- In this video, I show you how to quickly replace your camshaft position sensor. The only tools needed are an E8 Reverse Torx socket, a ratchet, and a little pick for the connector.
We used an eBay sensor and it WORKED! It was about $11 dollars for the sensor, but we always recommend BMW or OEM equivalent part for these cars.
Took about 5 minutes start to finish and is an easy job. Let me know if you have any questions or comments! - Auta a dopravní prostředky

oscarin diaz I am glad :) was it easy for you to do?
I’ve been trying for hours and I still can’t get this one off. It’s a tight space
Same process for my 2007 335i e90 n54?? Thanks
Is this the sensor for the insight or outside camshaft?
What were the signs of malfunction? what was the error code
Do you know what size o ring those sensors use?
What are some signs of a bad cam sensor?
Is the exhaust and intake sensor the same part ? Every where I look they seem to come up as the same part
Could this cause my car to turn off while driving and not starting again no crank
Perfect vid detailed clear explanation love it
Thank you! Appreciate it :)
Finally a us version
I have this code and also have a crank no start problem any suggestions?
Late but get a scan tool it is 100% necessary. The DME will detect what is wrong and put you in the right direction. For example crank and no start could be a sensor that looks just like this called the Crankshaft position sensor and the scan tool will detect this fault. OR a high pressure fuel pump not delivering fuel. You will get a code for this as well.
Did you need to unplug your negative battery terminal first before sensor replacement?
I personally didn’t. Never a bad idea though!
My car is showing code 2AA4 - inlet camshaft position monitoring, would this sensor resolve that?
Did it ever work? If u tried lmk
is it the same part for both intake and exhaust?
Yes
I have a question, can you help me? Do you have to drain the engine oil to change that part? Or can it be changed without having to change the oil?
You can do it without changing the oil!
Can you link the required tools please? I need to have this done and I’m not sure where to get the socket. Thank you in advance.

I have a 2013 238i xdrive is the camshaft positioning sensor located at the same place as the one you showing in the video ?
TBH I never worked on one so I don’t know I didn’t even know a 238i was a thing lol!
Sorry I meant 328i**
I have a 2013 328i and the camshaft position sensor is a pain in the butt to remove. No room At all on the intake side.
Where do I get that e8 tool from
I got mine from Harbor freight! Both the tool and ratchet
So I’m aware that there are two sensors. One intake and one exhaust. Are they the same sensor? I can buy two of them and install or is one specific for intake and one for exhaust
same part number
in the middle of trouble shooting a few codes rn
My car said engine malfunction power reduced and I thought it was my charge pipe but I put the code reader and it says the camshaft sensor hopefully it fixes it
Should fix it!
@@tunerworld first thing ima do tomorrow morning after that on to charge pipe upgrade with BOV
Hey bro my 09 E90 as well is saying engine malfunction power reduced I thought it was the charge pipe but it looks good did the camshaft sensor fix it ? Please reply thank you 🙏
@@702lvbully3 what code is it throwing when you scan it?
@@osamadavid9727 did fixing the camshaft sensor work for you? I have a 09 535i that’s giving me the same engine malfunction! Reduced power. Scanned it and it gave me the code P0340
Was that the exhaust cam sensor or intake cam sensor
Lshiftstraley Exhaust!
@@tunerworld is the intake just as easy?
Lshiftstraley I couldn’t answer that as I’ve never done the intake one, but I’m sure it’s just as easy! I’m sure it’s at around the same spot
Doesn’t the n54 have 2 camshaft sensors ?
Yunior Roman Yep! This video shows how to do the exhaust one
What are the symptoms of one that could be failing?
Car will throw a code for it and won’t feel right. The n54 should feel powerful and torquey from the factory. This caused the car to run real bad and once we replaced it, the car felt alive again!
@@tunerworld thanks for the quick reply
I have p054b and p13c9. What could it be
i have same problem where you able to find out what the problem was for the p054b code please and thank you
@@yoboiyoyo6564 a couple blown fuses
How many you have to change?
Ghost Skull this one worked fine! Car drove much better after. First car I’ve ever done it on.
@@tunerworld I think he mean't how many camshaft sensor is there, It's only one to answer that question and good video bro straight to the point!
@@berraco8627 ahh that makes sense haha. Thanks man appreciate it!
Would this cause codes 2a98 2a99?
Did you figure this out? I have 2a99
@@coltondery3526 no bro my issue is the cam ledges
Did this fix 2a98 for anyone
It did for us lol!
I bet you this why my engine malfunction light pop up when I accelerate hard
I'm having the same exact symptom, do you have an update? Thx!
