I worked with a guy who was a retired full bird colonel from the US Air Force. He pretty much flew all the century fighters including the F4, I once asked him, what was the best physical sensation you ever had in an aircraft, he replied, 400kts on the deck in the F4 always felt pretty good. Kudos to the Japanese for keeping these grand birds flying.

@@fightingfalcon1986 Excellent point. The Phantom was conceived for the Navy as a fleet defense A/C. High speed, crazy rate of climb, decent range, great fire control radar and stand off capabilities. It was the forerunner of the F-14 & F-15. The fact that it performed "air to mud" as well as it did is a testament to its' versatility.

Amazing to seeing these beautiful old war-birds flying over half a century after their design was first developed. Beautiful cinematography and editing by the 1-300 by the way and also a great selection of music for this video.

as a aviation fan (esp. of the phantoms ) I'm glad to see these great birds in the air where they belong, instead of being hanger queens, ( even if they're wearing meatballs instead of stars and bars). awesome work.

Japanese F-4EJ (2 squadrons) will be replaced with F-35A within a few years. (There is also one squadron of RF-4E ). In 2018, we can see F-4EJ/RF-4E at Hyakuri Base ( Ibaraki Airport) which is 2 hours away from Tokyo. In Japan, we can take pictures of fighter aircraft without being arrested.

Proof positive on what has always been said about the F-4......put a big enough engine on a barn and you can get it to fly...beautiful beautiful bird...first time I saw an F-4 on after-burner was at Danang waiting for a UH-34 to take me out to the Iwo Jima to join up with SLF-Alpha and 2/4 3rd Div in ops off the Quaviet...one impressive bird when it goes to after-burners....puts a lot of faith in American airpower...

During the Vietnam conflict, my Dad was an engine mechanic with an F-4 squadron based in Thailand. He died August 5, 2019, and had an Air Force honor guard at his funeral. RIP Dad.

Awesome video....Great tribute to the Phantom...I have always loved the F-4 since I was young and would see them fly everyday at the AFB in my town back in the day. It is going to be a sad day when the last Phantom in service somewhere in the world makes its last flight....

It is nice to see these old birds still flying today. I like those heavy clumsy looking antiques but they still won't take the spot of my favourite aircraft ever. The old twin engined pby's are still the most beautiful and gracefull birds out there ^^.

These vids bring so much beauty and emotion. I am so grateful for all the video of these majestic old fighters still in their prime, fit and mission capable. In a few short years they will no longer be in active service anywhere, but we will have vids like these to help us remember them at their best.

When I was in the USAF in the 70s I was an avionics instrument tech on F 4C,D,E, and F models. Also worked on F 105F and g models. You had to be a sports car mechanic to work on the F4.

Nothing like the whine of the J-79 and the thunder of the Phantom. These jets saved the bacon in '72.
