    Thanks for the video - Only thing I dislike on this and other similar videos that I find is that so many people have already pulled it apart and undone everything and made it look so easy...

    This is an excellent video. I just completed changing the impeller in my outdrive.
    One additional comment in separating the out drive housing from the lower unit is that in the front part of the out drive there is a oil connection that must be disconnected by sliding a clip to one side on the connection as well as a 9/16 cap head screw that must be removed before the units can be separated. After removing all 6 screws holding the units together, the units separated quite easily.

      What year is your mercruiser stern drive?
      The hose connector towards the front of the boat/stern drive that connects to the lower gear housing near the shift shaft mechanism on the lower drive unit isn't going to be for an oil line....It's mercruiser speedometer connection to work the MPH gauge up at the helm as the gauge is normally moved by water pressure while underway.
      The need to remove the speedometer hose is done before removing the whole stern drive from the boat or if you're just removing the lower gear case housing only to gain access to the water pump impeller on Alpha drive models....Bravo stern drives have a speedometer connection too but no water pump impeller as the water pump impeller for Bravo drives are belt driven mounted to the engine.

      The stern drive is 1998. That could have been the Speedo connection. I stand corrected, still must be disconnected however.
      My point was more the bolt holding the upper and lower together at the front of the drive needed to be removed to enable separating them. Total of 6 connections holding the two pieces together.
      Still a top notch video in my opinion.

    My impeller was changed almost two years ago... how long does it need to be changed?

    • @NoName-bi3vs
      @NoName-bi3vs Před 5 lety

      Sort of depends on what model and year stern drive you have as the times to change can vary; 'Plus this also depends on what type of "waters" you normally run in and if you've sucked up any known debris as of late....The best advice to start out with would be to see your owners or service manual if possible.... Or ask in the following link too,

    Can this be done with the outdrive still on the boat?

    • @eviloctober
      @eviloctober Před 10 lety

      yes you can the upper unit stays on the boat the lower just drops off. no need to mess with the trim arms etc.. just make sure you pinch off the resovoir line in the boat so you dont lose all your fluid if so equipped. make sure you have it in foward gear drain the lube, then watch this video chrisa660 did a awsome simply awsome job by the way.
