I found the recipe, here are the ingredients and measurements.
350 grams plain flour, plus extra for dusting
150 grams wholemeal flour
1½ teaspoons bicarbonate of soda
1 teaspoon table salt
1 teaspoon caster sugar
450 millilitres buttermilk
Preheat oven to 200° C or 395° F
Bake for 30-35 min or until golden brown
It should sound hollow when you tap on the loaf.
Terence Vasquez thanks a lot!
many thanks Terence
Terence Vasquez ayyyy
Don't forget 2 gallons of olive oil
How many cups of flour and buttermilk?
next time can you please zoom in so far so I can see the atoms in the air pls
I died laughing at this. You beautifully expressed our observation
No, it’s cool to have no one have any idea what you’re doing. No measurement, can’t see what he’s doing...he’s the coolest.
Bravo 👏 😂👏😂👏😂
Technically he did, Galko-chan
Its so they can just use his hand double! So sneaky
Finally Gordon Ramsay decided to make a short recipe clip that doesn't make you feel dizzy!
Ingredients
350g plain flour, plus extra for dusting
150g wholemeal flour
1½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
1 tsp table salt
1 tsp caster sugar
450ml buttermilk
200°C
For all those wondering, I keep reading the comments and everyone keeps asking
the temperature is a joke, i just try with my oven and see what's best, cause it does not give the temp
Soda bread holds a special place in my heart-- it was the first thing I made on my own that wasn't scrambled eggs or pancakes, when I was about 11. The two loaves that the recipe made were both eaten up by my family by the next morning.
I love Gordon Ramsay’s cooking it’s so no nonsense simple to follow I think he’s a terrific chef 👩🍳
Good Guy Gordon Ramsey, He´s the best chef in the world and still gives free lessons for everybody!
yeah... free lessons... because youtube videos with ads are not profitable ;)
Danilo Riffo ^ dis guy right here.
AdBlock. And it´s only profitable with the right amount of subscribers and views. But believe me, this guy doesn´t give a fuck about the money he earns from youtube, it´s nothing to him.
If you don't have buttermilk and baking powder so you're stuck with baking soda, add in either a bit of vinegar or lemon juice. The reason recipe calls for buttermilk is bc it contains lactic acid which reacts with sodium bicarbonate to release CO2 which is how you get that airy crumb without yeast fermentation. You get the same effect with a little bit of vinegar (acetic acid), lemon juice (citric acid), cream of tartar (potassium bitartrate), etc. If it tastes sour it'll work...
Add a small tablespoon of salt to the recipe, and serve it with salted butter and smoked salmon. That's the irish way of making it, and it's bloody lovely. Goes awesomely with soup, stew or chowder.
I just tried making this. It turned out really well and it tastes fantastic! Thank you so much.
Baked it several times. Always good. Prefer to make 2 smaller breads based below measurements and add some seeds-mix. Thanks for the recipe. One of my all-time-favorites. BRGRDS from Northern Germany 👨🍳
i have never had a recipe fail me like that in my entire life. did everything according to recipe and ended up with one bowl of fckn super glue. desaster
Just pour it on a baking paper and bake it anyway. It will be flat as f , but it will still taste good.
Just be careful not to burn it.
"Simple Soda Bread"
_"So is it like bread and Sprite?"_
You should include ingrediants/measurements in the description..
No wounder indeed
IM SO HAPPY THAT CHEF RAMSAY IS MAKING SO MANY CZcams COOKING VIDEOS WOWW
I was really needing quantity's, 2 minutes later i have your Ebooks. dadaa. seeding back now :) gotta spread the love.
yea but that doesn't help gordon now does it. buy the real book, stop seeding it
Gordon Ramsey's video are direct and to the point. No ego trips, no long stories. They are among the best cooking tutorials online.
yeah.. except from the fact that this bread recipe and the way gordon baked it is absolutely terrible. This is NOT how you bake a good bread.
Chef Ramsay: "Stop! Everyone, stop! Why are you asking me about the fuckin' measurement and the recipe? Fu*k me. What the hell you guys are thinking? Everything is in my fuckin' cookbook. Get out and go to the fuckin' bookstore and buy them. Get out!!! Fu*k off! Omg..."
I know this is old but I watched him a lot and what you wrote is so him from the shows I have seen. I mean he is great, would love to meet him but your response had me LMAO so hard, i am hurting. Thanks.
How the hell am I supposed to make this? We need some quantities in the description.
You are the masta of your bread with soda ! Am I doing it right chef John ?

Aymaan Makhlooq Thanks!
bahlsen03 You are the Yoda of your bread with soda.
***** That's better.
I watch "Hell's Kitchen" all the time, I LOVE YOU Gordon!!
chemically speaking could you substitute buttermilk with some other acid to activate the bicarb then use something else to fill in for the missing liquid (regular milk/water)?
Simple breads, biscuits, dumplings and flat breads are a wonderful staple in our arsenal Chef!
thank God there are those that care about baking!
Love to try the recipe but how much of each ingredient do you use?
***** What's caster sugar?
TheCoolProfessor
This is an incredibly late reply, but maybe it will help other people that have the same question. Caster sugar is incredibly fine sugar, what people most likely have is granulated, caster sugar is not powdered sugar, it is just really fine grains. I believe you can grind granulated sugar to make or you could just buy it.
Yuri Lewd Np. Ty for the info. :)
Muy buenas recetas chef. Nos gusta tu manera de explicar las cosas con esa energia que nunca parece que se le acabe. Me encata pesadilla en la cocina. Un saludo, chef
Sorry but i don't trust ANY bread recipe where they don't cut and show the middle.
Have to agree with you, disappointed we didn't get to see the crumb.
Yea, don't trust the man who has 14 Michelin stars, I mean what the hell does he know?
amen!
Callum King
it's a personal choice, not trusting him on this one doesn't make them wrong!
In his book, there is:)
THANK YOU GORDON, I NEED TO MAKE SOME FOR SCHOOL AND THE METHOD SHEET DOESN'T EXPLAIN IT WELL ENOUGH 🙏
Verry interesting recipie!
one day i'll know how much flour to put in the bolw
your awsome
Love these videos, but are we ever going to get exact measurements?
google
Nathan1el What's the point of a recipe video if you have to search the internet after watching it to find out how to make it...
Jack Hapgood hiya, i think these videos are for people with a bit of experience in the kitchen, like myself i can measure with my eyes out of experience and i think this is what these short clips are about.
HalconTV But would it kill Ramsay to say the temp one should cook it...takes half a second.
Exact measurements aren't as important as you think. But anyway, you can find many of the recipes online on Channel 4's homepage:
scrapbook.channel4.com/programmes/gordon-ramsays-ultimate-cookery-course
The instructions are essensially:
"put ingredients together and food"
Where can I buy your DVD's???
Thank you Sir Ramsay.
Yay😃for soda bread! Got a goOd grip on the simple life...haven't we?
Great video Gordan :)
How to make buttermilk??
Is it with curd/yogurt and water? Or is it with milk and vinegar??
got the recipe for this bread?
TQVM
interesting stuff
That moment when he calls is fool proof and I've failed to successfully make it 3 times :(
I don't know what kind of recipe you are working with but choose one that incorporates butter. While cold, cut the butter into tiny cubes and spread them around your dry ingredients. Use your fingers and work the butter in by making fists inside the mixture until the whole thing takes on a meal like texture. Then add the buttermilk. From then on it's like any other soda bread.
"Life Is Just A Bowl Of Cherries? Huh..with soda bread.too!..chuckle..
HI! I really enjoyed this bread with my favorite..Jelly! Oh!! it was so good....and a small portion was all that I needed. Thanks,
Awesome!! YR MY IDOL!!!
Its cooking as i type. Fingers crossed
Yummy
очень аппетитно по домашнему
Is the buttermilk necessary?
I feel so in tune with my inner Gordon Ramsey while eating my Walmart pita bread dusted to refinery with flour.
Edit: Help, I can’t tell if I’ve lost my second piece of pita bread, or ate it.
Gordon this is off topic but do you know where a home maker can get a white bread improver for that store self crumb ? King Arthur flour does not carry one, I was told only commercial bakers can get it?
why would you need it
What gives you the idea you'll get a response from G.R. lol!
no recipe?
0:15
Soda. Bread. Done.
No ingredient amounts in description or anywhere else guess I'll just go by eye since I can count each grain of flower with that zoom.
Yeah right! great recipes but QUANTITIES please ! ;-)
What are the measurements of your ingredients?
hi chef! i was wondering if u can make macarons, please i want to see you make it
That's NOT bread!! That's BISQUICK!!! LMAO
I made this recipe but since he didn't put the measurements I made my own. hopefully this works
It's been 4 years so...how did the bread come out?
@@aleafff it definitely looked like bread but I definitely had one of the measurements off. It tasted slightly off but never figured out what was wrong
Well there's a lot of recipe with specific measurement from yt, it's quite a long time so I guess u know how to make bread now😂
@@aleafff I actually never made bread again
i thought gankplank ate oranges
Mortelisable lmao xD
He does
Didn't come out for the first time. Mind measuring buttermilk.
looks rock hard
Can use yogurt instead of buttermilk
mr. Ramsay, I started baking because of you, because I had a dream where I was holding your foot (Hungarian saying for luck: to grab the foot of God :) ) and you were less foul mouthed in the dream than me. So I said that must meant I had it (cooking and baking) and I set off. Now I make beautiful sourdough bread and I think this bread in the recipe could do with a bit more kneading and shaping. :) But you are my inspiration nevertheless. :)
Making this at school next week
Sound nice
Did anybody try this recipe and get really sticky dough? Not sure if I'm doing this right, but too afraid to over knead it or add more flour. Tips? Thoughts?
One of my culinary hero's bar none! Respect!
Were I can get the recipe?
Very good bread and i found another at (A COOKBOOK COLLECTOR)
Marathon Watching 3/16/23 More videos like this one. Very helpful. 🎉🎉🎉😅😅😅
Traditional soda bread never had a recipe it was made by eye starting with equal parts of the two flours, its simple enough that anyone with some bread making experience will produce it properly every time.
OH, I have an idea..Soda Bread cookies... MMMM! chuckle.....
This is the Food Department...
Soda bread is good in the morning toasted... Honestly...
i like
How much flour to add, nothing mentioned.
There's no yeast used in the video, my culinary teacher said that "you can't call it bread unless you add yeast instead baking soda" . So basically is it still a bread or no? I'm a bit confused here . Sorry if my english is bad
tell your culinary teacher that gordon ramsay calls it bread and if they don't agree then for them to take it up with him, your teacher will either shut up or act real big.
There is active yeast in the flour and culture in the buttermilk. Although this obviously is not a long fermented bread recipe it will have some rise during the bake.
Soda Bread is a tradition in Ireland. There is no specific definition of bread that it must have yeast.
You haven't said what temperature for the oven
BREAD MADE OF SODA !!!
I can't find buttermilk at any store, so what can I do?
Get some normal milk and add Lemon juice to it - that works just as well.
I have this foreign urge to do Yoga while watching Gordon's cooking videos...
not sure why, but well *shrugs* I'm open for everything
Deadpool Obsessed vjgh
0:07 Me
no buttermilk in asia. oh well not in my hometown!
You can add 1tbsp lemon juice or white vinegar to a cup of milk to make a substitute. It's not completely the same, but it's how I make my soda bread.
Devin McDowell It is better to add the acid after the milk than with the milk... we're not making cheese here ;)
have to be careful when adding acids to milk. It tends to separate easily.
I added acid to this and the end result was the trippiest breakfast I have ever had.
So how much is most?
The first time I tried to make Irish Soda bread I forgot the wholemeal flour. It wasn't Ramsay's recipe, but they're all pretty much the same...Needless to say I had this soupy mess and it wasn't until later that I realized my mistake.
Get 450 mls and pour most of it in?
No sugar and deeper cuts
some flour some this and that,DONE! just that easy,
At what temperture
mmmmm! Can you eat it with jelly?mmmm,! snap, crackle, pop! smack, smack...chuckle, chuckle...can you use baking powder to replace the soda...chuckle..I will not give into "Fat Machinery"! away....
What is this bloody goo Ramsey???
At least ya didnt use plaster of paris as it was a custom by the London Foggers back then...Chef i bet your bread tastes divine...
0:08 salt but you forgot the fucking pepper!
dont put pepper in bread you psycho
Bon appetit...
Doesn't British people use Bakers yeast?
Nobody uses yeast in soda bread! Bar i found one recipe on CZcams where she uses cheese & yeast also (1/4) in her soda bread & lets the whole machine do it which is great, if a little heavy on the calories due to the cheese fat & protein
What does this bread taste like?
dannyboy12357 Sour. Not being a smart arse, it really tastes sour. I've only had it once, but the buttermilk combined with the ammonia from the baking soda makes it taste like it's going off. I'm not a fan, much prefer the italian and german breads.
"First up, measure out your dry ingredients"
Yeah, just measure em out. Put in as much shit as you want in there, as long as it's "measured out" to your liking.
Nice recipe d-bag.
Measurements?
I've never had this kind of bread - does anyone know how healthy it is? Buttermilk, doesen't really sound too healthy..
Buttermilk actually isn't that bad for you. Buttermilk the liquid that is rendered AFTER the butter has been taken out, so it actually doesn't have much fat. This recipe is high in carbohydrates, but it's BREAD! Here you get the added benefit of knowing exactly what's been put into it, so I imagine it's quite a bit healthier than all the bread you can get at the super market.
Chantalle Draycott
The ironic thing is, that buttermilk looks and feels like it is creamier and more fatty.
lol I literally thought he was making a bread out of soda drinks...
Haha me too
Only Americans call fizzy drinks "soda"
I am not sure about all of the ingredients or the measurements. I have listened several times.
350g plain flour, plus extra for dusting
150g wholemeal flour
1½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
1 tsp table salt
1 tsp caster sugar
450ml buttermilk
YO WHERE IS THE FANTA!
no barley or oatmeal?
And still, no oven tenperature information
To everyone who sees this comment, keep pushing in life and never give up. Can't wait to see you successful one day and May God bless you!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
