- Garry is a designer, engineer, and founder turned early stage investor, co-founding Initialized Capital in 2012. The firm has invested at the earliest stages of companies like Coinbase, Flexport, Instacart, and Cruise.
Prior to Initialized, Garry spent nearly 5 years as a partner at Y Combinator, advising and funding more than 1,000 companies and founders. He was co-founder of YC-backed blog platform Posterous (acquired by Twitter in 2012) and previously worked at Palantir as a founding member of the engineering team. He also designed Palantir’s logo.

I think new start up in silicon valley will boom sooner when there is a bit less competion around. And new Founders can hire people easily to startup when the tech gaints leave the valley.

It’s a catch 22 to see techies leave the Bay; there’s both good and bad to the techie exodus. I wish you all would’ve put more effort into giving back to the communities and natives you all displaced. But thank you for some of the good tech advancements that actually benefit the earth & humanity. 🙏🏽🙂
I’m a Sr Product Director in Silicon Valley who moved to Boise during the pandemic and the lifestyle is really incredible.
The best companies will be blended in office and virtual, though, since the world has not solved all the issues and inefficiencies with remote work. You will get an advantage getting top talent if you’re open to virtual though.

Awesome interview Marina! San Francisco was built on the gold rush & several other rushes since. People might leave now but they will always come back because it's a city of opportunities & setting up a new life.
This is really true, most successful tech companies had to work on it for over 10 years. So, if you have a dream and you feel you have been working on it forever - ask yourself if you have given it 10 years yet?
