- The night of 8 January 1994 is one that Barça fans that are old enough to remember will never forget. For younger fans, the 25th anniversary of that game is the perfect chance to learn a little bit more about the time when Barça blew Real Madrid off the Camp Nou park to the tune of a 5-0 victory.
The first of those five goals has gone down in history as one of the finest ever scored by the club. The side coached by Johan Cruyff were dominating the play but just couldn’t find the net until the 24th minute when future manager Pep Guardiola picked out Romario and the Brazilian’s 180 degree spin while dragging the ball with his instep is still regarded as the perfect example of what is known in the south of Europe as the ‘cow’s tail’ turn.
Buoyed by the electric home support of the Dream Team era, the goals then started flowing for the Catalans. Following a Ronald Koeman free-kick, Romario completed his hat-trick before Iván Iglesias rounded off the win.
That was the season when Deportivo looked like they were going to win their very first Liga title, but Barça snatched top spot on a dramatic final day.

I love Romario he is a legend.
To me romario is bigger than R9. I know a lot of people won't agree with me but the guy is the best traditional center forward there is. He didn't need the speed, his timing off the ball, positional awareness was enough and his dribbling was simple and effective, took you out of the game quickly and got the job done. He was always poised and seemed unaffected by everything around him like he was in hsi own zone. Absolute baller.

What a goal by Romario. That drag of the ball to trick the defender was pure class.
That first goal is just so absurd. So single footed, right towards the defender, then away from them with electric turn of pace and perfect outside of the foot placement. I prefer players to be able to play well with both feet, but my bias for that is just not relevant here as the skill and ability shown here is just marvelous.

That atmosphere was incredible, that's when the Barca ultras were at their height of superiority. Since Laporta became president in 2003 that atmosphere died. I used to love going to games with my pals in Boixos Nois. It was incredible, I'll never forget those times.

He is right, for us brazilians Romário is better than Ronaldo. Only for you europeans its the other way around because Romário doesnt want to play in Europe anymore after the WC 1994. Besides that, even Ronaldo has scored more goals in WC 2002 he had Ronaldinho and Rivaldo playing with him so Romario won the WC 1994 almost by himself. After he came back to Brasil he was Champion of Brasil and South American Cup and the top scorer of all brazilian leagues even became the top scorer of the brazilian league with 40 years old.

Romário was the better player, he just didnt gave a fuck to Europe, he proved himself pretty good in Europe and after been the best player of the 1994 WC carrying Brazil to the title he decided to comeback to play in his hometown... And in the 90's the Brazilian was as good as any european league, dont your remember São Paulo destroying Barcelona and Milan??
Romário is not viewed the same as Ronaldo because he played for the most part in an era before the spetacle of globalization, and because he prefered to play in Brazil...
But as a player he was at least as good as Ronaldo, we brazilians more than anybody knows that 👍🏼
