And smiled to myself.

not for philosophy does this rose give a damn . . .

(While you and i have lips and voices which
are for kissing and to sing with
who cares if some oneeyed son of a bitch
invents an instrument to measure Spring with?
each dream nascitur, is not made . . .)
why then to Hell with that: the other; this,
since the thing perhaps is
to eat flowers and not to be afraid.

Love how you used your scraps so beautifully in that West End jacket Teresa. Sew Frugal is my favorite and I enjoyed seeing all your makes. xx Karen
Thank you so much! It's a great challenge and always gets my creativity going!
I am sure that I am not the only one that really appreciates the amount of work you put into your sewing and the energy to post it all. Thank you so much :)
You are so sweet. Thank you! I do it because I love it!
Hi Theresa. Yay, I'm so glad your hands are getting better! Forward shoulders can put more pressure on the nerve where it goes through the elbow area since forward shoulders result in the hands and wrists rotating inward. It's great you are back to yoga! I've gotten in the habit of rolling my shoulders backwards before each cut with the rotary cutter and it seems to help.
I love how you created the jacket from corduroy scraps. It looks fantastic! You might find that you really like having some stretch in the back yoke in terms of keeping your neck and the nerves running through it happy. That was a key piece for me to be able to wear a shirt without flaring up my neck because the shirt was pulling on it. But I need to use a 4-way stretch fabric for the back yoke -- so far it's been cotton jersey scraps -- to make woven shirts possible to wear without pain. I'm sure the fitting experts would frown on that, but at this point in my life I'm all about comfort and staying out of pain, and this works for me.
The Uvita top is fantastic with the color-blocked scraps. What a great way to feature the avocado fabric. I'd probably be calling it the Avocado Toast Top since the terracotta jersey reminds me of toast. You have a fantastic way with color, Antonia
I've been continuing to see a physiotherapist, who has been given the exercises and working on my shoulders and neck. I do think that is a factor, even if my MRI was normal. We all have a lot of poor habits with our posture. All we can do is try and help what we can.
And avocado toast tee, that is too good! 😂
Love the scrappy jacket Theresa, especially the colours. The blue, orange and brown panels remind me of those suede jackets from the 70’s. They go so well with your flares ❤
Oh yeah, the jacket is great with my flares!! I'm not going to be too sad about the suede '70s jacket comparison, either. 😉
@@LostMyThread no it's gorgeous. Something about the orange and blue together is just super lovely.
The things you made are a perfect example of scrap busting Theresa. The coat is the outright winner for me, because it all looks very intentional, which it is. I'm glad your health problem seems to be getting resolved at last.
Thanks Annette, I totally agree about the jacket. It was fun to get to play around with the low stakes of scraps.
That jacket is just brilliant! Well done. Such an inspiration!
Thank you! I'm so happy with how it all came together!
As another fan of corduroy, that jacket is my favourite of your makes. So inspiring!
Thank you so much! I still have some smaller scraps leftover, but I haven't decided what to do with them yet.
The sloper school sounds awesome! ❤
It's been really eye-opening! I already pay for the all access Cashmerette club, and this came as a freebie for members. I couldn't pass it up!
Thanks for sharing your sloper school progress. Once you get your sloper fitted be sure to check out the Closet Historians channel she does some great flat pattern drafting based on a fitted sloper. It's super empowering.
Ooh, that is such a great tip. I will definitely check that out!
I just didn’t have time for the sloper school. Now I’m really sorry.
Love your makes. The jacket is exceptional.
If it comes up again, it's worth knowing that you can access all of the sloper school content and videos in the future, even if you don't have time to make the slopers at the time of the course. I'm very behind and deciding not to let it bother me!
Your Jacket is just wonderful 🙌❤️💜💙
Thank you! I love it!
Oh my that jacket is beautiful I wouldn’t worry about the interfacing showing no one is going to see that when you are wearing it. Best wishes from Portugal
Thank you so much! I was delighted with how this one turned out.
Your scrappy tee is so cute!
Thanks! It was a fun use of those fabrics!
So glad to hear you talk about doing a full bust adjustment! I recently read *Ahead of the Curve* by Cashmerette founder Jenny Rushmore, and did my first FBA after! What a change it made in fit! And when she talks about most clothes being drafted on a B-cup bust - no wonder so little fits me right on top! I hope it is just as revolutionary for your sewing and fit!
I've totally been through the same experience, so I absolutely understand. Such a groundbreaking moment when you realize! I recommend checking out Cashmerette Patterns in general, but there are also a few other sewing companies that use multiple bust cup sizes. Some of my favorites are Jennifer Lauren Handmade and Pattern Scout. Wishing you luck on your own sewing journey!
Things are looking up in sewing, Chai, books, work, yoga yeah!!! 💪
Lots of positives to focus on!
I loved all your makes, and how you've told the issues that you had/have.
The slopper school stuff you add. Wow, what a benefit!
Thank you so much! I've been really surprised by the sloper school. You think you know everything about fitting...
Lovely! The Peppermint Boxy top looks like the wallpaper from Willy Wonka’s factory.❤
That's a very cute comparison. If it was fruity...!
Loved you makes, your jacket is so much fun. I was thinking of making my 4 year grandson a denim jacket out of old jeans. Was thinking of making it out of different colors of denim and now have some idea of what i was thinking. Thanks.
How cool! I think it would work perfectly with denim. Have fun. I hope it turns out even better than you imagine!
Sounds like the sloper school has been a great learning experience. Sitting here waiting for the perfect chai 😂
Thanks, Christine! I'm waiting for that chai myself! 😂
Your Jacket!!!! 🎊🎉🎉🎉🎉
😁😁
That jacket is SO FUN!
Right? Love being able to use up scraps and get such a cool jacket out of it!
I absolutely LOVE that jacket, wow!
Thank you so much! I was really excited to see the outcome. I wasn't sure at points, but it worked out so well!
It is so good to hear that you are still able to do the things you love doing despite the problems with your hand. Your jacket is lovely. I have also made the West End jacket. It was probably a bit overambitious - my first jacket in a jumbo cord and I flat felled the seams but I am pretty happy with it. It started me on a jacket craze. I then made the Ready to Sew Julien chore jacket and I just bought the Atelier Brunette LE Veste pattern. I saw on your list that you want to visit the Merchant & Mills shop. I am just cutting out an indian blockprint that I bought at the M&M shop - my first ever visit there. It was a boiling hot day last summer and there was no water in the town that day, so we couldn't get a cup of tea! It is a great treat to go to the shop though and you will definitely love it. As for walking in all weathers, I have done that for years because I have dogs, so no option! My reward is that because I live next to a forest I see every change in the season. At the moment, the place is full of woodland flowers and even though it has rained and rained, it is still beautiful. Go enjoy your walks!!!
I would absolutely love to live near the woods and be able to watch the seasons so closely. It sounds idyllic! Dogs are a great way to push you out of the house, even when you don't want to.
I've also made the Julian chore jacket, which I really like. It sounds like you did push yourself, with flat-felled seams and jumbo cord. But you obviously enjoyed the process if you wanted to make more jackets! I say go for what is giving you the most excitement in the moment. Good luck with the atelier brunette one!
I was hoping to spend the day in Rye because it's a bit of a trek. I will do a little research because it would be good to go to Merchant and Mills but also taking a bit of the local area. I'm hoping to go in May for my birthday. Watch this space!
We were having a little holiday at the time in Sussex which was how I got to go to Rye. To be honest, the M&M shop was the highlight of the visit. Either way, I hope you have a lovely birthday!
The sloper school sounds very useful.
It's been surprising! I'm curious to see where it goes.
Love to see where it goes....and would really love to enjoy the process with you ❤
I really enjoyed this episode. Your projects turned out beautifully- I hope you can rescue your top because that fabric is so pretty. I am enrolled in Sloper school but I’m behind. I was sick earlier and now I’m preparing for a new puppy. Luckily I’m retired so should be able to catch up. Thank you for all your hard work. I appreciate your thoughtful insights.
I've already managed to play around with the boxy top, and am much happier with it now. I look forward to sharing it next month. I'm very behind on sloper school, myself. But the good thing is that you can access the content whenever you want, so I'm not too worried about being "on time".
Fun Jacket!!!🎉
Thank you! I was so happy with how that one came together.
Love your jacket. I've never been good with a rotary cutter always veers off from the edge of the ruler.
We definitely all find the best methods for us. I'm a rotary cutter girl, true and true!
Wow the sloper and alterations are soo interesting xx
I know, I was really surprised!
Love your West End Jacket - what a great mix of textures and colours. Sorry your boxy top didn’t work out, the fabric is so pretty so I hope you can reuse it x
Thank you, the jacket was definitely a triumph for me. I'll be sharing a new and improved version of the boxy top next month. 😉
Your jacket is really nice and unique ❤
Thank you! Definitely not going to run into anyone else wearing the same jacket. 😉
I think the boxy peppermint top would be transformed by a square front neckline. Absolutely love the colorblock corduroy jacket!
That's a cool idea! I've already made some adjustments, and look forward to sharing what I did with it.
Love these makes!!! Although they’re using scraps they look really intentional and the wear end jacket is so great!
I’m intrigued by your chai journey 😂 and how cool is sloper school!
Thank you so much, Rachael! I've got lots more scrappy plans now. And chai journey feels like it's nearly there... 🤞
Wow that dress is so beautiful 🤩
Thank you! I think the fabric really does so much for it!
Kudos on that jacket, big thumbs 👍🏼 up. Glad you have made enough progress to get back to work.
Thanks, Jan! It felt like a risk at points, but I'm glad that I persevered with the jacket. It's so unique and cool!
So glad you re on the mend. Great scrap busting. LOVE your jacket its amazing
Thank you, the jacket came together even better than I had hoped!
Such great makes! And I really want that chai recipe when get it figured out 😁
Thank you so much! I keep feeling like I'm taking two steps forward and one step back with every chai recipe. I know I'm getting there... 😉
All of your makes are so great, but that jacket is especially impressive. Those colors go together so well, what a beautiful jacket! I also really enjoy hearing about your sloper. That’s such a cool way to see potential adjustments instead of trying to guess.
Hope your health continues to improve. Our local herbalist makes a turmeric chai which might not be the perfect chai, but it is anti-inflammatory & delicious! If you were in the US I’d send you some, but perhaps someone in the UK makes something similar. ☕️💕
Thank you, I had visions of this jacket but wasn't sure how it would come together. I'm so happy with the outcome! I would be surprised if I couldn't find a similar chai around here. I'll take a look!
Theresa, your version of the Peppermint jacket is ❤❤ I was excited to see you piece those corduroy scraps together, and WOW!
The horizontal yoke on the floral boxy top accentuates that shape. Making the whole thing much shorter could have been an improvement in how you feel in it.
I'm in Sloper School, too, and am putting together #2 now.
The Midnight Library was a great read. I recently started Prophet Song by Paul Lynch but I may not be able to do dystopia this presidential election season. - Kelly
Things, Kelly! I had some doubts about the peppermint jacket at points, but I'm so glad that I persevered. I also agree with you about the length of the boxy top. I have ended up removing the bottom band, among other changes. Much better now. I'll share next month!
And I'm very behind on sloper school, but I like that you can work at your own pace.
You already know how fab I think the jacket is😍. What a pity about the boxy top, I'm sure you ll find a way to rescue it . I've started sloper school too but am a bit behind! Interesting about your balance lines. So glad to hear wrist improving 🎉
Thank you, Debs! I'm very behind on sloper school, too. I made this first sloper and thought I knew what I needed to adjust. I made a second one, and it seems like it has the same problems of the first. I decided that I needed to take a breather and look at it again with fresh eyes. I know I'll learn a lot, but it will be a slow process.
Love your Westend jacket. I’m really tempted to make one especially as Westend is just over the river from where my son used to live in Brisbane, where Peppermint magazine is based. It’s a very cool, hipster sort of area with lots of lovely independent shops, cafes, restaurants and galleries. Your jacket would be so at home there! I always pay something for their patterns now because they were very badly hit by the floods a couple of years ago.
Oh, that is such a fun idea! I would be very tempted, if I were you. I generally tend to pay for things that are 'pay what you can', especially when I've had good success with that company before. I do want to support my creators!
Nice wearables . I find if I make a boxy top I just downsize on smaller size .
I have done that at times, but I don't think that would have saved the armholes on this one. It's almost like it's designed to wear something underneath... But none of the other reviewers seemed to mention it!
The jacket is my favorite! This is an inspirational video for scrap busting! I’m super intrigued with slower school. I couldn’t join this time and am hoping it will be offered again when I have more time. So happy your wrist is improving. Thank you for taking the time to share!
I'm really proud of getting through some of my scraps. I've got plenty more to work through, but it's a start! I know that Cashmerette have talked about doing sloper school again, so I'm sure you'll have a chance!
Thank you for the update the poetry. I love Haiku. It's fun to make too. I often try to stick with the original "rules" and make it about nature but it is such a fun format to play with that other things get thrown in too. 😄
I understand about your hand and getting back to work. These connective tissue things seem to take forever to heal. I hope you are able to figure out more hacks to keep going without further injury.
It can be fun to work within restrictions of rhyme, meter, syllables, but I also think some rules are made to be broken... 😉 It's more about enjoying yourself and expressing something, to me. I love haiku and write some here and there, too!
Wow…awesome!!! I love your jacket!!! Good job!
Thank you, me too!
Awesome scrappy makes! It feels so good to use up remnants, doesn’t it? It’s interesting to see your Wyman Sloper and the things you’ve already learned. I registered for Sloper School, but works been too busy for me to make any progress. I’m hoping that I can dig in after this week.
I'm very behind on my sloper school, but the great thing is that you can access the content anytime anytime. I'm not too worried about keeping to schedule. I hope you find some interesting things out when you make yours!
Love your jacket! ❤️
Thanks, me too!
Great frugal makes and scrap busting. I feel your frustration of not being able to use a rotary cutter. I don't know if you have access to Martelli rotary cutter is designed for less hand strain. There is also another one that the Fabric Junction Quilt shop uses in her videos, it doesn't have a handle and fits in the palm of the hand. Thanks for sharing your makes. I hope your hand continues to heal.
Thank you so much! I'm hoping to get the Martelli rotary cutter for my birthday in May. I will report back with how I get on with it. I'm not convinced, looking at the design, but it's worth a try!
Your jacket is fantastic! 😍
Thank you so much! 💞
Guess you needed a type of darts, but still looks good on you!!!
There's definitely a variety of ways to get some shape, and I think my body needs them!
Well done on all your makes. I love using scraps/remnants in my makes
Love your jacket, and I know you don't like your top with FG fabric, but I can't stop loving it. Have you considered wearing skin coloured seamless cami underneath? Many years ago I had fabulous silk chiffon RTW top without sleeves, I loved it but it was too revealing in similar way to your top, friend of my suggested a cami on top of bra and it worked perfectly. I am not a big fan of microfiber clothes, but it worked in this regard.
Glad you hand is slowly improving.
I managed to find a solution that works for the top, and I'm much happier with it now. There were elements of that style that I didn't think were particularly doing me any favors. I look forward to sharing how I altered it next month!
Your West End Jacket is just genius. Love the pop of orange under the color to tie it together. Definitely move forward with the additional binding. Great job on the top stitching faux flat fells.
Thank you so much. I think having the brighter color really brought something to the project!
Your jacket is am🤩azing! It fits you a treat too. I would pay good money for it, however, my envious green shade is not too bright as it would be too small for me anyway.
Well, you've just got to make one for yourself! 😉 It was honestly a really fun project. I recommend!
Love your jacket, I’ve downloaded this pattern and really want to try it now 🤞with some scraps
So fun! You'll have to let me know how it works out!
I had exactly the same problem with the peppermint boxy top, I have to wear a singlet under it, but would love to fix it!
I wish I'd spotted that issue and other people's reviews. It probably would have made me pick a different pattern!
Take a look at the Dawn dress simplicity M8104 and the sleeve alternatives and see if your top could use a similar sleeve to hide your dignity. You could use white or any colour in your top if you don’t have enough left over material. Xx
Thank you so much for the suggestion, I will check it out!
Have you tried the Martelli rotary cutter? It helps with wrist issues. I hope that you get better soon.
I've looked at the design, and I'm not entirely convinced that it will be great for me, either. I've put it on my wish list for my birthday coming up in May, though. We will see!
HiI Teresa, loved this! Just wondering if fabric colour pens in blue would cover the white interfacing? That would save the unpicking 🥰
That's not a bad idea, but I've actually managed to solve the problem in a different way. I'll share next month!
I had the same side boob flashing problem with the Peppermint boxy top. It was really unexpected as none of the pics I'd seen online gave that impression. Anyway, I like the boxy style and the scrap-busting potential so I want to try again. I'm wondering if raising the base of the armhole might do the trick. We shall see!
I agree, I'm always disappointed when other sewists don't share the problems they have with patterns. I may have shied away from this pattern, had I known. I do think raising the base of the armhole should be a good trick, but it will also change the fit over the bust. It's tricky!
I have to say I'm the opposite of you! I've always used scissors to cut out but I really want to use a rotary cutter - I just can't control it - even with a ruler it just keeps veering off in all directions 😢. I wish I could learn to do it... I love your jacket ❤
That used to happen with me Avril, when I first got a rotary cutter. These were pre CZcams/internet days. Then a friend who was a quilter pointed out that, as I was left-handed, I needed to swap the blade to the opposite side. This was a game changer of course, but I just hadn’t thought about it even though it maybe should have been obvious to me 😂 So, maybe if you have a friend who is a quilter they could have a look at your technique to see if there is anything you could change. Hope you don’t mind me commenting.
@@maggiecraven9625 I don't mind at all - any advice is welcome - sadly I don't have any friends who quilt - or sew for that matter. I'll just keep practicing xx
The only tips that I could give would be: look down on the area that you're cutting from above to see if you're veering offtrack. And slow down. I think if you start off moving very slowly and watching where you're cutting, you can start speeding up with time. If I'm using a quilting ruler, I will be focusing on both pressing down into the fabric and also pressing to the left towards the ruler and pushing firmly down with my left hand on the ruler to make sure that it doesn't budge. I'm sure like so many things, it will take practice. Maybe start off using it on smaller pieces or trimming edges of quilt blocks?
@@LostMyThread that's a good idea - I think part of the problem is that I am always in a hurry - I've been working on slowing down and enjoying the process rather than focusing on the end result. Baby steps though lol
Love the dress you made previously in the fabric godmother fabric. I’ve never made that dress as it always looks so oversized especially at the waist, but yours looks stunning. How did you cinch in the waist and make it more fitted?
I’m new to your channel, lovely to find another vlogger to follow. Thanks 🤩
I've made a couple of videos about that dress, so if you search for m7969 and my channel name, you should be able to find them. I added an elastic channel to the waist, which really makes that dress for me.
Thank you, off to search now ❤
Can you laay the LeBrea tee pattern over the top and make adjustments to the armhole? I have done this with other clothes and it works well. (Check out Catherine Sews, she is an upcycler and alterations queen)
I am on a bit of a up-cycle kick right now. Almost done with making over a dress into a top.
You read my mind! I made some other small changes, and look forward to sharing the results with you next month. It's pretty satisfying to work through some up cycles. They're surprisingly quick projects and can feel like a brand new garment in your wardrobe!
Natalie Merchant (formerly 10,000 Maniacs) put the EE Cummings Poem 'Maggie and Milly and Molly and May' to music, along with other poems in the album Leave Your Sleep. It's a lovely arrangement and worth a listen: czcams.com/video/T534skkISmM/video.html
Oh fun! I will definitely check that out. Thanks for sharing! Björk has done a lot of songs with ee cummings poems as lyrics. My favorite is probably 'sun in my mouth' from the album 'vespertine'.
What if you turn back to front and use it as a kimono? The peppermint top.
That's not a bad idea, but I'm not sure that that would be any more "my style". I've actually managed to make it work for me and look forward to sharing what I did next month.
I have soooo many scraps ….
Hahaha, I haven't even made a dent in mine. More scrappy projects, coming soon...
I just knew your scrappy jacket would look great, and it really does!! I was also looking forward to the scrappy tee with the avocado print. It's awesome! And I think you look fabulous in the first boxy tee!!! You amaze me at how well you do on your yearly goals. I sure hope you're able to fully heal and get back to doing all the things you love!
Thank you for your kind words, Tammy! I was hopeful about the jacket, but I definitely had doubts at times. So glad that I persevered!
