In this video, I'm going to try to review 50 portfolios super, super fast. You're probably asking yourself, why do it so fast? It's not fair! Give the person enough time to dive into their portfolio. But the truth is, I recently had to hire a designer and I got 550 portfolio applications. If I would spend one minute reviewing a portfolio, that would be over 10 hours! Let's see how I manage to review 50 in 20min.

This should be a recurring series where you review site/portfolio designs and give suggestions as well as praise for good design.
I agree ☑️
Agree
Totally agree!! This video was just great because you gave me some pointers that made me realize I should redesign my website ASAP.
Love it, feels more realistic as you represent someone hiring who lacks time. My takeaways are:
- Hero is crazy important
- Nice profile image
- Unique layout
- Interesting consistent visuals
- Social proof
- Too much text
- CTA at the end vs before seeing any work.
Feels like the structure of a high converting landing page. Patterns are similar.
@tyl2953hero as in the first thing you see, not the comic portfolio
i never understood why people feel the need of saying they use webflow everywhere and right away. 98% of the clients wouldn’t know what that means and it might just confuse them
Thank you
I know right!!!! If someone knows what webflow is, they might as well learn how to use it themselves
I would agree and I believe these portfolios are geared towards getting employed full time rather than gaining freelance clients
Everyone knows what Webflow is, but I agree that being a Webflow Developer as opposed to a regular Web Developer isn't a selling point.
@@timothychinye6008Most people do not know, what webflow is. People who are designers or work in web know, but the rest doesn't. Ask your parents, your non-creative/dev friends. If you haven't talked about webflow, they do not know, what that is.
I think both formats work well: a deep dive so that we can understand why the design works well (or doesn't), and quick reviews like this video where we have an idea of what grabs people's attention at first glance.
Thanks for the shoutout and feedback, Ran! 😁🙌 It means a lot, especially coming from the person I found out about Figma and Webflow! A portfolio redesign is scheduled already, and will stick to one good font and non-generic copy 🙌🤙
I loved your super fast reviews! Please do more of this helpful videos because it’s really inspiring!
Keep doing these, really love to see how your react. I just finished my Digital Design & Development Bachelor 1st year and everything I learnt is what you refer to in the video. Super insightfull!
This format rocks! I absolutely love it. So good to learn from a first impression
I watch your videos, I learn new things and increase my knowledge of creativity. It really helps me to better understand current and traditional ideas of the design industry. Keep up the good work! 😊
I LOVE THIS VIDEO! I do this every day with clients and competitors. Honesty helps them! You've shot straight as an arrow. Very refreshing
Appreciate the shoutout and your input, Ran! 🙌
I'm in the process of revamping my portfolio, taking your advice into account by refining the colors and fonts. 🙌
how did you made it? html? or a page builder?
How bro ???
The craziest thing about this is that now when I visit the websites you've reviewed, most have already made changes based on your feedback further improving their portfolios.
thanks for reviewing my site! really appreciate you taking the time
This was awesome! Thank you! It would be really great to do this again taking fewer items and going a bit more in-dept. I would like both approaches.
Love this format! First impression can actually tell you a lot and give some valid feedback to work with, rather than going over every little thing.
These reviews are really helpful. Please continue and as mentioned a deep dive into one or two portfolios is a good idea. I see typography plays a big part.
Thank you so much. Your video really really really helped me. And yh, this format of short reviews is just fine
Not to be rude, but its a good lesson as a designer/developer to follow these reviews.
Being a graphic designer myself for over 12 years, I have learned not to overcomplicate either your work or yourself.
Ram defenitly has some good pointers we all can learn from. Cool to see so many try something new and differrent, you never get too old to learn something new. But often simplicity and straight for wins over overcomplicated layouts and messages.
Stick to your gots, try things first before launching, test, re-do, test again - Trust me. I am at my portfolio website version 12 and still not satisfied :D
Thankyou for an awesome video Ran and look forward to see more portfolios!
PS: NEVER GIVE UP folks :)
really like this review format. i hope it could be a weekly series
Thanks for this❤ This video clearly show what will be reaction when we put our portfolio for job. Also gives some points about what should we include when we make our portfolio.
Yes! Love it! ❤ can you do also about other kind of websites besides portfolio?
Varun's site was my favorite. It had great spacing, bright, easy to read, easy to browse, with creative Doodley artwork that all matches.
I think, I can totally feel what you are feeling. And I know it's something eh-eh. I wish I could type honestly, but uh-hu. But such series teach us a lot about what to do and what not to do. Definetly learned a lot! Thank you very much.
great style of video. keep them coming
Lovely and useful video Ran, flux team is amazing and does an incredible work but you have a charisma that no one can replicate.
Appreciate this comment. Everyone has their own charisma and I think different people can relate to different people.
The first website was exceptional
Wow, you did an amazing job reviewing all those portfolios so quickly! Your insights are really valuable. I'm curious, out of all the portfolios you reviewed, which one stood out to you the most, and why?
I can't remember. My brain has 90 minute memory cache.
I'm really enjoying this format! The initial impression can provide valuable insights and feedback, saving us the need to dissect every tiny detail.
I love these portfolio review videos since they provide valuable insights into design styles and trends. Like the content, thanks for sharing!
Your content was so engaging that I lost track of time and didn't realize it had been 22 minutes already. Keep up the great work!
You did a great job. Looking forward to more from you!
thanks, this was great review style. it is actually how employers will look at the websites as you said in the video as well. so looking forward to more similar videos. thanks.
Great video! I immediately subscribed to this channel to learn more, and liked it ❤ This is stuff I learn from, also love the speed in which you are doing it.
Welcome aboard!
Hello, I am new here and I love this format of youtube videos, and I'd love to see more!! Keep this up!
I love these reviews. Maybe you could do them in two different ways: the fast reviews and in another video the ones you've piled up for a closer look.
Maybe you could do a part two where you spend a bit more time on the ones that you liked? The ones that you put in your "I'm gonna look into that" pile.
Would love to have a compact video of you explaining, what you are looking for when reviewing a portfolio site. Maybe some red flags too.
I'm ok with this way of reviews. Love what you do sir
magnifique vidéo.. je pense qu'il faut avoir plus dans ce sens. C'est une énorme source d'informations. I learned a lot with this format of vidéo.. wish you make a lot like this. thank you
Think it's more beneficial to review portfolios like a prospective employer. You could spend more time reviewing but doubt your opinion would have differed. Found the video insightful and useful. Thank you.
Only gripe is that the one at 17 was a UX design portfolio which is a little different to web design. With UX there is much more detail and research for those positions.
I learn a lot from you. Thank you.
well i really enjoy this video, this format. You can learn a lot from it. Id love this turn out serie.
you got it!
that bento boxes looks soo clean! tutorials on how to do it in framer? that would be cool.
22 minutes! It deserves to watch ✌️💜
Looking forward to the part 2!
Amazing reviews. Learn a lot
love this, hoping for more :)
Thanks for the feedback Ran! I need to change a few things you mentioned
Very useful comments !! The first one is very good !
I will sub if you make this a series...honestly, it's really helpful!
Very helpful; thank you!
Great video! Make more of that! Thanks
Thanks Ran
Good point on the name, I need to sort this out!
Love this would love to see more
Great video to inspire ideas!
What's funny is that you were most critical of designs that weren't generic. The ones you liked had several issues but looked like generic overly animated portfolio sites.
Seria muito interessante se tivesse mais vídeos nesse sentido. Dá pra aprender bastante durante os comentários, apontando ponderações sobre cores, tipografia, layout e outras coisas. Muito obrigado.
I enjoyed your insights. I gained some insights on what to concentrate on with my portfolio site based on your comments. Biggest take away: be intentional, clear out of the gate and be mindful with the amount of text per block.
That's great!
how did you made it? html? or a page builder?
Need more content like this pls!
this was so helpful to see
Thankyou for sharing !!
Awesome, love the quick overview. Sub
Thanks for the sub!
Please, also evaluate how these portfolios look on mobile. Most people look at websites on mobile anyway nowadays.
Thanks for the review of our portfolio, we appreciate it ! 🫶
And great video overall!
Does this page also share the links to the portfolios somewhere?
I would be very curious to understand if these portfolios are responsive on mobile or not and what alternatives the designers used to achieve optimal performance
The take away is : Easy on the Webflow animations and JS guys, not because there are free and accessible that you should use them all at once. So basically stick with what it works and not getting crazy creative. I personally never been a fan of unique portfolios and seems like the recruiters neither, either it turns out confusing or childish. So let's just stick to showing our work in a consistent and clear way.
Also in addition, u could pick one portfolio among them and fix everything and show it. That would help learning for the viewers as well.
Good idea.
I hope Cory and David worked at the same place because they both have the exact same Hara project on both of their sites! 😅
Great format! Definitely a real life look at what we go through when hiring.
Well spotted Iain! Cory is great and we worked on that one together. He handled the dev and I did the brand identity and site design.
Wow the slides are great in first portfolio i am wondering if he used powerpoint or maybe figma?
I think this is a good format. Clients will give your portfolio 1 minute at very very most, so roast them professionally by first impression sounds like a great idea
1 minute? It's too generous, sometimes they use 5 second rule.
Hero is crazy important
- Nice profile image
- Unique layout
- Interesting consistent visuals
- Social proof
- Too much text
- CTA at the end vs before seeing any work.
As always I’d go to mobile view first, that’s when you know true talents in my opinion
how did they make the website? html/css? or just a pagebuilder???
Cool to see him critiquing. I don’t agree with all the criticism but I appreciate his perspective.
شكرا It was helpful
What's different between webflow developers and normal developers?is there any difference?I'd like to know pls
1:47 Personally loved Flowman / Cory's portfolio!
Yeah, I think it was good too. It`s just not something he wanted or liked. I`m sure another prospective company looking for that kind of designer will love it. Same goes for the others that he just kind of trashed. Every company has their own taste. All in all good devs in my opinion.
What's the link for the portfolio at minute 6?
Is there a part 2?, awesome review!
coming up!
this is brilliant
Could you do one but with UX portfolios? trying to design mine atm and would be helpful
I've watched quite a bit of videos on UX portfolios specifically and talked to people who I know who have made portfolios, and they usually reflect quite a bit of personality in theirs, have pictures of themselves in a non professional setting, is that good or bad? They are trying to get hired by companies though and are not doing freelancing or any of that
like the superfast, please do more
Interesting how you react to these websites
We need Part-2
Реально рабочая связка, спасибо каналу за вашу работу, вы действительно помогаете новичкам
Great observations as usual, but you should pare your reviews down to 10! Can you also review submitted design portfolios?
Follow me on Twitter so you can comment when I ask for submissions
please make this type of video again
it was helpful thanks
Sure I will
Is it essential to build a website? Can't it be achieved through platforms like Notion or other free tools? While I have a coded portfolio, maintaining it is challenging. I aim to showcase my case studies and craft an impressive portfolio design. Any Suggestions are welcome
thank you
Would be cool if they made this exact design, but highly doubt it.
What’s webflow development?
cool , love it :)
Make it about the work first, not all about ‘You’. 😂😂😂
Designers need to understand that BAD COPYWRITING is ruining your design
What a fun and insightful way to explore design portfolios! Your reactions provide valuable insights for both creators and viewers. We at Ceros love this kind of engaging content that fosters learning through shared experiences. Keep the creative reactions coming!
12:28 Thank you for reviewing my site ❤
great website, which font u use?)
Inter
Figma or html/css?
Webflow
love it
why does everybody use web flow?
20:15 This one is a template from a popular Udemy course lol. I see it a lot, and for those taking that course (I took it myself too), I highly recommend you design your own instead of using it. It makes you look unoriginal and doesn't help you stand out from others.
Which one can u give me link
Should a portfolio include a resume section?
its very cool, I get some ideas thanks teacher, for my self I'm ux/ui designer I have designed my portfolio in Figma but its difficult to me to create in webfollow, Wordpress, or framer . how can I do it teacher , I wait your answer
Well, if you want to use your design, your options are either to develop it yourself or have someone else do it!
Please, I need an answer real quick. Are these portfolios made, just using Html Css and Java script????. Because I'm learning web development at the moment. And I find it very difficult to make an easy animation. How tf are these people doing all that
They probably using webflow or other css frameworks like tailwind
