This was a amazing episode! What a story about his fathers piece.....
the story about that omega is what makes watch collecting watch collecting. Beautiful
i wonder if the same guy who looted his place is the same one sold him the watch;
almost definitely not. 99.9% it won't have been. It was a 20 year gap for a start, doubt the burglar held on it for twenty years. Secondly, people who burgle peoples homes want the cash value for the things they've stolen quickly. They will have sold it right away. Highly doubt the person who burgles houses is going to appreciate a watch like that much to wear it for 20 years :)
@@ronoccc yeah most likely they pawned the watch off right away. If that was my watch I would have gone around all the pawn shops for weeks hoping it would show up. Amazing he found it again but that’s the beauty of the internet.
I had to pause the video to let the story sink in because his story gave me chills.
That is an incredible story with that Omega and his dad. It's awesome that he was able to find it again
The story behind that chronostop really got me. I'd be devastated if i ever lose my old mans piece.
Aradhana Raditya I would feel the same way. It's the watch I wear the most.
After 20 years the person who was selling the watch may not have been the person who stole the watch. It was probably in a pawn shop a few hours after the burglary and who knows how many different people owned the watch during that time. Also, statute of limitations in most states are 3-5 years so even if the person selling it was the same one who stole it, there's nothing he can do about it.
he just wanted it back.
@@MT-kx2uc Why not?
My father got a gold Corum when he retired. It is engraved on the back. I inherited it. I never wear it because I would be devastated if I damaged it and it’s a very fragile watch.
The story about his fathers Omega was absolutely incredible. Amazing what is possible with the internet nowadays. I can't even imagine the feeling he got when he was able to reunite with that piece!
I teared up. I could feel the emotion in Alton's voice as he spoke about that Omega.
What an interesting guest. Ben is the best interviewer-especially because he knows when to talk and when to listen.
Oh, man. His story about losing his father's watch really hit home. My apartment was broken into and I lost my knife collection. My dad had passed down knives older than him to me. I hope I will get them back some day. This really hit me hard.
That's how it's done.. personal stories about watches. Not look at this super ultra expensive watch I got.
He had a few super expensive watches
Garry Perkins you look like sergey karjackin
100% Agree.
His watches are very expensive...
@@shadowblack1987 his point being the watches had significance in his life instead of him just flaunting his wealth. Everyone on this show is rich
From the bottom of my heart Hodinkee, you made my day!
Hodinkee... do one with a "Seiko collector".
Really enjoyed this. The Omega story was deep! Talk about fate!!!
I was gonna say the same thing!
h@@SDPTheGhost
I can't count how many times I've watched Good Eats and paused, rewind and paused again just to try to catch what watch he was wearing. Funny cooking show with a dash of watch style. Gotta love it.
Amazing episode! I am a HUGE Alton Brown fan! Thanks Hodinkee!
Hands down my favorite episode. Legendary story about finding his dad's watch on EBay after two decades of absence.
The story about re-finding his Dads watch is Amazing! Loved all the pieces in his collection! Great episode!!
Alton Brown can pretty much talk about anything and captivate anyone who is listening. Love when he talks about food and now I love when he talks about watches.
Absolutely stunning episode. Thank you. I don't think I've ever seen a collection of watches with such character. And that Omega story ... O.O Amazing. Well done everyone.
That's a crazy story about that Omega, really awesome that he got it back 20 years later.
Yes, one of my favorite people ever. His live show is incredible
Haven't found a passion of Alton's yet , that I don't share....and this is no exception. Excellent!
Thank you for bringing this back. Your entire fan base has been waiting for it.
Revisiting this episode and I forgot how much I loved it...loved it.
Very cool! Wish it was longer!
Really cool to see that Pacman in his collection! What an amazing story about his Dad's Omega. Great interview! Thank you, Hodinkee!
This is my favorite episode of all.
Truly special.
Amazing and such a moving story behind a very nice timepiece... Watches with stories are what make the collection so meaningful.
Finally... a good episode.. sigh of relieve. Thank you.
I love these - this had excellent chemistry. Alton is such an articulate person too!
I just found your videos, this and the interview with Jack Nicklaus was exceptional. I look forward to watching the rest.
Wow absolutely one of the best. Watched with my wife... she likes his shows. The father watch was very touching. Great job guys
Good lord; first John Mayer and now Alton Brown? And they're both geeking out over watches? Where the hell has this channel been all my life that I'm discovering it only now? Um, yeah: subbed.
Very insightful collector--idea of patina, aging of watches, scuffing, scratches, as a plus is a unique contribution to collecting watches--never explicitly advocated before--brilliant.
Yes! MORE OF THIS PLEASE!
Bravo, a wonderful episode. To be reunited with his late fathers watch must have been very emotional for him. Sad story/happy ending.
His dad Omega is beautiful. Amazing story around that watch. Miraculous, even.
really enjoyed the episode. The story about getting his watch back that was his dads was a great addition.
Enjoyed every second. And what an awesome collection!
I really enjoyed this video. Alton has so much life experience and the application of that into the story for each timepiece is refreshing.
Great talking watches episode. These are some great pieces!
Best episode yet. Love the story about Alton's dad.
Ok, teared up a bit when he refound his dad's watch! Great story!
I have a Tudor Snowflake and it has a cyclops. Can't remember if they were ever sold without??
Back in the day you could request them with or without, new or during servicing
That one line on the sub looks great. If only many didn't feel the need to write a novel on their dials these days.
And what an amazing story of his father's watch!
8:25 Brutal honesty. A very nice collection and fun interview.
That story about his dad’s watch.. awesome ending to the story. Very cool episode.
Very cool. Loved that story about his father's watch.
That's the thing about watches. Its the story behind each piece. That Omega was just the icing on top. I would have loved to know what tag heuer model my dad had when I was young and got stolen when our house got broken in to. I will never forget that day.
I've always loved Alton ever since Good Eats. Fantastic interview!
Watching back on this mainly for the story of his father's piece, but now I really am interested in how many good-condition Nivada Grenchen Deathmasters are out there with box and papers. Such a beautiful piece and rare to see in someone's collection. One of the best episodes to this day.
“Can you even tell time?” Lol I love it
Wow the father story regarding the Omega watch is truly beautiful. So glad the guy got it back can you imagine the elation when he actually had it in his hands again.....
Alton is a national treasure. I'm glad he got his father's watch back!
I thought I was really starting to get into watches and starting to be very knowledgable
Until I watched this...
Then I rewatched the episode where John Meyer was interviewed
It confirmed everything
I have much MUCH to learn'
And I love it. Such a diverse world, watch collecting ❤️
I want to thank you for interviewing Alton. I am a fan since the beginning of Good Eats and it is still my favorite show. If you have seen the show you get to see his collection in use. Many omegas and Rolex come to mind. He has got a lot more so it would not hurt to have a follow up interview in the near future.
Hodinkee posts videos I didn't know I wanted but can't live without
Great episode, I was watching re runs of Good Eats, while doing so I spotted a Tag Monaco and it peaked my interest. Little did I know Alton was a fellow watch nerd. All the best.
Great interview I really LOVED the story about how he found his Dad’s watch on EBay That was PRICELESS Thank you
Always noticed his watched on his shows. Great interview!
So pleased u got your dads watch back what a nice story! ,
Very cool episode, I was surprise not to see some funky vintage chronographs though. Perhaps a part 2 is in order? :)
Congratulations a very nice episode, thank you and regards
god I love alton so much. Glad he got his father's time piece back.
Wow, that story about the Omega!!! Amazing!
What an amazing story about his dad's piece :)
One of my favorite shows with one of my favorite tv personalities!!! LIKE.
Amazing story about his father’s watch.
I’ve seen episodes where Alton is wearing a Tag Heuer Monaco.
Talking Watches with Eric Clapton, please!
@Steve Knight
I appreciate the sound quality though!
Hi-fi.
To loosely quote Alan Parsons,
"Music lovers use their stereo to listen to music. An audiophile uses their music to listen to their stereo"
I'm about 50/50. I love music, but I also own a lot of records because they sound amazing, even if the music isn't my favourite.
The best though, naturally, is great music that also sounds excellent.
I guess most people thing good sound is saturated bass and loud, compressed bullshit.
A lot goes into proper sound, and proper reproduction of that quality through quality components.
It is a wonderful experience to hear music in all its depth. To have imaging and soundstage.
Close your eyes and 'see' where every instrument is. How close and how far back, how far left, or right.
Clapton, while not everything is my taste, is excellent recording, mix, mastering. You want it to sound like the performance is in your listening room. You should never hear the music coming from your speakers. Two speakers should entirely disappear and create a virtual 3D stage.
@Blaine Konkel Wow, that was very disrespectful
@Judge Steve Dude was coked out of his mind at that show. Not excusing it, just looks like you need some context. Plus look at the man he's been last 30 years. The man's a gentleman and a great person. Dude's changed, he messed up in the 70's. 44 years ago, he regrets the hell out of it, and has actually taken steps to make himself a better person
Watches, food, science... I love that he and I share the same multi-nerd intersectionality. He's rich and famous, though, so that makes me special.
I don't know the process, if guests contact you or the other way around, but this episode is probably my favorite so far. I'm a big AB fan and was super excited to see he's a watch guy, but not at all surprised to see his fondness for tool watches.
Great return to the fold on the Omega. I always like Alton, he seems genuine.
This was an awesome interview! The story about finding his dad's watch online....wow! One of your best yet.
Awesome segment. Back In The day Alton combined my love for science and food all in one funky show. And now I’m into watches and so is he.. kinda funny.
This was great. Thanks for sharing.
great episode!!
now, I challenge you. Hodinkee to pump these out.. at least a few a month, PLEASE!!
Amazing episode, i also hope to give a few pieces to my son and i hope he take care of them as i take care of them now.
My second favorite Talking Watches, only behind John Mayer. Thank you!
I actually met Alton in an elevator here in Cleveland he was wearing his Tudor!
Great great episode! Truly enjoyed it.
His love for watches really speaks to me.
This is my favorite episode to date!
This was a great "talking watches"! This guy is a true collector that also had some good stories about his watches. Thanks!
10/10
Another great episode! 6205 was probably the first Submariner to use the mercedes hand but they, I believe, were also used on 1930's Bubblebacks.
Amazing story - glad he was able to track down his father's watch.
Awesome episode Hodinkee.
So awesome that you were able to get your dad's watch back. Cool storey👌👌👌
Man I’m a big fan of your shows!.🙏
Great episode, Love the passion of his you can almost feel it watching. BTW the Tudor Snow flake had a cyclops on them but someone must have taken off. those Tudors had cyclops. 1969 - 1975
This man got me into the science of cooking since my childhood.
I've never seen that Omega before. I'm glad he found his father's watch! It's a cool watch too!
Best episode yet, Mr. Brown = class
Recently purchased an 2018 Rolex GMT Master ll Root-Beer as my engagement watch for our upcoming wedding and couldn't be happier. Currently posting some reviews on the Rolex GMT, extremely happy thus far. With that being said thanks for the shared knowledge and great content, keep it up!
Wonderful Episode.I used to wear my green Chronomat in the kitchen. I went through to many Breitling green leather straps, so I put her on a gold and stainless Breitling bracelet.
I love watches, but I will not lie, I was more excited about Mr. Brown saying that there is going to be a reboot of "Good Eats"!! Amazing interview!!
Great episode. Big fan, and he likes Land Rovers too!
It's the story behind the piece that makes it. Don't have the sub yet-- but an even bigger fan of the Tudor now... they are making a comeback.
I'm so glad that Alton found his father's watch. I know it must have meant a lot to him. I have my father's 14 k Boulova that he bought in 1943 when he was 15 years old. I have to give a shout out to Womble Watch Works in Marietta, GA for restoring my father's watch.
I'm glad I watched this. I'm a fan of Alton Brown.
If I'd allow myself hero's Alton would be atop the list! Learned so much from Good Eats that I put into use when I started my private chef company in '06. Now I have developed a taste for watches... Kinda cool to find him here as well.
Master Brown, what a great episode!
Awesome story about his Dad's watch!
