I'm currently reading Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, and had a great convo with a customer who had read it and was buying Circe. Some of us are more introverted than others, but most of us are working in bookstores because we love books, and books are often the topic that will bring us out of our shells!

    I have a book recommendation: “Mornings in Jenin”. It deals with the conflict in Palestine and is very eye-opening, but is also a beautiful, moving book that will break your heart. I think it’d be so interesting to review in light of the recent events.

    What I loved about living in the UK was the endless amount of bookstores, especially charity shop book stores. I absolutely loved them. This video brought back memories 🥰

    I literally just finished Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, and it was a rollercoaster, it made me feel so melancholic, but I did find myself rooting for Eleanor and her journey.

    I'm at uni in Scotland but Cambridge is my home town. This video was just like a hug from home for me.
    I absolutely love the haunted bookshop but I really hope you visited the Indigo cafe next door (really lovely place). Thank you for the nostalgia

    Eleanor Oliphant is such a good book! I especially adored the friendship(s) in that one, but be prepared to be completely destroyed, because omg I was not okay. And Cambridge is beautiful as always 💛

    If you go back to Cambridge, I'd recommend G. David, another bookseller just around the corner from the haunted bookshop - it has very similar vibes, and quite good prices for the most part! (There's also a fabulous antique section that you can drool over)

    A couple years ago having fun meant going out with my friends and drinking, now it's putting on my comfiest pj's and watching book hauls on CZcams then getting the books and reading them. I'm 25 and proud of myself.

    My sister went to uni at Cambridge and I used to visit her there multiple times a year and I even lived there for one summer, and I think it’s one of the most beautiful little city I’ve ever visited! The city center is small and cozy, all the old buildings are beautiful and the surrounding “country side” around Cambridge is also so beautiful. There is an apple orchard not too far from Cambridge where you can get scones and tea and it’s such a wonderful place! I really miss Cambridge ❤️

    I really recommend ‘The Melting’ by a Belgian writer called Lize Spit! It’s the English translation of her debut novel ‘Het Smelt’. I thought it was a really captivating story and it’s one of my favourite books 🌼

    highly recommend the antiquarian book shop too !! shame you missed it, they're doing books for like a quid each & have the cutest little basement of books - the entrance is hidden behind a church near king's parade

      If you can read in English I recommend ordering on book depository, I’m in the same situation where in Switzerland a book costs twice the usual price so I now order new releases online and shop classics secondhand

      @@ola0915 I’ve heard about book depository and it seems nice because of the free ship but I never ordered anything there. I bought all my English books on amazon because of a sale where you buy 3 books and the cheapest one is for free.

    With everything that is happening in India at the moment, I have no idea when I can visit a bookstore again. So watching this video made me happy. I am now interested in Kohra Ghana and as I can read Hindi, I will try to pick it up sometime.

    Noticed that you haven’t read Hamnet! It’s an amazing piece of world building, albeit a bit slow to get into. It’s a pity you didn’t get the waterstones special edition (it’s a red hardcover and makes the H on the cover look so much more ✨majestic✨)

    Gotta say, Hamnet is a truly spectacular book. I sobbed through the middle section. It reads very similarly to a Shakespearean tragedy (no surprise there, it's immaculately researched and structured) so you get that wonderful surge of catharsis at the end of the book as well. Can't wait to see what you think of it!

    Thanks for the video, I just lived my best life living vicariously through you. I moved out of Cambridge last year because of covid. I had to go back to France and I can't find secondhand English books anymore. I literally dream about these places on weekly basis.
    Ps. The charity shops on Burleigh Street are great for bookshopping.
