  • Hello guys! Again with a beautiful Alfa Romeo 164 V6 Turbo "Busso". This time it starts badly and has little or no resistance to idling! Step by step here we will see what really happens! A car that has been parked for several years and has "changed everything" and is still not good. After several workshops and many towing miles, it reached me. With calm and a few more gray hairs, I did it!

    ok. let's start.
    1. then i dont hear any cough from your engine after first seconds, i thought it should be fuel pressure. ok, its good that you managed to find this problem.
    2. some time ago we were trying to solve the problem with low power on 2.0 v6 tb. and i remember from docs, that fuel pressure should be 4.0 bar, not 3.2 like on n/a 164s. so it still can be wrong pressure regulator, from n/a car. so, please check the part number on it.
    3. fuel pressure drops immediately after the engine was shut down, there is still a leakage somethere.
    4. you still can check that your fuel delivery is goog without any pressure gauge - just detach fuel hose after fuel regulator and attach other hose to any bottle. if there any fuel after crank, it means, that pressure is ok. but you can also check the amount of fuel in litres/minute delivered to your bottle after pressure regulator. it's table data for every fuel pump. i dont remember exactly for turbo version, but for n/a 3.0 i beleave its something about 120 l/h, so 2l/min should be delivered to your bottle ;)

Hello. Thanks for watching. With the hose detached the flow was correct. It was when it was connected that the pressure was low.
Thank you very much for your information. Have a great weekend

I was surprised that you did not suspect the fuel system more along the way, as it was not really running at all at low revs, but great that you finally got it up and running again :)

Once I was about to buy an Alfa Romeo, It was model 156, black with red leather upholstery and despite beind 4 years old, it shined like new. But when I pulled the seat belt out of the holder far enough, it was stained with what could have been blood or perhaps the previous driver's leaking brain. It's a shame, the car was beautiful and obviously pretty well restored, nevertheless I had to pass on it.
Just kidding, in reality I was shoked and run out of that garage as fast as I could.
Thank you for your video, it revived my only experience with the brand. I wish you and your viewers only good moments with their Alfas.

@alfaromeonoproblem Bruno, you are wrong. It was 2 valves: 1 on fuel pump, which allows fuel flow from the pump to pressure regulator and not in another direction. 2 - pressure regulator itself. which opens ONLY when fuel pressure exceeds 3.2(or 4bar, it depends on the pressure regulator model). And you with short rubber hoses and clamps introduces 3rd (at least) valve, wich opens after 1 bar and leaks fuel into the tank)) Since this hole is small, fuel flows out slowly, as shown by the pressure gauge arrow... And one moment. No matter what kind of rubber hoses I put there, they last from 2 to 12 months. The issue was resolved only by installing plastic ones.
