I first saw this I thought "Oh, that looks a lot like the Game "Blue Dragon". Looked into it, and it makes sense because both were done by Akira Toriyama.

Really love that a lesser known property got so much love and attention. So often anime games are usually just thrown out almost like licensed kids game. But they really went the extra mile here and the game is great.
Dragon Balls game have been really good lately, well, even then most of them are bangers.
It would be absolute heaven for me if they used this style for all main line Dragon Quest games.
I mean the ps2 dragon quest (8 i think) did it and the most recent installment did. I suppose not this degree tho if thats what you mean
@@WoodenClockwerk I meant more so I wish they would put that much more effort into the visuals like Sand Land did. DQ11 had a bit of style clash for me, when it came it’s a characters juxtaposed to their environments. Though it has a been a while since I’ve played it.

@@shonenfanboy1943They honestly should have waited longer to announce the DQ3 HD-2D remake. Iirc, when the remake was first shown off, it was an INCREDIBLY early build of the game.

This game is so good, and the style is one of the many things that makes it great. I really hope this game does well, we need more games like it.

Man now that they can do stuff like this and do it well I really really want to see them make another doctor slump game. Being able to walk around and explore penguin village would be a ton of fun
Need more of these games that push shading and stylization. Cel shaded games could look SO incredible now, and do in a lot of cases, but so many big budgets are focused on photo realism. Which while nice, shouldnt be the vast vast majority of major releases.
Imagine if the recent spiderman games went full cel shaded/stylized like the comic book suit or like spiderverse?

Fun fact the same effect shader thing was used in the one piece odyssey game. Not the exact same hatching thing but an effect applied on top of the engine itself like the hatching! I really like the procedurally generated effects like that too bring a game to life
Honestly the game is pretty fun! My only gripe is the very often repeating dialogues when having to wander the desert

The whole industry is living in the house that arcsys built these days but this is a unique approach.
Borderlands is also a pretty significant series with cel shading

I mean the art direction is amazing and the crosshatch effect in the shadows is nice and adds to it but it is a really basic thing to do on npr shaders. I would focus on the great designs more 😊

I bought the game as soon as I could and I’ve been loving it! Characters are great, the story presented keeps you engaged, and the gameplay (while rough in 2-3 areas which is rare now) the game simply works. Combat feels (for the most) part smooth whether it’s on foot, or in a vehicle. The sense of adventure exploring everything could be argued as generic busywork, but if the core gameplay keeps you that engaged, then what’s the problem? It’s a fantastic game!
Yeah, it's just fun to move on around, so it never feels boring.

I haven't played Sandland but I'm thinking of checking out the manga and the series, and I love how they've made its game look exactly like the manga, it was really clever.
The manga and anime are really great! I recommend you read and watch it.
This game is definitely in the higher echelon of anime games. They did a REALLY fucking phenomenal job with this title.
BEAUTIFUL GAME
I have to admit I had it wishlisted, but I had so a poor time with the Demo I kinda just removed it and moved on. But I'm hearing lots of better things about the game itself. Especially visually.
The upcoming Zelda game must have that.
Dragon Quest 11 already looks so charming so seeing this game up the ante on Toriyama styled cell shading is great.
Too bad JJK Cursed Clash or HxH Nen Impact can't get a smidgen of this care into their visuals.
I know it won't be the same without him, but i hope they keep making Toriyama's games

not to be a hater or anything, but it shouldn't be that surprising that Sand Lands is not getting that much attention.
People have to understand that despite the game looking nice and all--- most are fans of dragon ball, and not of Akira Toriyama and his other creations.
You'd think sand land would have gotten more attention as one of toriyama's last projects

So they learned how to use blender effects.
Visually it is without a doubt one of the most beautiful games that has come out in the last 10 years.
Gameplay wise though...It's just a real shame that the gameplay just isn't that good. Because that's where the effort really needs to be put when you make a game. I'll take stylized n64 era graphics with amazing gameplay 100% of the time over absolutely amazing beautiful graphics but forgettable gameplay.

Things like what you have pointed out are awesome to see but something about this game’s visuals just don’t do it for me, maybe the characters are just too cartoony for me

It’s unfortunate that the visual design of the characters clashes really hard with the art style of the world.
The characters feel out of place
Very very cool, we are only a couple years at more away from being able to completely generate our favourite manga as anime from scratch in less than a day - we might finally get a decent version of Berserk when I type "make Berserk into an Anime" into the AI prompt that achieves this.
I can't wait for the unbelievable amounts of creativity that will be unleashed, even if doing things manually will become a dying and forgotten art - we will need to find a balance to avoid a torrent of soul-less cash grabs, but it will still be an amazing time.
Imagine all the "what if" versions of fictions, including anime such as Dragonball, being turned into fully animated series overnight by an AI that can take a narrative structure as a prompt and create the entire alternative timeline version of the show as close to what it thinks the original creator would do within those structural constraints, meaning even the person making the prompt will get to experience a range of surprises as the AI tries to keep the original feel and still meet the request.
