  • There is a small handful of vintage watch collectors in this world that can truly be called "market-makers." John Goldberger is one of them. Another is the 45-year-old, tan-skinned, silver-haired gentleman you are about to meet. Alfredo Paramico is a true insider, and has long been considered one of the top watch buyers on the planet. Remember that unique platinum Patek Philippe Bulletin Chronometer that sold for $3,992,858 in November of 2012? You know, the watch that actually beat the Eric Clapton owned platinum 2499 in the same sale? Yes, Alfredo bought that. A 1518 in steel? He's owned one of those, too. This is your chance to go inside the collection of a true connoisseur. This is Talking Watches with Alfredo Paramico. For the full story, go to www.hodinkee.co...

    That's why Italy is regarded as the birthplace of style. You don't even need to listen to him talk about his passion of collecting watches and you get the sense that this man has taste. Alfredo is such a gentleman who apparently know how to spend money on watches unlike some guys from the word of sport or music (for example). No diamonds, no fancy (kitschy) Hublot, Franch Muller, Rolex and other posing brands. This is probably the best collection ive ever seen and i guess its just a 10% of his collection.

      @@sirjohnsnowflakejr.3736 Rolex is the main 'posing' brand. I like Rolex, but they are. People who come into money, don't really know much about watches, but want people to think they do, they'll buy a Rolex. I'm not knocking Rolex here, they make great watches, but that is the downside of being so popular. I doubt Rolex see it as a downside.

    • @TomasLonga
      @TomasLonga Před 5 lety +2

      Fully agree with you. Rolex is the "entry level" into serious watches and for most of us, it was the first serious watch. From there are only two roads. One to PP, VC, JLC, ALS and AP or the other way to Richard Mille, Hublot and other travesty brands.

No massive gold and diamond pieces, just an eye for aesthetics, proportions & historical importance.

    The watch Mr Alfredo Paramico dreams about is Patek Philippe stainless steel monopusher doctor’s chronograph with pulsometer dial and sector design, as well as an aged off-white silvered dial. Only two such watches were ever made, both for a South American retailer, with the other currently residing in the Patek Philippe museum in Geneva. It was sold for $4,987,383 (£3,204,633.61), which is a world record for any watch cased in stainless steel.

    Whoa, the dude just picks up the guy's AP and starts winding it. To me a watch is quite personal... kind of like a mobile phone. You can't just pick up someone's and start messing with it!
    Great video though. Thank you!

      He does this with everyone's watches. I'm sure Ben is clued in enough to know when it's ok or not. Plus the watch was made to be wound.

    So some time has passed and it turns out that The rumors were true and Patek did make a two toned 1518 in pink gold for King Michael of Romania.

  • @Theo-ul8qm

    If anyone is wondering, it seems that the 1518 that King Michael of Romania owned was not 2-tone, but full rose gold. Still probably a super valuable watch.
    P. S. I've watched this video probably dozens of times, and I still can't tell what Alfredo is saying about the rarity and condition of the 3 time-only watches 😅

    What an interview- his ‘special Omega’ is the very first chrono ever produced by Omega. *head falls off* Yes. The very first.
    Special Omega indeed.
