I made this video a few years ago while I was still pretty new to CZcams. It’s long winded. Sometimes I consider making a version half as long with the same main points. Here’s the condensed version in writing if you don’t want to sit for twenty minutes.
    1. A one length buzzed haircut is “round” meaning all one length. This only looks good for a short while but once the hair is long enough to stick out, bend, and move, it should be cut a little more square to avoid an awkward phase.
    2. Once you’ve got a square haircut if you continue growing the top and tapering the bottom you eventually end up with a bowl cut. Stop tapering the bottom and let it all lay back.
    3. If you have an undercut it might make your hair easier to live with in the short term but will cause problems in the long term as you grow it out. Once the sides are long enough to lay back it might be a better choice to lose length on top and get rid of the undercut so that the hair can all grow together in a more versatile shape- you’ll have less awkward hair this way.
    4. When everything is long enough to flow back it should be very easy to live with and should always look relatively styled as long as it has a good shape to it (don’t visit the cheapest barber you can find or a fade specialist who dreads doing scissor cuts, find someone who does these cuts). The most frequent thing you’ll likely need is trimming the back as it’ll feel like you have a mullet eventually. If you’re into the mullet then leave it alone.
    5. You’ve been sweeping your hair back for a year. Now your hair is long.

as a guy who grew his hair out since c19 this is good information. my hair is waist line now it's almost the max length. I've had my hair long enough to put in my pant pockets before.

My own hair growth success, I myself followed this daily regimen:
Take morning sunshine every day for essential vitamin D. Consume veggies of various colors. Using paraben-free and fragrance free shampoo and massaging twice a week with hair oil from litttleextra's cooconion. Important to remember that hair growth is affected by overall health as well as circulation and diet.

Not always the best advice though if you're wanting to tie it up like a bun as you'll have the length on top but the shorter hair at back if your neck won't reach to tie with the rest. So it's best letting it all grow out equally and just trim dead ends if needed

The last tip is definitely the most important. Check if the barber actually knows how to do the hairstyle you want. I went to a barber for quite some time and I was very happy until I decided to grow my hair out. I said to him that I want to grow out my hair and that I just want the edges to get cleaned up. I ended up with an undercut and lost like 2 months of progress growing out the sides and even had to get another haircut to shorten my top hair because I looked like a clown a couple of weeks later. So not checking cost me like 3-4 months in total...

Awesome video. Question: About the front --- what about men who are thinning at the front?
Where it grows so much slower and is always shorter. What's the solution, style the longer middle over the front and wait a few years for the front to finally grow?
I like to cut my own hair. This long flat top is really interesting to me.

You have to consider hair textures and volume. Wavy and/or curly hair can require different cuts compared to straight hair.

Really, how so? This is the first I’ve heard of this, aside from minor refining.

@@andrewdoeshairMaybe I'm not describing enough what I am talking about. My hair is so dense that I can give two or more people heads of hair. People with straight and just about enough hair(thin enough) are the easiest to work with.

People growing their hair out for the 1st time make such a big deal out of the "stages" and should I get maintenance trims yada yada. Take it from me my hair is halfway down my back. My last haircut was so long ago I can't honestly remember exactly when it was but i think because of pictures it must've been late 2019. Anyway here is the secret to growing long hair. Stop cutting it, don't worry about it, it will grow, it takes multiple years to be what most consider "long". Two at the very least. Stop obsessing and let it grow. Its hair after all. Also.a hat is your friend for bad hair days

I decided to just let my hair grow out my a short undercut throughout winter, and My sides usually curl up in the first 3 months of growth, and Im so glad I grew them out in the winter, cause of the coldand less humidity they didnt frizz like crazy and being 3 months in I had gotten past the truy awkward phase, now Im 8 months iin just about and its getting alot easier, I just stuck in there and basially forgot about it, and avoid the barber for ages, Im getting to my goal of afull bun

Would be helpful for me 10 years earlier. I just shaved my whole hair completely (after it was already around 20 cm long, but i was frustrated because i cutted the sides short out of impatience) and then let it grow non-stop. My hair has now seen a scissor only from distance the last 10 years. It's now as long that it reaches my hip. :)

I just made one fade and decided to grow it for a year.
Apparently I have curly hair, but not to the point that it's an afro, I have this spirally natural dreadlocks lol.
