended up returning it. I have another Spectre with the 6th generation i7, so I thought this would be a great upgrade. The biggest issues I had was with the touch pad sensitivity and the keyboard. In addition to the sensitivity, I couldn't figure out how to change the size of the left/right click areas on the touch pad (something I can do on my older Spectre). Additionally, the keyboard backlight automatically going off after 10(?) seconds of inactivity drive me nuts too. I opened a case with HP support for both issues. There was no fix, so I ended up returning the unit. The laptop was beautiful and the 4k screen was amazing, but I felt the keyboard and touch pad were a big step backwards.

    One thing of note, the Stylus Nib, although designed to be replaceable, they do not offer the ability to purchase additional ones, and you are required to purchase an entirely new pen. It was very disappointing to find out after having purchased one...

    • @StefanVlD
      @StefanVlD Před 5 lety +4

      Yes. I got mine two days ago. The fans are running constantly, even with basically no load. As soon as I open a browser they speed up. I've tried PUBG for a few minutes, let's just say that if you game you need headphones. I'm really disappointed, it looked like the perfect notebook for me.

      Any thin convertible with a strong dedicated GPU and quad core CPU will throttle. You can undervoot and repast to get a little more thermal headroom, but you cannot effectively cool these devices. Traditional laptops like the Thinkpad x1 extreme, Ideapad, and Asus Pro dona better job with the 1050ti but still throttle, just not as much. The only true workaround without just getting a gaming device is to use an external GPU that handles its own cooling.

      Do you lug it around? If so, go for the 13" if not go for the 15". Also if you plan on using it in tablet form the 13" makes more sense. If not, the 15" makes sense.
