    Train ride through the Swiss Alps from Lucerne to Interlaken, via the Brunig Pass and Lake Brienz, brings us into the heart of Switzerland. The scenery unfolds as we travel along in Swiss rail comfort, enjoying views of majestic mountains and tranquil lakes, framed by green rolling hills dotted with chalets and contented cows.

    I Love Switzerland the Swiss and the beautiful country side. I Studied, Loved and Lived in Zurich in my late 20's, if you are lucky enough to visit Zurich have a pint for me at the Oliver Twist, affectionately known as the Liver Twist by expats or just the Twist. Liver and onions are good if Bruno is still in the kitchen and the Guinness is poured correctly if Shawn is still behind the bar. Darts in the corner and a cosy patio welcome you on warm summer nights.
    Enjoy Switzerland, you will Love it!

    Just got back from Switzerland. A big thank you for sharing such detailed and wonderful videos. I watched all the videos before our trip and got wonderful tips and inputs. Did three hikes suggested by you. 1. Murren to Gimmewald 2. KS to Wengenalp. 3. Gandria to Lugano. Throughly enjoyed. Thanks once again.

    Hi Dennis,
    Thanks for the great video, today is the second time I have watched it through. The reason being is that I am travelling there on my own in October 2019. Firstly, I think this will be a good time to go, do you feel the same? I am going as I fell in love with Lucerne when I visited there on New Years Eve 2017 but only stayed a day and half as I was on a tour at the time. I want to go back to really visit the country and take advantage of all of the magnificent train rides, not that I am a train nut but it just looks so fantastic and easy to do. My second question is, I intend to stay for 2 weeks, do you think that time will be enough to do all or most of the things you have outlined in this video? Based on your video I will making Lucerne, Interlaken & Zamart my three bases towns.
    Thanks again for this very very informative video it is the best information I have been able to gather from once source since I commenced my research a month ago.
    Regards

      Hi Peter, glad I could be helpful in planning your trip. October should be very nice, but if there is early snowfall some of the lower trails might be closed for hiking, so try and get to Zermatt as soon as possible.

    • @denniscallan
      @denniscallan  Před 10 lety +1

      wow you are very observant, yes the train does pull into that station then reverse direction while continuing along on the journey to Interlaken.

    Would you please tell me the best way to make the reservations ahead of time? I found on GoEuro the train routes but (1) I am unsure which station in Lucerne from which to depart and (2) I am unsure if all of the non-stop routes to Interlaken go through the Bruing Pass.

    • @denniscallan
      @denniscallan  Před 5 lety

      Lucerne has only one station, with easy route through the Brunig Pass to Interlaken. Consult raileurope website or sbb.ch for routes and tickets.

    • @denniscallan
      @denniscallan  Před 7 lety +1

      This was in late May, the perfect time to visit Switzerland, when it is not yet crowded, with enough snow melted from the trails that they are clear for walking, and nice temperatures all around. Any time in summer is the next-best, just go when you can.

      @denniscallan  Před 7 lety +1

      You will definitely see snow on the mountains -- all year round, because they are glaciers. You can walk in the snow also on many peaks, like Jungfrau and Shilthorn, Tilis, Gornergracht, Kleine Matterhorn, easily reached by cable car.
