A lot of people complain about him overplaying and not playing the originally written parts, but why do you think Javier and tosin rave about Matt and stand there in awe when he does solos...people might interpret it as him trying to show off and overplaying but that's what this band is all about, it's an instrumental band all amazing in their respective instruments. That's how they became as big as they are, writing incredible intricate parts and showing off what they've got. Matt has taken animals to another level and almost all real musicians who understand what's going on would agree.

Agreed. Their bread and butter is showing out every chance they get. I, for one, absolutely love it.
I can't even comprehend how somebody would not like what Matt is playing and even complain about him overplaying. That's like complaining if Nile play too fast. It's what they are known for and Matt just makes it better. He's one of the few "new" drummers that I actually find interesting.

I would never say he overplays, it's simply his style, which is incredibly creative and complex.

they are great
definitely the best drummer the human race has seen so far, he has the most finesse and power, and dynamics, and he can probably play anything that can be written or thought up by a human, maybe even a computer at a push. a real virtuoso.
i really don't think he is overplaying. like other people have said, it's an instrumental band, for musicians, it's not meant to be "pop drumming" where you play only beats and fills to transition parts.
For the love of all that's pure.. I can't wait until live music is back.

Underrated, brilliant drummer
everyone complaining about it being complicated and such ... its not meant for everyone some people may hate it, others may love it .. its the most subjective argument one could have. I for one love AAL the complicated rythms and sense of urgency in most of their songs appeals to me, i look at it as though you're reading a book, every page helps progress the story and evolve more on the previous ideas ... their music is not cookie cut, every part is meant as a progression to the previous one... just like life basically, blink and you missed it ... i think that you have to 'listen' to this type of music .. you cant just let it play whilst doing something else, just like a book .. if you're reading and thinking about something else you probably have to go back and read it again .. Long story short .. AAL ze best !

Absolutely insane skill. Its crazy, when Animals was touring with Chon and Conquering Dystopia, seeing Alex Rudinger(sorry if i spelt it wrong) and Matt in the same night. Two of the best drummers i have ever seen.

I can see how some people think too much is going on, but I honestly wonder if some people just have trouble following the complicated rhythms and 67/375 time signature. Fucking PHENOMENAL technical ability and song writing. Keep it up Matt/Tosin/Javier
Usually people who say that are the people who's brain has a hard time with comprehending the time signatures all going on at once. It's not all just polyrhythms it's also being in tune with the beat or rhythm. They just don't understand music as well as they think they do, hence why "their is too much going on".
