Shalani has a really nice case study and the overall portfolio looks great! Simple and clear but still personalized and unique. It's clear that she has experience with graphic design and is not necessarily an "early" career designer.
    Some takeaways:
    • To tighten up an already solid case study, pay close attention to the subject of sentences. There were a couple of instances where Shalani switched from you to we a couple of times in one sentence. It's not a huge issue, but these details get noticed more as you gain seniority. If Shalani is going for higher-level roles, this will be something to pay attention to.
    • Shalani has really solid 'thumbnails' for each of her projects. Showing what skills the project focuses on and listing what the viewer can expect, she is setting clear expectations - and even causing some positive anticipation! I don't usually review more than one case study in a portfolio (I know y'all love me, but you don't need an hour of Maigen Time, lol), but I had the desire to read further and that's a great sign!
    • Even small projects, like the one I reviewed - a website redesign for a small furniture business - can be powerful examples of your skill and experience. Focus on what you accomplished, not just showing /what you did/ to accomplish it.
Really fantastic work, Shalani! Excited to see you succeed!

Hey Team! Today we have another in the series of Early Career Designer Portfolio Reviews, where I conduct a kind of UI assessment called a Cognitive Walkthrough. I review an early career designers portfolio and resume and give feedback for ways to improve it as they look for a job in the UX industry.
I'm a Sr. UX Designer with 9+ years of experience in UX design and a passion for helping early career designers as they make a career shift into tech. You can find out more about me at maigenthomas.com
Also, you can find out about me at www.patreon.com/maigenux where I hope you'll join an awesome crew of folks as I provide motivation and mentorship, build an apprenticeship agency to employ early-career designers and teach UX as I do UX.

I agree about the annotations. I've also recently started adding them so it's more obvious why I'm showing these screenshots. However, I personally would never show the screenshots at a 45° angle as it distracts from the design in my opinion. Thanks for the videos.

Depending on the image, that also creates a potential accessibility issue! Good catch!
