- Flybe trip report onboard one of their Bombardier Dash 8 turboprops from Belfast to East Midlands airport.
A very comfortable flight onboard the Flybe Dash 8 from Belfast in Northern Ireland to East Midlands. The Dash 8 was really comfortable. Very nice legroom and nice crew. Perhaps the only con was the noise that all Bombardier Dash 8 produce, especially during the climb stage.
However, the views of the landing gear on this Dash 8 compensated all other possible cons! The flight from Belfast to East Midlands was quite short. Basically was just about crossing the Irish sea. A short and enjoyable flight on the Bombardier Dash 8, that has the title of the fastest turboprop.

I miss it so much 15:49 The stripy walkway, 15:59 The rattly luggage conveyor,
16:04 I even remember the doors, 16:09 The slow doors I would always walk into and then think I'm trapped halfway through 😭
And the concrete cubes that I would always sit on 16:36!
One of the best thing driving along the M1 south of Nottingham is when a plane come onto land just infront of you. The planes are so low you see them in great detail

I have been on both the ATR-72 and Dash 8-Q400. The ATR was a short hop operated by Norra (Finnair) between Helsinki and Tallinn and the Dash 8-Q400 by airBaltic between Tallinn and Riga.
I am 2 meters tall, so both planes were really cramped for me since there is no emergency exit row. But out of the 2, the ATR was the worst when it comes to legroom. Once i landed my leg was sleeping. On the Dash 8 i sat more comfortable and it was more bearable to sit in for a longer period of time.
Well, if I remember well, on the ATR 72 you have an emergency row in the front! :)
But yep, as you say, these models aren't the best for tall people like you =/

@@OnBoardHD It did. I believe i was in the ATR 72-600, but it could also have been the 500 variant. When i tried to make a booking though and was taking a look at the seat map, it did not show "extra legroom" seats. All were regular. The front row was however 30 euros more expensive than a regular seat. Which is outragous for a flight which only takes 13 minutes if the wind blows in the right direction.
Absolutely. Extreme price. But that was the extra legroom row 😅👍

El único inconveniente de estos aviones es el ruido que tienen dentro de cabina.
En los vídeos puede parecer que son silenciosos, pero nada más lejos de realidad. Hacen tanto ruido que saturan los micrófonos de la cámara y parece que hay poco ruido jaja

Vole en un Dash 8 en Febrero de este año desde Londres a Edimburgo , me parecio fantastico la tripulacion muy agradable y el vuelo muy bueno .
Para vuelo cortos de hasta 1 hora me parece un muy buen avión. A partir de ese tiempo... uff! la verdad es que el ruido de los motores empieza a molestar! jeje

nice flight Lucas onboard this turboprop.I have flown with Olympic's Dashs and ATRs but to tell you the truth I can't find a big difference between these two types.Maybe ATR is more quiet than the Dash.Cool report my friend

Yep, both airplanes are really noisy! I think it's almost the only bad aspect of them. Usually, these planes have comfortable seat configurations.

La librea violeta de Flybe me parece espectacular. De las libreas más bonitas de Europa, sin lugar a dudas. Lejos del clásico blanco y cola de color que nos tienen acostumbrados por Europa.

Please do more exciting airlines outside Europe and I enjoyed this report. I never got to take a plane like this Dash 8 with fans instead of jet engines.Oh, how long was the trip BTW? Thank you, you made me a fan.
Well, the aim of my videos is to be as neutral as possible, just showing the trip itself to the viewers, so you are the ones able to make an opinion from the trip, the airline, the airports... I have my own opinion, but I only tell them when it's extremely good (like with Jet2, for example) or extremely bad (like my recent experience on the Billi terminal, in Bordeaux).

Me ha parecido un vuelo corto, pero ha merecido la pena por la novedad de estos aviones que me gustan en ellos está la esencia de volar hasta que llegaron los motores a reacción la hélice era la dueña de los aires. Casi que te mojas por grabar al salir en el exterior del avión. Un cordial saludo y que próxima sorpresa nos aguarda ???

@@OnBoardHD eso me parecía a mi pero que bueno que lo confirmaste. Una pregunta: en el tiempo que llevas viajando cuantos casos has podido ver de personas que se marean en el vuelo? Aquellos que dicen que viajar en un avión muy pequeño les molesta y se comienzan a sentir mal. Te lo digo por mi madre que en aviones pequeños la pasa muy mal pero en los grandes viaja súper bien.
Pues la verdad es que he conocido poca gente que se maree en avion. Bastantes con miedo a volar, pero eso es todo.
Hay algunas pastillas que ayudan a no marearse en la farmacia. NO son tranquilizantes ni nada. Así que pueden ayudar.
I wouldn't say better or worse than the ATR, just different. We are very used to fly with the ATR here in the Canaries (3 airlines: Binter, Canary Fly and Air Europa Express) and the planes are fine and confortable, as it is the Dash 8, which we get to see with SATA Azores that connects Gran Canaria with Ponta Delgada (Açores).

I find that Flybe seems to be the most delayed airline on CZcams but that might just me me
Hahah Well, I really can't make an opinion on this, as I've just flown with them twice. However, many people told me in the comments about their legendary delays! :D
Absolutely. These Dash-8s have reliability issues. There have also been a couple of cases where the nosegear collapsed on landing ... the incident at Schiphol received the most publicity.
Yep, I've read about it. However I wonder if it's a trend in all Dash 8 operators? Do you anything about it?
Alex McWhirter good to know and come to think if it all my flights with Flybe have been delayed due to technical faults. Longest was round about 4 hours

Me parecen bastante interesante tus vuelos en Dash 8. La calidad de tus vídeos es ciertamente fantástica 😃 En general no me gusta subir en aviones con hélice porque se notan bastante las vibraciones por no hablar de la circunstancia cuando hay turbulencias 🤮 (exactamente así fue mi viaje en Dash 8 con LOT 😒). Además me parecen bastante ruidosos los motores y la cabina, aunque es espaciosa, me da claustrofobia si tuviese que hacer un viaje más que 2h en cuyo maldito avión 😵
Qué tal de va por la compañía más favorita del mundo? 😝 He oído que moverán a los pilotos de algunas bases (MAD entre ellas) durante el invierno a trabajar en Buzz o Lauda, no? 🧐 Sinceramente espero que eso no te causará inconveniencias... 😅

El único problema que les veo a los turbohélices (tanto ATR como Dash8) es el ruido que hacen. Es exageradamente grande, especialmente durante el ascenso.

That slogan "Faster than road or rail" is regularly criticised by passengers because these Dash-8s can suffer from technical issues which means delays/cancellations. Note that the new Flybe livery does not carry the slogan ... however that "new" livery may be changed again as Flybe's new owners want to rebrand the airline.
Well, I think it's a very good slogan if you can honour it! hehe
Do you know if Virgin wants to put their livery on these planes? I think Flybe is enough valuable brand to nor use it...

How does the comfort of these turboprops compare with jets like Embraer or Airbus A220 for example? Are they more subject to rough weather for example? Thanks!
Mark Holland I tried one a few weeks ago and I was really surprised at the comfort and speed of them!
Well, while the cabins are usually really comfortable, both the Dash8 and the ATR have the noise problem: they are really noisy, so for flights of more than 1h... uff maybe I would recommend other models. :)
@@OnBoardHD I find from plane to plane it varies. Last time I took a dash 8 was to go to France last year (Birmingham to Brest on Flybe 2, about a 1 hour 10 minute flight) and the plane was much noisier on the flight back than there, I was in the same seat and everything
I went on the same flight as this last summer, and this was really interesting to watch. How was the landing, I think I noticed a bit of bounce?

@@OnBoardHD yep! I was sitting at a window seat beside engine 1, and I could see that Flybe has a single engine taxi procedure!
Yep, even airlines with A320 and B737 have them. You can save up to 100kg on a long taxi. That multiplied by 6-8 flights per day, multiplied by 365 days, multiplied by the number of planes in the fleet... you get a lot of tons of fuel that you save. 😊
@@OnBoardHD Do you know if easyJet has a single engine taxi? And i wonder if pilots have to counteract the torque generated by only having one engine running. I recently heard about a semi-automated vehicle which towed an aircraft to the runway, which meant it could keep all of it's engines shut down until it reached the runway. the only time I can't see this working is when the APU isn't working!
These planes are part of my childhood, and they land with a bit of a thud, and decelerate very fast, you feel yourself thrown forward. If you drop something like a bottle at the back, it will roll all the way to the front and I've seen it happen. I miss these, I used to take them every year between Southampton and Brest to visit my family
En mi opinión , me gusta mucho más ATR, de echo, mi avión favorito es el ATR 72 de CanaryFly, una aerolínea de mi tierra
Estuve a punto de volar unas cuantas veces con Canaryfly! jeje Pero al final no pudo ser. Espero poder volver pronto por Canarias y aprovechar para volar tanto con Canaryfly como con Binter!Y hacer vídeos, claro!

Pues lo he dicho bastantes veces, el aeropuerto que me parece más bonito es la parte central de la terminal de Budapest. Aparece en muchos vídeos (y también en el vídeo que vendrá este sábado, previsiblemente). Me parece una terminal preciosa.

@@joe755 Madeira es uno de los aeropuertos que tenía marcados como objetivo para este año. Por ahora no ha salido ninguna oportunidad. A ver si ahora que termina la temporada de verano aparece alguna buena oferta :)
Vole con uno de estos de Mykonos a Atenas compañia Olympic Air y un vuelo horrible, el avion parecia un balancín turbulencias a punta pala y un aterrizaje mas que fuerte, la gente del avion estaba gritando y rezando sinceramente no pensaba que aterrizáriamos. Y eso que me encantan los aviones y estoy estudiando pa piloto, pero eso fue exesivo
Pues entonces, según lo que cuentas, habría sido lo mismo en cualquier otro avión. Las turbulencias están relacionadas con la masa de aire por la que se mueve el avión, no con el avión en sí.

What it like to fly on a Dash 8-400??
Why is it that being the atr an European aircraft most european carriers seem to prefer the dash 8??
Well, I really don't know. Maybe the maintenance is cheaper on the ATR or burns less fuel. I really don't know... =/
Bombardier is better. In aircrafts, never say European, American or even Korean if there is any, think safety and quality. Bombardier is somehow European now as Airbus bought 51% of its stocks.

@@fancal2135 Porque la velocidad de rotación de la hélice se acercaba a la tasa máxima de fotogramas por segundo de la cámara. De hecho, cuando lo alcanza, es cuando le hélice parece que va parada en el vídeo.

@@OnBoardHD Hay una aerolínea llamada Láser que tiene vuelos locales en Venezuela y algunas rutas internacionales como república dominicana, Aruba, Ecuador y Panama. Lo interesante es que la mayoría de la flota de la aviación comercial de Venezuela son aviones muy viejos y de verdad es bueno el nivel de los tecnicos y pilotos. Venezuela un destino que debería plantearte hay casi 0 blogs de aviación sobre sus aeropuerto y aeronaves.

No way the Q400 is better than the ATR.... it's soooo much noisier!!!

He volado mucho en ATR-72-200 en Canarias por Binter Canarias en los 90 como era residente Canaria tenia descuento en los billetes con mi familia y amigas, por diseño prefiero los ATR.72 que los Dash-8 ambos tienen bastante ruido con las hélices del motor, en el Dash como en el Fokker-50 y el Fokker-F27 desde la ventanilla se ve como recoge y extiende el tren, en los ATR-72 si te sientas justo en medio del motor veras hacia abajo la trampilla cubrepata del tren con el contorno de la rueda y se ve como se recoge hacia el vientre para recoger el tren, en los ATR-42 y ATR-72 el tren principal no posee trampillas al igual que el B737, las ruedas quedan retraídas en el vientre a la vista cerrando el pozo del fuselaje
No podría hacer comparativa con el Dash-8 por que no he montado en este modelo
La verdad, como bien dices, es que son bastante ruidosos.
Yo no sabría con cual quedarme. Tal vez con el ATR. Sin embargo, no cogería ninguno para un vuelo de más de 1h si tengo disponible un jet con otra aerolínea.
Ayer lei que Austrian Airlines había comprado 10 A320 para sustituir sus 18 Dash8! ✈✈

4:00 creo que es eslogan... mmmm. No me gusta. Puede ser mas rapido que bus y tren. Pero es que no tienes que estar con tanta antelación al avión. De hecho el Ave puedes acceder al anden con 5 minutos antes de la llegada del tren.
Por cierto, el Dash-8 muy bonita la decoracion. Que tanto avion blanco aburre
Jaja Es que es eso, un eslogan. Aunque lo cierto es que para las rutas que vuela Flybe, sin duda son más rápidos que el bus o tren, especialmente en UK donde no hay tren de alta velocidad.

Well, I partially agree with you. My experiences were not the best with them... The first time I flew with them I did it because I wanted to have a Flybe video on the channel. The second and last one was because I didn't have another chance...
Anyway, It's always sad to see and airline dissapearing like this... =(
