  • Remco Evenepoel's Tour De France DREAM Is FAR FROM OVER
Remco Evenepoel’s first race back from his injury didn’t really look like something we’re used to seeing from the Belgian, with him finishing far behind the winner Primož Roglič. But despite his underwhelming performance, Remco finished the most important pre-Tour ride with a wide smile on his face. And despite him cracking completely at the Dauphiné, Remco is sure there’s no need to panic for the Tour de France, and he’s promising us a showdown we’ve been waiting for since last season. But could Remco really pull it off, and make his Tour dream a reality, despite his poor performance at the Dauphiné?

He won the ITT and did finish in the top ten of the GC, and people are talking like he could not even finish in the top fifty.... It wasn't bad at all, the question is maybe if some of you have realistic expectations ?
Remco is very honest about the fact the Vingegaard, Pogacar and Roglic are stronger at this moment, and he aims a top five in the Tour, which is very well possible...

I have a hard time seeing Remco in the top 5. If we assume that Vingegaard enters and finishes the tour, then the rest of the top 5 will be occupied by the Yates brothers plus some Spanish or French rider. Remco is just not a Grand Tour rider. Similar to Pidcock, he has good performances on very specific days but neither have consistency throughout an entirety of a tour. Remco will crack in high altitude, late stages of the TdF and lose 5 minutes or more on a single stage. I don't even see him in the top 10, frankly.

For Remco to win a Tour there would need to be three time trials (a la Wiggins in 2012) and Vingegaard and Pogi would both need to either not be in the race or out of form/injured. He is the best time triallist in the world and a cracking one day racer but he's not Tour de France winning level for a three week race. In 2023 Pog crashed at LBL and suffered wrist injury. This year Remco crashed harder and needed operation. Even though Pog won a stage, he suffered greatly while Ving rode away. "I am dead" said Pog while being towed up the mountain. Could Remco do better than Pog? Could Remco's body responded better? I don't think so. We may see Remco utters "I am dead" in his head while following Pog up a certain mountain.

They're different injuries and everyone recovers differently from the same injuries anyway. That said, I don't think Remco is up to snuff without that injury. He may get there eventually but not yet. That said, he wouldn't be the worst cyclist to win the TdF in fairly recent history.

Assuming Tadej wins Le Tour, it's slightly possible Remco could podium, other riders would have to experience bad luck I hate to say. As you have Jonas taking a podium spot, (if he shows up and is in decent form), and Roglic taking the 3rd podium spot. And you also have to beat Jorgenson who looks to be on good form (all of that would depend though on his role in race, whether he has to play super dom and help pull or if he is given a green light to podium). Who knows, still a few weeks away, and there looks to be a lot of good GC riders in this years Tour. Should be fun.

Pog has the Giro legs under him, but also he has the greatest "super vitamins" in the peloton.
