  • I visited the home of Cefn Druids in northern Wales! "The Rock" as their football stadium is known has to be the most unique stadium within Britain!!!

What a lovely setting for a stadium! Up until the 1930s Norwich City's ground was an old quarry known as the Nest. The club had to move to Carrow Road because the Nest was deemed unsafe. I really enjoy these videos because they show there's far more to football than the PL, Champions League etc.

Great video, and a great ground. Might try and get over from Dublin for a game. If I climb up Howth Head on a clear day, I can see Wales, so no excuses for not going. If the Welsh FA followed the Irish model and switched to a Feb/ Oct season, crowds would increase considerably, and European results would see Welsh clubs knocking on the door of the European group stages because most of their European opponents would still be in pre-season. A quarter of a million, give or take, for getting through every qualifying round, and Shamrock Rovers over here will be getting the best part of five mill for qualifying for the Europa Conference. Good luck to Wales in the World Cup, Ireland has officially adopted you :)

Great little video, for which many thanks. The channel Sgorio is pronounced with short 'o's, like the o on of, not the o in only. The accent, it being a Welsh word, is on the first o. The place where you are, Cefn, is pronounced as if the f was a v, and literally means The Back or the rear side, presumably referring to the village's inferior geographic position or historic status in comparison with a more important place nearby. Football in Welsh is pêl droed (ball for the foot) btw.

Cefn is Welsh for back, so the club's name literally translates to "Druids back".
No idea what relevance that may or may not have to how the club got that name.
A simpler one along the same lines is a team based in a town near Blackwood in South Wales, called Cefn Fforest, which translates to "Back (of) Forest" because the village is situated (you'll never guess this)..... Behind a forest 😂.
