This is the craziest dessert ever to me, because of the beans, but when I lived in Korea, this was so good to have at the Korean sauna.

The ice shaver that you used 12 years ago in NY is a Filipino ice shaver they use that when they make halo halo like patbingsu in the Philippines

When I went to Korea , I had this and was instantly hooked on the delicious flavour so went for 2nds every time . At home in the UK we use vanilla ice cream, home made soft rice cake pieces and the red bean paste( aduki beans) very nice.

@@EmmelineSama Only a special expensive kind costs that much. Usually muuuuuch less expensive.
@EmmelineSama Haha it doesn't cost THAT much! A large bingsu (enough for 2 to 4 people) sold from a bingsu shop costs 9,000-15,000 KRW or so in average. The hotel in question just happens to be very high-end.

There are few dishes as loveable as patbingsu, but Maangchi's homemade version just stole my heart, even more. 대단해 보여요 🙂

Wow! And thanks for highlighting a sugar alternative. I think that Allulose (you can find it in many grocery stores) would be better than Swerve because it tastes exactly like sugar (but slightly less sweet), melts down to a sticky syrup like real sugar does, and doesn't get weird crystallization when chilled. Just a suggestion for those Maangchi fans who liked the recipe idea and are avoiding sugar.
I just looked up Allulose since I had never heard of it and your description sounded very promising... Well, "Allulose has not been approved as safe in the European Union or in Canada". I personally can't access it (yet?) anyway since I live in Europe, but maybe even US Maangchi viewers who could go and buy some, would rather know that there's still a big question mark next to it. ;)

In my country we serve crushed ice like that in styro cups. It is called SNO CONE and is served with different flavoured syrup of your choice. You can add condensed milk if you desire. It is delicious, especially on hot days! 😊🇹🇹

In Jamaica we soak them over night after washing them and then in the morning there soft to cook

I've been reading a manwha called Cooking Sorcerer and I've been learning about different foods and this one was the one that looked the most delicious. The editor's note only said it was a milk based shaved ice dessert with bean paste. That so under described it! I'm going to try and make this myself.

I love patbingsu so refreshing summer dessert
In India we have a similar kind of street food called "chuski gola" made from Ice and different flavoured syrups like rose, lemon, vetiver roots (khus), kala khatta (i don't know its english name😂) etc. But i really love patbingsu because whenever i used to see it in kdramas i used to have craving for it. Then i made it at home (offcourse with substitutes 😢)....

I've had a Taiwanese version of this with snow ice and condensed milk and sweet red beans but also grass jelly. I loved the red beans and milk but the grass jelly tasted so bitter 😭 Adding fruit and rice cakes to this sounds so good... not to mention i get to skip out on the grass jelly!!!
