      I've got both blf gt and gt 70.2.
      I have to say the 70 performs much more like a searchlight or vehicle mounted spotlight. The original GT feels like your putting someone with a high power C8 500 meters that-a-way and is clearly the longer thrower, but the 70 feels more impressive. Turbo is also perfect on the 70, gets warm quick, but puts thermal paths to work, so haven't yet had it step down on me in use.

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 Před 5 lety

      It helps to integrate the beam of light. The whole point of an integrating sphere is to take all of the light and group it together evenly so that it can be properly measured. Using multiple diffusers helps to create a much more even beam of light going to the sensor. The last thing you want is a narrow beam light creating an artificially high lumen measurement compared to a wide beam light. We are measuring lumens, not distance. I hope that makes sense.

    Bright, yeah! But I dont see a tight focused beam .....just a big , broad blob of light throwing at a distance that's unfocused and blurred in the distance. Maybe it's the temperature, the number of cree's or broadness of the beam, but I rather it had a more narrow and focused structure that was channeled at a very long distance.

    • @TerryWhite001
      @TerryWhite001 Před 5 lety

      They were not wanting a tight focused beam. Imalent wanted competitive distance with the added bonus of lighting up a much larger area.
      I think unfocused may be relative in a photo or video but, if you see it live with just the light and your eyes it does not look that way at all. It gives you a much more wide area of light a very long distance. In a search and rescue situation I would rather have the added width (or spill). It makes it much easier to locate what you may be looking for... JMO

    Question... Have you had a chance to calculate throw distance. When my tube came up short on overall output I right away took 5 and 10 meter lux readings and odd thing is throw calculated out to a fair bit farther than Imalent rates.

    out of the all Imalent flashlight i have tested i think DT70 is the best one. onlything its really lacking is a hold to place a lanyard.
    Inbuild display to show battery voltage and lumen level (1 button to change steps, 1 to show voltage info and change to strobe and turbo). if you turn on and off it stays on the same lumen level.
    The spread is amazing since it does not have to bright spot in the middle yet can reach very long distance.
    All the newer once does not show the lumens nor the voltage just green or red also their magnetic charging aint really good it falls off quietly easy and the 2 poles is way to easy to make contact with since it attaches to everything so you need to be careful where you place your charger because both poles are standing out and will both be connected to a flat surface.
    Magnetic charging rocks when its done right but they havent especially on their HR70 thats a damn joke since the charger just falloff by the weight of the cable or tension when you place the light on the table.

      Lumens are very difficult to measure accurately. The average person does not have access to a $20,000 integrating sphere. Flashlight hobbiests try to do their best to measure accurately, but we can only get so close. Based on measurements of a single xhp35-HI, I think 15 to 16,000 Lumen is about accurate.

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 Před 5 lety +1

      Also keep in mind that some manufacturers will outright lie about a lights lumen output. Whereas other companies may try to be more accurate, but still be off a little. Other companies may measure the lumens at turn on while others may measure after 30 seconds. Still others may measure the raw LEDs, without the reflector and lens, which always produces higher readings. So you see why no one should blindly believe factory ratings.

      Yes, 20,000 lumen is just not realistic. That would be 2,222 lumen each and it's not possible. The average xhp35-HI driven hard, like 2.5A each, is closer to 1,800 lumen. That times 9 will give you about 16,200 lumen. This was my upper limit for this light before it even came out. So I think your measured 15K-16K lumen is pretty darn accurate.

    Imalent is WAY over priced not to mention way over rated. I bought the DN35 and 70 during a group buy and it looks like they still make shitty lights . Gave one away and the other one tried stopping a 12 gauge slug but did not fare to well lol. There switches suck, can't find them in the dark for anything. The one I gave away, My friend was like wow bright light when you can find the switch to turn it on which takes another flashlight. Awesome video as always Matt.

    Matt Smith: How do you like the R90C? I just purchased one last night from Imalent on their Amazon store, which they gave me a huge discount, which when I asked other companies, they said I don't know about that, that's a huge discount, we can't offer that much of a discount, but we can give you a 5% discount.....I said you gotta be freaking kidding me, only 5%, I said I won't be buying from your company, I'll keep buying from Imalent! Those other companies are cheapskates! Who do you think is the biggest and best flashlight company out there?

      Pretty sure the lumens on the package is counted by the specs of the led light they order not the actual output sadly (assume most brands does the same)

    When I hear 15000 lumens and the word thrower in one sentence, I expect at least 900 yards of throw and not only 900 feet. That's a flood light.

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 Před 5 lety +1

      It's rated at 1679 meters. So even if the specs are slightly inflated, it should still be well over 900 meters.

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 Před 5 lety

      @@oldineamiller9007 - Okay, I did some digging and someone I know and trust has measured the throw for the R90C at a bit over the rated spec. They measured 1876 meters throw. This is ANSI-FL1 spec which means the distance where the light outputs drops to 1/4 lux. So although the real usable distance may only be 1/3 of that, it's still allows you to compare one light to another. For a light that measures 1800 meters I would say 600 meters should be bright and usable.
