Hi Justin , Rock band of Brazil here :) any good ? Velvet Underground ? Lou Reed ? Bowie ?

Thanks for answering my question, Justin. You have good taste, I'm happy to hear the lovely original 1966 wood paneling is still there! 🙂
🤔 Where does he field such questions... in case I ever have one. I met him once a few years ago, and he was the kindest, nicest person... I delivered him a pizza lol 😂
@@WitchyWagonReal Here in the comments 🙂 Mention it's for Comments Day and just go ahead and ask 🙂
Aw, lucky you!!! 🙂Always be nice to people who bring you food 😀
I'd imagine performing on stage as an energetic frontman is one of the best workouts anyone could get. I've seen the splits 👍😆
Wow, Love/Hate. Loved listening to them back in the day. Wasted in America is a classic and the cover art was awesome as well.
Ooooh I like comments day.
Such a great channel, not many busy people take the time to do this. ⭐️
Jellyfish! What a band, absolutely brilliant
This is the best channel ever. Pure magic every single time ❤
The Cardiacs were awesome, absolutely mesmerising live, RIP Tim Smith
Loaded six string on my back… I see what you did there!
The Cult are amazing! and their singer, Ian Astbury, sounds like Freddie Mercury!
I had the true pleasure and honour of singing on stage with The Darkness at the sound check for their Perth show in ‘22. It was the greatest moment of my life! Thank you so much to Justin and everyone else in the band for being so supportive and making this little boy’s dream come true. Any chance of a reprise at this Thursday’s gig in Freo…?
Nice Love/Hate plug. I think this is the first time I've heard someone referencing them as influential. Love it! 💛🤘🤙✌️
Last night I found myself going through almost 6 months ( so far) of your videos and making a playlist of all the reaction songs. So far has been awesome and has opened my eyes and ears to some excellent new tunes. #eargasmic keep up the great work.
I really like this channel.. The Darkness music too, just discovered it once again! Thank you Justin! Very uplifting..
As an old boomer who loves your channel...
You say Queen influenced everyone. Their major influence was Mott the Hoople - ask Roger T- originals who were brash, talented, democratic (as a band), dressed wonderfully and rocked, and with their marionettes.
Queen were their warmup band even for their "first band to play Broadway"stint.
True superstars *which they made fun of..
Enjoy your shows so much and appreciate all the great music you bring attention to.
Great advice on being present. Will try to apply that to my daily work life
Love/Hate gets a mention!! I wasn't expecting that, awesome!
Pub Rock. I love that! And I'd love to have a pint with Justin and Brian Johnson 🤘🏻
Ahhhhh! I'm so glad to hear you site Aerosmith as an early influence. They are one of mine as well, and most do not mention them. Cheers!

Delighted to hear the two most obscure acts in my Top 10, Cardiacs and Jellyfish, on your list
Ahh! The Cult, I've seen them 4 times and it's absolutely amazing every time
I bet, ian seems charming AF.
Particularly humorous today Justin. Made me smile.
6:20 Feels like he sold himself short a wee bit here with that answer. From what I’ve gathered from watching this channel (2 years in March!) he’s quite active beyond the show stuff with the running and weight workouts combined with a good diet. It does sound & look like he steps it up a bit before going on tour, but it looks like he does enough everyday to keep up those good looks and svelte, yet muscular physique.
Puts me to shame, that's for sure 😅
yep, me too, haha!
Jellyfish! Awesome band!
Hearing you shout out Cardiacs is great. So ahead of their time and just superbly intriguing music
Thank you 😊
Yesssss Queen greatest band ever, nobody else come close.
My musical interest/journey/influences?
1. Six White Boomers - Rolf Harris
2. Country Roads - John Denver (am radio)
3. Sweet City Woman - Stampeders (am radio)
4. Bitch Is Back - Elton John , my brother got the 45
5. And When I Die - Blood Sweat and Tears (K-Tel compilation album).
6. Help - Beatles (fell in love with Ringo!)
7. Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon & Garfunkel
8. Another Brick In The Wall - Pink Floyd
9. Sweet Dreams - Eurythmics
10. Careless Whisper - Wham (fell in lust with George Michael, lol)
11. Van Halen, Zeppelin, The Doors, all the classics
12. Big Wreck - all day, all the time
13. First heard about The Darkness and it's charismatic front man!
He lists Love/Hate. The man has taste.
Great to hear Love/Hate getting a shout out!
Great to hear Love/Hate as an early band. Blackout in the Red Room / Wasted in America up there with the best concurrent albums in my humble opinion. Love your shizzle.
Awesome... Love that you mention Love/Hate!!! They're one of the bands that are part of the soundtrack to my life. Were you at UEA in '92? Surely you forgot to say The Black Crowes as well didn't you?
For the next comments day: Would you consider and be interested in collaborating with Elizabeth Zharoff (aka The Charismatic Voice) on something a la Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé? And further to that, I'd be intrigued by your version of an "Exercises In Free Love" type thing - you've got the voice, talent and creativity for it!
First time I’ve heard you mention Love/Hate (I think 🤔). Would love to hear a nostalgic 90s deep-dive into their first two albums…
Blackout in the Red Room is a masterpiece
Thank you for answering my question, Justin! :) Since I recently turned 29 ;-) it's about time to carry some guitars and amps and become a rock star to preserve my youth and beauty. Wish me luck on the last one!
And also thank you for improving my English.
Just saw The Darkness last night in my home town of Canberra Australia and i cannot tell you how much it meant to me to see you guys live. Me and my sister were just kids when Permission to Land came out but that whole album has been a core memory for both of us. So grateful to have been able to celebrate 20 years of our favourite childhood album. I hope you enjoyed Australia and come back real soon! Was there a particular show in Aus that was better than the rest for you guys?
I'm surprised The Sweet (due to their vocals) wasn't an early influence for you. Just found your channel a few weeks ago, and enjoying the videos!
Love your podcast Justin, always a pleasure and it's making me listen to lots of music I wouldn't have tried before. I wonder what you would think of the new Peter Gabriel release? Maybe one for a future episode.
Mr. Hawkins!! First things first, I’ve always been a huge fan of your and The Darkness’ music, but since finding your channel I’ve been able to discover new bands, explore more music, and learn bits of music theory, so thank you!!
I also wanted to ask if you would react to “Gone or Staying” by Sleep Theory. They’re a new up and coming band that’s a mix of bluesy rock, metalcore, and R&B. I think you’d like them!
Always good to hear Cardiacs name-checked, a criminally underrated band.
It's a dire shame that they existed in relative obscurity, given that they were one of the most innovative bands of their generation and Tim Smith (RIP) was a prodigious musical talent, to an extent which surely earned him the title of genius.
Hear hear! This is the third video I heard Justin mention Cardiacs, they are obviously close to his heart ❤
Wow 🤯Wow 🤯 czcams.com/video/M954FUmeD3M/video.html@@berend_dijk
Hey man. I think you're pretty rad. That's it. Cheers!
Hey Justin, you have to check out this proper Rock n Roll band that recently came out "The Commoners" Obviously influenced by Humble Pie and Black Crowes but they keep releasing killer single after killer single.
Justin Hawkins is the man
Thanks guys
Thanks Justin for being such an inspiration your music has stood out from all others and your personal influence in life has helped me tremendously. "Is it just me or Am I on my own again" 😉 🎸🤘
Oooh I never expected to hear the Cardiacs mentioned! I mainly went to see them live because a friend of mine was in the band before being in the wildhearts, but it was a decent gig. Tim had his health issues and I am going to the memorial gig in a few months, maybe you will be there....
Justin, I listen 2 radio stations, mainly Qi❤104.3fm classic rock & WUSB 90.1fm when they play classic rock. But I must say I love all genres of beautiful music. My dad taught me an appreciation of Italian arias, ei Puccini & Verdi. Your vocal ability is astonishing. It is what caught my ears many years ago. I love to sing. I love to entertain people, make them laugh & enjoy their having fun. Barbara Ann
Been a long time fan since I first heard the darkness... And thought we were finally getting a true good revival of '70s '80s rock that seem to have been lost for so long. First time commenting but then a subscriber for a while now of your channel. If I'm a post then inquiry for the next go around... As a musician what are your thoughts on modelers as opposed to playing the real tube amps live? Have you ever tried using modelers live? Thanks so much
Comments day is my fave 🥰
Questions:
1) What do you mean when you say “see you on the ice”?
2) Is there a particular band that you haven’t played with before that you would like to play with (meaning playing the same show, not necessarily actually playing with, but that could be two different questions if there’s a band you would like to join onstage for a song or two, like Bush and Jerry Cantrell will be doing this summer)?
Last question: who is your all time favourite band to go see live?
Big fan from Canada here !! Upon First Hearing the Darkness years ago, I was taken aback by the Layered Vocals and Harmonies. This style took me Back to my Young years in the 70's were British Super Groups played continuously on the radio. I believe The Darkness sounds like a Re-incarnated Version of The Sweet , with some Queen and T-Rex added for good Measure. Thanks Justin for being a Great Musician !
I seen AC/DC in 1976 at the Caley cinema on Lothian Road, Edinburgh. Songs played were Livewire, The Jack, It's a long way to the top, etc with Angus, Bon and the rest of the boys in great form.
Justin, love your channel I appreciate your mention of Jellyfish and Love Hate!!! Cheers:)
I write this as a fan of music and of the charisma and creativity of the man, Justin Hawkins. I can't help but wonder, As prolific a songwriter he is, does he write songs that we will never hear but that still are significant to him on a personal level?
I'm into mid century modern too. Think we're both 48. Thanks grandma. Who knew. Destined for dumpster. Glad I rescued. All comes back around
The Cult and Love/Hate - awesome taste. Love/Hate were so energetic live. Saw them at the Astoria London, was an great show.
So glad he mentioned Love/Hate. I thought Blackout in the Red Room was the career start of one of the world’s great rock bands. Sadly not to be
@@glenncoleman6253 Yes was such a shame they didn't make it big. Dizzy was playing in London the other month but I missed it. I still play their music.
I'm going to the Canberra gig on February 9th. I also got my business class v.i.p experience 👍 rock on 🤘
I just got a wee buzz when you mentioned Love/Hate!
Yeah! Clink the lick, that's what I always say. Nice one Justin! 🎶⭐👍
Id love to see a video on the playings of steve hackett. Amazing player
One of my favourite things to do is to walk around the house randomly singing your theme jingle and getting it into other people's heads...😂
Yuh, lol. You need to really pull from the BeeGees.
I so want to have this guy over for drinks to listen to and analyze music, followed by getting out the guitars and keyboards and jamming.
I think the word you were looking for was "omnipresent". It was right on the tip.
Jellyfish is so great in a multi-layered Queen referencing way
Creedence Clearwater Revival was my first experience of consuming real music (not kid stuff) back in 1977. They set the tone, sort of. My first music! 🙂
Me too :) czcams.com/video/M954FUmeD3M/video.html
Mine was Elton John, in the very early seventies (Tumbleweed Connection, Don’t Shoot Me, and Madman). It got me playing piano, though hearing Für Elise scratched that itch first.
@@SuziQ. Was it on vinyl, too, or through the radio? I still have that CCR vinyl I got as a seven year old, more scratches than music now 😀
I admire anyone who can play an instrument. My talents lay not in that direction, but in visual art and writing. Musicians are wizards in my eyes, the good kind 🙂
@@MariaFrancesca ,
They’re on vinyl, and I still have them, all scratched up.
I haven’t played piano in years, though. My piano instructor took all of the fun out of it by forcing me to play music she liked, which happened to be soundtracks from musicals. Somehow, my sister got to learn how to play Für Elise, and I didn’t. I gave up playing after several years. 😢
I’ve been working in visual arts for most of my adult life. I wrote one piano concerto when I was 11, and write a rock song every 10 years (when I get a melody in my head; I’ve never written lyrics). I can “Weird Al” a lot of songs, though, but the original writer already set the cadence. 😂
@@SuziQ. There's something about the sound of an old scratchy vinyl 🙂 I have to find an old record player again.
Ouch, bad teachers really can destroy so much!!
I can write lyrics (never said I can write good ones, though 😅) but I couldn't put music to them for the life of me.
Funny what kind of combinations of talents you will develop in life...
Justin, could you please react to The Shadows doing Apache live in 1960? I'd never seen something so damn cool as that. Do you like The Shadows? I bet ya do.
Hey Justine Hawkins! I just started following you today, literally, after the Lemon Twigs video of you reacting to Golden Years popped up in my suggestions. I was wondering if you’ve ever heard of a singer by the name Neal Francis? I love his music, and I think you would like him too! It’d be super cool if you did a video on him! Hope you have a good rest of your day :)
Love/Hate!!! One of the most underrated bands of all time. "Blackout" and "Wasted" are incredible albums!!
Thank you for your channel, Justin, you make me want to be a better musician. Your theme tune has the same kind of dreamy, melancholic aesthetic as a couple of old movie theme songs I enjoy playing from busker books; Golden Earrings (from the movie with Marlene Dietrich) and Boulevard of Broken Dreams (not the Green Day song or Tony Bennett's version!). I'm not really into the James Bond franchise but I reckon The Darkness could do a brilliant theme track, in the vein of Live and Let Die. Cheers :)
'28' and looks into camera. Superb comedy chops!
I love your content Justin! I think you'd really enjoy a band called Dead Poet Society. Please consider them for your next reaction video
Life is the most important study.❤
Every days a skool day
Hi Justin, what did you think of Terrorvision? I remember watching them in a tent at a music festival in Brighton in the 90s and they were great fun. The whole tent was bouncing!
Hi Justin. I still find it difficult to believe that I was pretty much unaware of The Darkness until I saw Elizabeth Zharoff's reaction to y'all a while back. I now consider A Thing Called Love to be, in terms of things I like listening to, a peer of Roundabout, Life on Mars, Kashmir, Chop Suey! and Bohemian Rhapsody. Not bad for a piece I've heard you self deprecatingly call "simple."
2 important Questions.. Will the Darkness be playing in Canada (hopefully Toronto) for the 20th Anniversay Permission to land Tour? And I really wanted to purchase Welcome to the Darkness blu Ray but it shows that it only is for Region 2 on your Website.. Is there a way to get one that plays in North America legally so that you can get paid for it.. I really hope you see the Questions, Thank You Justin
Loved hearing NiN but would have liked to hear Sisters of Mercy on your list.
Impeccable music taste Justin!
Queen is omnipresent and their music is omnipotent.
See you all on the ice in March…❤
I was just wandering if you like the ramones or did they influence you in anyway 😊
My favorite The Darkness album is:
"One Way Ticket To Hell... And Back"
Hi. Question for comments day. What do you think about support bands buying onto a tour and would you use a "buy-on" support act? Is this happening only in America or a worldwide thing?
I know it’s never going to happen, but I wish you could cover my bands song and video Red Paint by Glass Grave, a metal band from Brighton. I’m from Derby but we’re from Brighton so so much you’ve said about you almost going to a jazz school there and you covering Architects and Ren is like home for me. I’d just be interested to see what you say and what kind of things you would pick up on musically that we may have achieved but will always be overlooked as we’re new and not that popular, would be an actual dream though it will never happen, really been thinking about it a lot. Either way everything you do on your channel is like everything I live for, I love all music conversation and I love all the details you talk about from pop and queen etc to metal I love it all but being in a metal band it’s so cool to see you bands like sleep token etc who are just the best in the game and my favourite band in metal. Love you man, hope you’re enjoying life as much as I enjoy your videos.
Justin dude don’t describe your fame as momentary omg! You’ve got a couple of the biggest rock hits in British history, with many many many more underrated classics. Genuinely one of the best British rock bands of all time ❤
Hey there Justin! Fantastic podcasts and videos long may it continue!
Questions for next comments day...
• How do you handle creative differences or challenges within your band or with collaborators?
• How do you decide when a song or piece of music is finished and ready for the audience?
• What tools, software, or instruments do you find essential in your songwriting?
Okay so you might want to pick one and role with it... cheers in advance. X
Good questions! 👌
I've often wondered about your question #1.
I'd be willing to bet it's gotten better with his sobriety.
I'm curious. I hope he answers.
I’d be interested on your thoughts of “martyr” or “invisible enemy” by August burns red.
06:26...🤣🤣🤣🤣
Your face speaks more than a 1000 words 😂😂😂😂
He has a face for radio you mean 😊
@@djwarren5081 Incorrect...😏
No, he’s slightly offended (or pretending to be offended) by “a certain age”.
A “face made for radio” = too ugly for video, which Justin is not.
Queen is just the best music.
Plain and simple. Their fame sometimes seems to overshadow their musical merit. They are on another level from anyone else
The fact that you mention Jellyfish as an influence makes me very happy… should be way more famous than they are… keep on keeping on, great stuff! How about you go back and review old albums sometimes too? Start with Bellybutton v Spilt Milk, which is better huh? Oh and there’s not 2448 Ian stevens before me, I’m the 1
Every time I like a band/song on his channel Justin always gives the head to the sky IDK reaction like you can tell he’s being nice but he’s not liking it 😂
not the best taste . .poor Justin.
Justin, are you familiar with Canadian Prog Rock 3 piece band RUSH? They started in the 70's and were together 40 plus years.
Justin Fucking Hawkins Rides Againnnnn!!! 🎸🎶🎶🕺🏽
Grow up, and stop posting the same thing on every video
@@sieg11fulit's a comments section. Not a comments you like section. Get over yourself
lol chill out people
@@TheKingOfBeans lol. I know, I know. But saying that on every video might bring some simple joy to that dude's day.
You know how you listen to a song too much and you get sick of it? Doesn’t really apply to “love is only a feeling” which is destroying my car speakers the second I get in and drive anywhere and probably played 4 times over 😂🤙🤘
Been a darkness fan 20 years!! 🥳 come to Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Jellyfish!!!! Surprised, but I shouldn’t be. Love it.
Give Love/Hate a listen, as they were a very special band with a powerful and unique sound. Glam metal featured some excellent musicians among the utter crap that came late to the genre, and Love/Hate belongs in the upper tier with Tesla, Dokken, Cinderella, Ratt, Kix and early Motley Crue!
There's many reasons why you're so beloved... and there's so much of that in this ordinary video. You give the love back. 😆
Houses... and concrete. Concrete is one of the all time great Darkness tunes. Since and forever, whenever I even see concrete... I think of it, and emperor penguins, too I spose. Lot's of people mention She's just a girl, Eddie (...though not many mention it's Jam sound 🤔) but for me it's Concrete... and I so love when you play it live. 😍
@@WitchyWagonReal Oh, someone else who loves that song!! One of my favorites. The singing in that one gives me goosebumps!
@@MariaFrancesca We never see concrete the same! 🥰
@@WitchyWagonReal Ha ha, no, he has elevated the material 🙂
@@MariaFrancesca Reminds me to ask you:
Am I the only one who finds Street Spirit the greatest version of that song? I think the original is just mopey poopy pants whining... but the Darkness take the tune, flip the script, caffeinate the shit out of it, and make it a viable song. Not something one sees often with covers... but I dig 1000x more than the original. And Justin's over the top falsetto just makes the whining melodrama it funny and cool. 🤣
I dunno... but I love rock bands with the cheeky attitude, that play it straight... the Dwarves, Turboneger, the Hellacopters most notably.
When are you going to write the FULL Justin Hawkins Rides Again theme song?
Did those bands also inspire you to play Les Paul? What is it that makes you like it so much? I never got used to it. Explorer style bodies sit so much better on the lap 😅
You meet Rick Parfitt before he sadly died on Christmas 2016. Did Quo any impact on you especially the Piledriver to Blue for You period..?
Yea dude, ya hit the nail right on the head re queen.
They could genre surf.
But you need to include that genre surfing is only half the battle, what made em epic is what they picked, and how they gradually matured those choices and distilled them into a new genre, i really feel like you guys can do that now, just gotta allow the sound to switch gears as you all do too.
Albums are always attempts at perfection, emphasis on attempts, chances are you never fully get it no matter who you are but the sincerity in the attempt is unmistakable.
Ps - bloody hoffs back 🙄
🤣
