Not to mention but coaching in Australia is definitely hard to make it pro due to its popularity down here. We don't have FA or L1/L2 courses here. And the certificates that you do acquire just aren't good enough to land interviews. Sucks to be honest but might have to try another country.

Hi Neil, thanks for taking the time to make this video and share your wealth of experience.
I am a 17 year old sixth form student who has been coaching for just over 4 years now. I start my FA level 2 badge in about a months time, and I am currently debating which career path I want to go down. I am the coach of my own football team at a charter standard club, and also assist with running two teams at my school. On top of that I run a foundation phase session every week with a company that aims to run community schemes.
If I was to pursue a career in football, what advice do you have for making contacts? I have reached out to people I know that have contacts in local “big” clubs and football league team etc, and would like to get some experience within an academy system with the aim to joining on and then later getting my uefa and youth badges too. What would you say is the best method to get involved with these clubs and gain higher level experience? What is the best pathway into higher levels of coaching ?
Thanks again for sharing this, it was incredibly informative and useful. I look forward to your reply. Thanks.

Mustff I stumbled into it at 12 when my younger brothers team needed someone to assist on their football tour. They then needed an assistant all season and that’s where I started. Since then I’ve had my own team and have progressed since then. I have just started my FA level 2 so hope that will help me get to where I want to be.

Cause I’m also debating doing a physical geography degree as it might be better for job prospects?

    • @1234JamesBailey
      @1234JamesBailey Před 5 lety

Mustff I have thought the same for the UCFB course. For me it’s depending on what qualification you currently hold. If you have your level one or two, I would try to progress up the badges and take whichever degree is your passion, but if you aren’t already, and football is what you really want to do, go to uni for it. I assume you’re in year 13 now?

James Tolley ye I was think of doing both badges by next September (when uni starts) so I would be eligible, but do u think I would have enough time do them by then, while doing A-Levels?

I really want to pursue becoming a football coach but i was wondering what the pay was like. Obviously the further you progress the more you will be paid, but i was wondering is a job like this a risk to take and financially stable in the beginning as you learn and take the courses to complete your badges. I want to go into coaching because i love football and love to dissect the game, however i feel it's a risk as i could be in another job with more money. Anyway, i would love it if someone could educate me on wage for this profession at all aspects of the game in a little more detail.
    Thank you

    Hi Neil,
Fantastic video, really informative and helpful! How much did the badges cost in total, if you don’t mind me asking? Did you have income from another job while completing theses badges?
Thanks for the help, really appreciate it!

Hi, Thank you for watching my video. Really pleased it was of some help to you. In total it was just over $5,000. I was working / coaching that helped me finance the courses I enrolled on. Only when you get to an elite academy level will you be financed for your courses However, that is not a guarantee either.

Hammed, thanks for your message. Yes, that's correct. I'd try and study as much as possible in the UK whilst getting experience, before heading abroad.

Do you think playing at a semi-professional to professional level is essential to being a coach at a professional level?

Good afternoon Neil, i'm currently studying in Beijing, China and i really love soccer. I'm captain to most of the teams i play for here and i would like to start out my coaching career. Kindly requesting for a few tips and guidelines on how and where to start from. If you don't mind can i have your email where we can exchange more vital and helpful information.

Magezi, as explained in the video, you will have to start from the bottom. Seek out opportunities that will expose you to on the field experience. This is the best way to learn. Ensure to surround yourself with supportive and experienced coaches.

What college degree do you think is the best to take to become a football manager, I personally do believe having a finance degree would help me to get to that goal, do you agree with that degree choice, or do you recommend something different

Ali Al Khamiri No finance wouldn’t really help, a sports science or sports management degree would be the best
