- If you were growing up in the mid '90s like I was, there were a few albums that transcended any form of genre or culture to become part of something bigger - part of life. The Score was one of those albums. The Fugees, consisting of Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Pras Michel, went on to win two Grammys and The Score went platinum twice over. At the center of this trio is today's guest. Not only is the man who can be held responsible for the creation of this super group (Pras discovered Lauryn Hill in high school in South Orange, New Jersey) a seasoned performer and writer, but he is also an acclaimed documentary filmmaker, philanthropist, and yes, even a serious watch collector. I met this dude once, and commented on his watch. I wanna say he was wearing a Patek. He was really nice and took a moment to talk his watches with me. Really nice dude, not arrogant or obnoxious at all.
"I had about close to 180 watches, then I started to get really serious..." Dude what?
I think by this he meant he narrowed his taste down. Instead of just buying a ton of stuff, he became more discerning about what he liked personally

The diamonds on that AP look amazing ! In my opinion thats how a diamond watch is supposed to look. Its classy and elegant and not tacky like most out there
It's not tasteless, or uninteresting. I think the point of these videos is to highlight that different collectors are into different watches. This man just has a different taste and a different outlook on watches. I loved this one the same way I loved the others!
Never thought I'd see someone refer to an Audemars Piguet tourbillon as an "everyday watch." I always imagined that pieces like that would just sit in a safe most of the time; great to see that some people aren't afraid to use them as they were meant to be used!

"Talking Watches" is the absolute best horology feed there is...it captures the emotion and community of watch collectors and stirs the hearts of would-be collectors!! Can't tell you how much I look forward to these. You've dine a super job keeping it diverse, funny, interesting and informative. Love love love your videos. Not on that Patel level yet, but since I've started following Hodinkee, I've bought Rolex and a Panerai...working towards the holy grail!!

I enjoyed this episode. Glad to see diversity in the watch-collecting world, and by that I mean diversity in taste.
Absolutely amazing collection. I have to say, probably one of my favourite celebrity collections. The fact that he knows and was looking for a Patek Skymoon is a statement in itself. He's really looking at some amazing collectors pieces.
So this is what happened to Pras from the Fugees! Quite a success story.

+Benedict San Diego he actually has good tastes compared to other artists who walk around with 18 k yellow gold diamond studded bs watches that they buy just because they can. If I was making that kind of money I would be doing the same thing collecting Patek, AP, FP Journe, etc. I would also be collecting old Omegas just because I love them more specifically the early Railmasters.
+bassplayer2011ify Most real collectors I know collect Rolex, Omega, Patek, Jaeger lecoultre and other conservative brands. I myself don't have a Patek and Jaeger, but I would like to have one someday; but I think i'll never get an AP sports watch, too oversized and funky for me.
I too love the Railmasters, Really simplistic and traditional.

lucas santoro lol fair, but it's the exception that proves the rule if only 1 of his 40 has diamonds...he's also pointing out that it's not a yellow gold Rolex with diamond dial, diamond bezel, and diamond bracelet, so in the situations he wears it- it would be relatively understated.

This is my favorite episode. Completely different style than any of the old boys club collectors we usually see interviewed. This episode depicts a serious collector without the same old redundant white man. @Hodinkee, you need to showcase some more of these less traditional watch collectors. Easy way to expand your target market.

I have a few hobbies and I collect quite a few things including cameras, watches and pens and i must say that the most OG collectors I've met have always come off as the most humble and nerdy and they surprisingly dress like us regular people. Their knowledge and enthusiasm speaks for them.

All I did was to give my opinion and made two comments about what I felt about the poor content of the video.
This channel is probably the best in CZcams about vintage watches and Horology.

Haha this didn’t age well! Shows the bad and very dark side of watch collecting. I think I really enjoyed this interview at the time but right now I realize that he actually doesn’t care about the watches themselves that much as he talks about them like they were Seikos and Swatches. Recent events have put this collection in a completely different light.
