- A quick guide to replacing the driver side axle on a 3rd generation Acura TL. This CV Axle was estimated $900 at the auto shop but the part only cost $54 at Advance Auto parts. The cost really is in the manual labor as it took a few hours to finish this.
You have a 3 year update ? My TL on original axles and it’s been 18 years.
I couldn’t believe that mine broke there too.
Thanks for the video. I appreciate your time. Have you experienced vibration since your repair? The axel you replaced did not have the dynamic damper on it. My issue is that the boot is torn on the driver's side of 06 mt and it is noticeable during slow turns, potholes, and I'm not confident they will last long. With colder weather, I am getting ready to replace. Pricing online has not been easy and all fingers point to oem. Your video is informative on how to replace but what is your experience driving afterward with non oem?
It's been over a year and I haven't noticed any vibration or anything different since replacing it. In general the TL hits small bumps hard now but it was like that before the Axle went too. I really need to get in there and do the shocks, but the Axle has been good.
My steering wheel skakes a very small amount after take off and at around 65-75 on the freeway. Could that be my axels? 05 Acura tl
Everyone says oem for sure.
This is called I've never done anything but watched youtube videos. A fucking crescent wrench for an axle nut?!?! Jesus I thought I've seen it all. Ps they make pickle forks or ball join forks to break the ball joint free... lol
I’m experiencing a strong vibration during acceleration from 60-80mph. Inclined to believe it’s the CV axle/joint going bad. Seems like all the aftermarket axles don’t have the dynamic dampers that come on OEM ones. Did you feel any vibrations with the aftermarket axle?
This car is getting old and doesn't feel great over bumps in general, but I haven't noticed any difference with the aftermarket axle at all. If anything there is slightly less vibrations, which could be because the old one was cracking.
busted mine doing a burnout leaving the shop lol
hope you bent the backplate back
The hard part is getting the axle out u should show that
I did miss getting that part on film. We tried to explain around the 3:12 mark how we popped it out with that one crowbar. Without that angle of a bar it would have been rather difficult.
No worries I just popped this one out after about an hour of banging it
when you put the old axle beside the new one was it shorter? My son just got this axle and it is 2 inches shorter than the one off his 06 TL. This is the third time we have ordered in an axle and it is shorter. I am at a loss here.
Misskiminpink I think you have the wrong side
I believe they were the same length. Perhaps the joint inside the boot it out. I think that could stretch it out a bit. Otherwise it could be the wrong side like Kentavis mentions. For me it was Part # NCV36127 from Advance Auto. Part # NCV36128 is the front ride side of the car.
@@PaulPi3rce you are right, he installed it this morning and it was correct. The part inside the boot was stretched quite a bit.
Do you have ABS? I just put a new cv axle on and now have an abs light on and abs doesn't work.
I also looked at the part description and all of the aftermarket ones say they don't come with an abs tone ring... Anyone have similar issues?
Doesn't have a ring for abs on oem axle. Might be sign of your wheel bearing going out, or speed sensor cable got loose, torn, or failing.
The sensor is inside the wheel hub could be broken or dirty
Holly shit goes to show the stupid shit people do instead of just buying the socked to take the axle nut off 🤦🏻♂️ this is why I do shit myself cuz I know I’m doing it right instead of taking it to people have then do this kind of shit 🤦🏻♂️
I hope its only my cv axels
where did you get the axle? What brand
Advance Auto Parts. Part # NCV36127

How long should this job take?
Like any job the smallest of things can hold you up. I'd say about a 5 hour job being honest.
about 20mins its pretty simple with power tools
Im a carpenter and did it in my front yard took me 2 hours
@@PatrickGemme More like 6 hours with my wife interrupting me.
LoL 😂
Your supposed to have a intermediate axle on there not only will you have vibration issues due to that axle being so long, it will also majorly pull to one side when accelerating. That's what the intermediate axle is trying to eliminate. You know the axle that broke cheap skate. Ruin ride over something as little as $50. What a dummy
The intermediate shaft for the axel
Is only for the passenger side. Calling him a dummy and your the one wrong. The passenger side is farther from the trans so Honda put a intermediate shaft that the passenger side axel connects to.
