Spider-Man: No Way Home continues the MCU's events after Endgame, with Spider-Man and Doctor Strange opening up the multiverse, bringing in old villains like Doc Ock and Green Goblin and Electro and more -- but unfortunately not other Spider-Men like Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield as they are not in this movie, promise. And as expected, the movie made all the money at the box office and also entertained most audiences -- so there's a lot of positive angles to cover the movie from. But one interesting thing is that No Way Home successfully does a lot of the same things that Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 3 failed at in 2007, from multiple villains to an excess of events. So let's do another One v One comparing No way Home vs Spider-Man 3 and see why the first succeeds in a few key things where the other failed.

Jon Watts directs this Marvel Cinematic Universe continuation that features Peter Parker (Tom Holland) after he is unmasked, revealing his identity as Spider-Man to the world. In a way, he likes it that his girl MJ (Zendaya) knows his true identity, and also his best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) and Aunt May (Marisa Tomei). However, many issues and problems follow this identity reveal. Thus, Peter approaches Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to help him resolve the situation by performing a specific time-altering ritual. I liked it as well, it was very cool to see the characters from the previous franchises back after decades.
That's why I didn't really like the new ghostbusters. Cameos show up in the end to pretty much save the day. It was well done, but I think the little nerd girl should've gone to Dan Akroyds (sp?) shop early on in the movie and consulted him throughout until he figured out what was going on from what she was telling him about why she was buying gear from him and what she told him about what was happening in their new home they inherited, etc...
It seemed getting the band back together in the end was rushed for time.
Plot is wack as hell tho, the Tony Stark machine that can make everything, the motives of The Lizard and Sandman makes no fucking sense, the ending is Strange casting another fucking spell to fix all the crazy shit, seems too convenient.

The cheers in the theatre when Andrew and Tobey came out the portal was worth the ticket. Not only they went for fan service, but also made them an integral part of Tom's Spider-Man journey to realize what he had to do.
And they managed to give Andrew's Spidey redemption. One of the best, most emotional scenes in the whole MCU.

Honestly I was not expecting much from it because it's the newest spiderman and all his movies suck ( no offense to fans but they are really pile of nonsense crap) but tobey saved it. After many years it's was finally a good spiderman movie.

What's really sad is that the entire tragedy that Peter went through in the events of NWH was a tragedy of Peter's own making, because if he'd spent the time to think about it and consulted with Doctor Strange before going through with casting the spell, he might have ended up figuring out a better way to solve the problem. If you think about it for a bit, you'll see what he could have done differently. But instead, we got this genius piece of film where, because the hero messed with a power he didn't fully understand, he got consequences that he didn't expect.
Thats the whole point of the trilogy an origin story about him learning resposability as a teen
Now that he had may die by his actions he will be more responsible with his actions and powers in his college years

I mean personally I can’t have that dr strange is a adult and adept at magic. Should we really expect him to not realise that the original spell would of caused problems. He just started doing it without any planning of course he would object and add stuff what kind of doctor does things with no consultation for their client he was a surgeon for gods sake. Did he always go in raw. Ofc all he had to do was make everyone forget what mysterio said/done or that only people he trusts would remember. But that probably wouldn’t of been as good looks like strange gets his punishment in his sequel as far as I stand he’s 56%+ responsible for it.
@@no_player_commentary I mean, Doctor Strange has only been the Sorcerer Supreme for a small amount of time at this point in the timeline. Magic takes decades to really master, and Strange has had half of a decade to work.

No Way Home is kind of genius. They managed to have Uncle Ben die and surprise us with it. They just snuck him in as Aunt May and did it in part 3 when we weren't expecting it.
My only complaint on this trilogy is how they didn’t develop or give us more time with the cast like May and MJ.
The scene was emotional, but I always wanted them to spend more time with her and now that’s lost.
I don’t even understand why people act like this ‘3 part origin’ thing was planned. Uncle Ben dying is when Peter realises “with great power comes great responsibility”. This is a concept he is shown to ALREADY know back in Civil War. Then when he regresses as a character and RE-LEARNS the same message from Aunt May people praise it? Like what? (NWH was still dope though)

The great thing about the movie is it showcased the "with great power comes great responsibility" strongly. It shows how each decisions he makes can escalate or ruin things and taking responsibility of them without losing himself. It also excites me that they set it up to pull away from ironman's shadow because that was always my problem with the previous films. They revolve around ironman and now that everyone forgot he rebooted to ground zero. Now it would make sense if he became a photographer and paying the DAMN RENT

@Erik Kemeey IMO, I always feel that MCU's Spider-man is clumsy despite the reliable people he has around him (good mentor, good bestfriend, heck, even the best girlfriend!) whereas the Spider-man we love and know is trying so hard to make ends meet all the while carrying all the burdens of the world upon his shoulders and life always giving him a really hard time. NWH fixes all of that.

The thing I love about NWH is that it respected all of it's characters, even the side characters.
Like, this is Tom Holland's/Peter 1's movie, but they still gave Peter 3/Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man that amazing moment where he cried after saving MJ.
They gave Peter 2/Toby McGuire's Spider-Man a chance to help Peter 1 on his emotional journey using the experiences of his own movies.
Even MJ and Ned. Like MJ could be the stereotypical love interest and give Peter a hard time about his decisions but instead she's understanding and there for him when he needs her. Her and Ned aren't just passive, but actually help and contribute.
But they also do this with the villains. They aren't just there to fight or for a cameo; they act like themselves, like actual CHARACTERS. The way Otto talks to Norman as a former associate is, yes, there to help exposit, but it also feels natural. The way Flint helps Spider-Man vs Electro because they last left on good terms. That Peter 3 finally gets some closure with Max, by actually talking to him, rather than just killing him off like what happened in ASM 2.
And yeah, even the lizard got the respect of being called by his own name (Dr. Connor) and not treated (purely) as comic relief.
And that's not to mention that the entire plot is trying to save these tragic character's from a terrible fate, even though they aren't necessarily good people. How many super-heroes actually put in the effort to reform the villains rather than just murder them these days?
Movies that treat their characters like individuals with their own thoughts, feelings and motivations will always win in my eyes over movies that are just spectacle for the sake of it.
The way the Spider-Men redeem the villains is a lot like *_Return of the Jedi_* when Luke redeems his father despite the death and destruction he caused for two decades.
When Andrew saved MJ, everyone in the theater jumped out of their seats.
I hadn’t seen a level excitement this big since end game. Filled my heart with joy.
Honestly, as hype as the whole movie was, my favorite moment came in the credits scene.
When the symbiote fragment moved, me, my brother, the guy to the left of me, and the entire group sitting behind us all said "Oh no." in the exact same tone of voice. It was a weird little bonding moment.

I'm a grown man, but I honestly teared up a little when that happened. I think Andrew just sold the tragedy so well in those two scenes (when he tells Peter about his loss and then moment after the save) and it so impactful even though it was so quick that it hit me like a brick. Excellent performance.

@@jareejones it’s not the fact that she was gonna die we all know she wasn’t gonna die. It was the fact that Andrew was the one to save her in the same way that killed Gwen and for Andrew to relive that experience but to find redemption and peace from it which makes that scene so great.
Why NWH works is simple: they trusted the audience enough to have seen and remembered enough of those previous movies to allow the 3 Peters section to breathe and just be fun, with minimal exposition. You briefly mention "an alien made of black goo," send Venom back, but you see the piece of symbiote left to set up future Spiderman movies.

Yeah, NWH as a stand alone movie is mediocre at best. Most of its meat came from nostalgia Pandering and barely have anything that it can say that it truly owns.
@@fg009letyrds8 Maybe you missed the explanation in the video, but NWH still puts the MCU version of Peter through the heaviest consequences for doing the right thing no other Spidey film has ever done. The callbacks are a big part of the movie sure, but this entire video was about showing that NWH does have an overall character-driven storyline that keeps the nostalgia from being a huge mess.
No Way Home is legit one of the saddest super hero films of all time, if not THE saddest. Like it wasn't enough that Peter lost aunt May, which alone is devastating considering uncle Ben is already gone too, now leaving him a true orphan, no one to look out for him, no where to live, no job, no college due to Spidey stuff, all just barely out of high school. But by the end of it, he also loses his friends, his fellow super heroes, and the woman he loves, none of them remember him and he can't waltz back into their lives. He can't turn to Starke cause he's already dead, can't turn to Strange or SHIELD or the Avengers for help and advice. The dude is completely, 100% alone. Imagine being barely out of high school and having to start completely over, socially. Literally not a single person to talk to. Not one.
This ending is also heartbreaking from Ned and MJ's, and hell even Happy's POV, since Peter as a person and a friend meant SO much to all three of those characters, and one day they just wake up with no memory of him whatsoever. Like, you know those random points in life where you just get SUPER depressed out of the blue and don't even know why, you just know and feel like something is suddenly missing but don't have a clue what it is or where this sadness and melancholy comes from. Well in this case, Ned, MJ and Happy probably all go through this for several days, weeks or even months. They wake up without one person who means so much to them but they don't realize he's missing, but they might feel it, in a way.
I really do believe this is the first super hero movie ever where the hero saves the day, but loses and sacrifices everything but his actual physical life. This movie holds the most severe consequences to any other super hero film.
Yeah that’s why this movie is so fantastic, it’s a phenomenal film overall as one of the BEST Spider-Man movies out there! It makes you love MCU Spider-Man/Peter Parker even more and makes you want to see more of him! MCU Spider-Man is looking to be my favorite Spider-Man with this fantastic direction at the best bittersweet ending I’ve ever seen in a movie entirely!
I love that this movie actually had consequences. I feel like a lot of movies, especially super hero movies, often end with little consequence outside of the occasional death of a loved one, which even then doesn't always amount to anything in the long run. This one had a real weight that leaves you wondering where Peter will go from here. It was an even more selfless act than a sacrificial death, because he has to live with the loss of everything he once had.

NWH is essentially a high-budget fanfic, and as someone who loves to read fanfiction, that's why it works so well like you explain here. These are all characters I'm already invested in (plus nostalgia). So of course I just want to see more of them, even just hanging around talking.

Not really a “high budget fanfic” at all in the way how you think as MCU Spider-Man had a core story arc inside this movie for him to go through and worked perfectly fine and great for his character to go through and develop to do that most fanfic wouldn’t have, as there was a purpose to all these as MCU Peter goes through deeper and darker struggles and conflict in this movie than in any other.
Calling it 'fan-fiction' is an insult to the film. Fan fiction is just lazy, non-talented writers with no imaginations writing out scenarios with characters that almost inevitably end in a weird love/sexual angle. That's why other than E.L James, no fan-fiction author ever actually sees real success in the real world.
This was written by competent screen-writers who understand why fan-fiction SUCKS and didn't do it.

There's really bad movies and really great fanfiction. I've read fanfics that moved me and felt better written and had more respect to the characters than soulless/cash-grab sequels (like Toy Story 4). I know fanfics are most known for pairings, romance, and sexual content (which to be completely honest, I also love reading) but you can find some great ideas and writing if you look into it. It's not for everyone though, but I think that's okay, since mainstream movies try to appeal to a bigger audience and make as much money as possible thus making very safe and sometimes predictable movies, while fanfic writers write and share their work because they love a franchise and can bring some fresh and risky ideas.

I’ve been reading fanfiction for 14 years and I’ve actually read fic that’s as good as or even elevates the media it’s based on. Yes a lot of fic is about ships, pairings and romance but many also aren’t… that’s why you have different genres. Such as gen - which has no main pairings and quite often not even background.
Did you know that quite a few fanfic writers are actually people who are either writing, publishing or have published their own books? (Nothing to do with their fics.) I know another was a doctor because they mentioned it in their author’s notes: they based their MCU au fic on their experience as doctor, studying in college, what working in the hospital was like, dealing with patients. I knew they based it on real experiences before I even got to that author’s note because my cousin is a nurse and I’ve heard stories man.
Another author spent weeks researching different mathematical systems from different countries from different time periods as well as looking up pagan religious views, the Wheel of the Year and items needed for rituals in order for their Harry Potter fic to be interesting and set apart from JK’s canon HP. The mathematics was to help explain how different magical systems existed over the centuries - both the math and the paganism built extra lore on top of JK’s canon in a fun and interesting way.
I think the shitty quality of main stream fanfiction - like 50 Shades and After - might have skewed your views. Yeah there’s a bunch of fic like that, but there are also gems. I’d honestly classify the Star Wars sequels as high budget mainstream fanfiction. It has a bunch of the tropes lol.
I just want to put out there how unreasanable happpy this movie made me. It felt like it fixed the errors with the older Spideys. It kind of made all Spiderman movies feel good in the end. I havent felt this happy from a simple movie since i was a little kid.

What “errors” did the OG Spider-Man have exactly? I mean in terms of the things they brought in from that Raimi verse? I’m just a little confused what people think needed to be “fixed” about these characters and these situations.

Yes. Spider-Man: No Way Home brings joy to people. This world needs more joy in it.
One of the coolest scenes was when the two spider men were amazed that Tobey’s Spider-Man could make his own webbing. That interaction was so cool.
That and the conversations especially at the Statue of Liberty. It's something showcased i Into the Spiderverse, but at a somehow more intense level (maybe because these Spider-Men are at maximum awkwardness). They've never got to talk to someone with a different perspective but the same basic experiences.

I love the "Garfield saves MJ" scene. They managed to sneak in redemption even for the Spidey loved the least. Thus, even without a proper trilogy, his story came to a conclusion.

To be fair to Spider-Man 3, having such a large team up and so many sub-plots wasn't something movie goers were used to or expecting, and Spider-Man NWH is kinda given a headstart by having the characters all set up in five other movies, whilst Spider-Man 3 had to establish a handful of villains on it's own.
That's the point because everything was established Marvel can trust that the audience will remember the details and just get on with the story, this is how they've been handling big movies like this for 20+ years and counting and it's why I'm 100% confident that the same will be true for Doctor Strange.
Spider-Man 3 becomes a lot tighter when you realize Peter Parker is the villain, not Sandman, New Goblin, or Venom. All three "characters" unite against the villain Peter Parker who caused them all unjustified grief. Peter, who is in the process of having a villain reform arc at the end third of the movie, then have to face the demons his dark actions created.

One of the things I loved about _No Way Home_ is how they finally fix MCU Peter's problem of being "Iron Man Jr.", with him having access to Stark Technology and little to no problems in life aside from basic teenager stuff.
With Strange completing the spell and making everyone forget who Peter is, it adds a whole new layer of tragedy that MCU Peter lacked, which the previous cinematic incarnations had: Peter Parker's life is always sucks. It is one of the defining traits of the character, which makes him so relatable. With Peter having nobody in the world now, he has to fend for himself and grow; it is tragedy at its peak.
I also like how they had May take Ben's place with the motto as well him losing her. Since we never see Uncle Ben dying in the MCU, this gives May a new purpose to make Peter a better Spider-Man.

I don’t agree at all that he was EVER this “iron boy jr” nonsense that people keep on saying as MCU Spider-Man was STILL Spider-Man entirely so even with stark tech that he had, it’s just that MCU Spider-Man tired to take a different angle on focusing on his highschool life and tired to understand this as to not be like the amazing Spider-Man films that went all over the place.

MCU Spider-Man was ALWAYS Spider-Man ever since His first introduction into the MCU with Civil War, as SOON as we saw Tom Holland as Peter Parker, that WAS Spider-Man entirely so! Mcu Spiderman was ALWAYS Spider-Man from the get go! And that’s a fact!
Spider-Man 3 was a step backwards in the original Spider-Man trilogy. But, it wasn't so bad to the point where Sony desperately needed to reboot Spider-Man in general. We wanted Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire. Sony panicked!! But, in the end it all worked out thanks to Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the actor who benefited the most is Andrew Garfield. 🕷🕸

Spider-Man 4 would’ve been great, as would TASM 3, but it’s worth it to have all 3 different versions in NWH

At the end of No way Home i felt so lost because i related to Peter so much because of the rolercoster he had gone through. To imagine how it must be to be truly and completly lonely...because NOBODY remembers you...nobody can help you with your losses and even the people who are still there are lost to you too...it feels so sad and unfair.

Spider-Man 3 failed in some areas but it succeeded in other areas that kind of transcended the movie itself. I love it.

I think the majority of spiderman 3 is great and remains pretty much consistent with the other 2 films. I think a lot of people think the film is bad because the most widely spread opinion online says so.
One of Spiderman 3's most common (yet inaccurate) criticisms was that it had too many villains. It's main problem was it had no true villains. For half the movie, Spiderman went sort of bad, and fought a bank robber who had a big heart (established early with the interaction with his daughter).
When the Venom villain came around, he was miscast and his motive was jealousy. He was still sort of good/bad. Young Goblin was beaten early, then kind of fell into a grey zone, before becoming a hero.
There was no central powerful villain throughout, just a two weak ones and a kind robber - the symbiote itself didn't have a character nor origin.
It meant the movie was a bit of a jumbled mess of ideas, hampered by poor casting and a lack of a central villain that made the previous two so good.

The villains all were basically canceled out. They were simultaneously too many and not enough.
It really shows in the movie that Raimi allegedly was forced by executives to put Venom into the movie. Otherwise Sandman would have gotten much more screen time to become the central villain with a decent backstory and character development. And Goblin Junior would have still worked as a sub-plot, because Harry was already established in the previous movies.
It could have lead up to a great fourth movie with Venom as the main antagonist.

The real problem isn't that Spider-Man 3 had too many villains, it's that certain plotlines contradict everything from the 1st film.
First, it's making Sandman the actual killer of Uncle Ben because like Peter said, the police should've told him and Aunt May who really killed Ben that very night instead of waiting for Sandman to escape from prison to say something. Not only does it make the police look stupid for withholding information, it means that Peter was never responsible for Uncle Ben's death since the guy he chased after never really shot Ben.
Second, Harry's butler waiting 3 movies to tell him how Norman really died. Like the situation with Sandman being Uncle Ben's killer, Bernard should've told Harry on the very night Norman died that he accidentally killed himself with his own glider. Instead, Bernard stood by and let Harry think that Spider-Man murdered his father which caused him to destroy his friendships with Peter and Mary Jane. Bernard caused Harry's downward spiral and eventual death by keeping his mouth shut.
Third, Gwen Stacy should've been in the 1st film instead of in the 3rd. We know that Peter dated her first before he hooked up with Mary Jane and I think that Sam Raimi made a huge mistake leaving Gwen out of the 1st film. By putting Gwen in the 3rd movie, Sam severely damaged the Peter/MJ love story but that's not the only thing that hurt the love story. Mary Jane was a horrible girlfriend for kissing Harry and letting him talk her into dumping Peter. She could've warned Peter that Harry threatened to kill him if she didn't do what he said but she didn't and she should've seen Peter's behavior coming at the nightclub. The Venom storyline did some damage as well when it made Peter smack MJ in the face but Sam Raimi didn't want to put Venom in the movie but the studios forced him to.
Terrible plotlines and studio interference are what hurt Spider-Man 3.
The best part in this movie for me, was the moment after Andrew caught MJ, and the reactions they give.
HE, and by extension, WE know why this moment was so VERY important to him, though MJ is confused about his reaction and ultra concern.
Spider-Man 3, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 made the hard calls and we hated them for it so that No Way Home could climb on their shoulders and we love it. Without those prior movies, No Way Home wouldn't be as good as it is.
No Way Home was probably the closest we'll ever get to a live action Spider-Man Vs. Sinister Six movie.

I think the idea that Peter already knew this concept of responsibility but had lost sight of it is a realistic take on the character.
Kid has lost his uncle, been recruited by his idol, been to space, fought a galactic tyrant one on one, got blipped, his idol died, and he started relying on the iron spider suit (nullifying his spider sense) and therefore losing sight of what it means to be Spider-Man. The true realization of this regression is when he wants to let the villains die, when he goes so hard on the goblin Tobey has to intervene.

The BIG MAJOR reason why Spider-Man No Way Home is my favorite Spider-Man movie now, is because it pays respect to all the Spider-Man films. Despite what you think of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy or the first two Amazing Spider-Man films, No Way Home considers all films canon in their own universes. And I appreciate the film for doing that. The characters from those universes still have their character developments explored and expands even further in this movie! No Way Home treats the Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy and the first two Amazing Spider-Man films for existing. Unlike most films when they start all over and say "those last films never happened," No Way Home doesn't do that. Again, it pays respect to all the films. No matter what you might think of them! And just for that, Spider-Man No Way Home is MY PERSONAL favorite Spider-Man movie!
Not only that but they also equalize every version of Peter Parker/Spider-Man by having all of them respect one another. Just to add to the other posts: The biggest reason why NWH was so great, is that it took what worked what worked in all the other films, and RAN with it, HARD! But even better, it took what didn't work, and fixed it. It literally healed every single negative about the other films (to the point it's worth watching all of them in series before watching NWH)

But it really annoyed me the way aunt May died because Peter actually told MJ and Ned NOT to come with him to the apartment because it would be too dangerous. And then it cuts to them entering the apartment and Aunt May is just there with them. Just seemed really silly to me that Peter wouldn't protect his own family like he did his friends.

This is one of your first episodes that I feel like didn’t blow my mind or fundamentally show me something I never realized on my own. But it was legitimately one of your funniest.
One thing I like about NWH in comparison is that ut doesn't juggle 3 plot lines about amnesia, a symbiote and a fugitive father at the same time. It has a single plot, villains from other universes hop in, they have to catch then fix them, and send them out. This movie isn't perfect, but that's an element it handes amazingly.

Both are the third entries of their sagas, have tons of fanservice and bring back the original baddies.

Because this movie RESPECTS and used the Nostalgic characters to actually help the plot, the story ark for the main character, finally getting him where he needs to be and where to head to, and even finishes the Nostalgic character's plots(Tobey and Andrew).

I think it's worth mentioning the problem that Spiderman movies have by accident, which is the passive hero that does not drive the plot.
In multiple videos of yours, you talk about the importance of a hero driving the plot with a central goal that then forces them to constantly take action. And in short, this is important not just because it helps to make a plot seem structured, but because an active hero is more entertaining.
The problem inherent with a developing a Spiderman movie is that Peter is a normal kid with small goals, and these bad guys get in the way. They are an obstacle, yes, but because they don't completely shatter the hero's ordinary world with their presence as the inciting incident, Spiderman ends up having a passive goal of stopping them rather than an active goal that spans every scene and thus structures the plot.
Most superhero movies are structured that way. You can tell because you can't really change the order of any of the scenes, but in a lot of the Spiderman movies, there are a few scenes that could be jumbled around without majorly affecting the plot.
Something the Tom Holland movies do well is have a pretty well structured plot with an active goal throughout. They fit your parameters for great and entertaining movies extremely well, while the others have trouble with this aspect. How can a hero like Spiderman who is supposed to fight bad guys when they appear have a story where the entire two-hour plot revolves around one problem? Usually, he just sort of lives his life one day at a time until a bad guy appears, to which he fights them, then goes right back to his life.
This is what made my personal Amazing Spiderman 3 script project so difficult for me to conceptualize. I kept running into this issue.
But No Way Home does the best job of all the Spiderman movies of fixing this problem by having a clear inciting incident caused by Peter's own actions, with a clear basic idea of how this problem affects everything in the story along with enough characters and events to structure the entire plot around.
You have gone over this problem in the past by explaining how useful the Joker's laugh is in creating conflict, or how in BumbleBee the girl and robot needed a central goal to drive the plot.
Can you make more videos about movies that have progression and are thoroughly entertaining that either don't have a central goal or that have a looser, more general goal that does not permeate every scene. That is the sort of thing that would make for a great study. And I think you would be great at cutting to the heart of the matter.

That movie is the definition of proactive protagonist. This guy even did a video on it.
I actually think Spider-Man is one of the easier superheroes to make proactive in a story. When a villain shows up, it's because of his position as a kid with small goals that makes it important that he decides to do the right thing anyway (his decision to go after Vulture during Homecoming is a good example). And No Way Home does a good job of this too - the villains weren't Peter's problem, but instead of just reacting to them by sending them back, he makes the active choice to help them just because it's the right thing to do.

I think The Amazing Spider-Man films were much better at making Peter proactive then the Raimi trilogy. In TASM 1&2, Peter actively tries to find a way to stop the villains. In the first two Raimi films, he pretty much just waits around for the villains to attack (despite pretty much saying it was his job to stop the Green Goblin?) He was more active in Spider-Man 3, but that had a different set of problems covered in the video
The tried and true way to handle this is to start with a single problem and then pile on other problems that prevent the initial one from being solved. Which, tbf, is exactly what No Way Home does.

It really did hit so differently when she died... I thought we were safe from having that kind of event because Uncle Ben was already dead before Spider-Man: Homecoming, so it came as a complete blindside emotional gut punch...
NWH utilizing "nostalgic" characters for purpose in the plot is so refreshing. The nostalgia is there for sure, but when that fades from the initial reveal / watch, you're left with a movie that still works. I noticed this in the Mandalorian with Luke when he took Grogu away: It's not just Luke, it's the physical manifestation of what a Jedi truly is. He takes Grogu to train him, and is a first impression of a space wizard for Din. Same with this movie: nostalgic function. I hope that they keep this live action Spider-man crossover a sparse and thus special thing, because it's easy to go crazy once Marvel looks at the numbers it brought in. But, you know, it'll likely happen. Will I fell meh about it? Yes. Will I still watch it avidly? YES.
Fun Fact: if Grogu became an apprentice of Luke, then Kylo Ren killed him when he rebelled to Luke or when he killed the Knights of Ren, which were composed of some of his classmates from there.

@@LordofSadFac Yeah, the best parts of Book of Boba Fett were the Mando moments. It made me realize (more so than before) that some characters and their history are better left mentioned but never shown. Like they didn't need to give us a Han Solo origin movie, it was more fun coming up with a history between him and Lando on our own. It's something I appreciated with the Black Widow movie, which didn't explore the ever-referenced Budapest mission apart from a few flashbacks. A little imagination goes a long way, like when they don't show a monster in a horror movie for the longest time, or give us the true origin of the Joker in The Dark Knight.
I really appreciate the detail of putting the music from a Mission complete from al GTA's after fixing the problems.

NWH isn’t just an incredible movie. It’s a celebration. A celebration of 3 generations of live action Spider-Man finally coming together after 20 years. We got to see Tobey’s Peter after Spider-Man 3 and we got to see Andrew’s Peter finally redeem himself after 7 years of suffering, and we got to see Tom’s Peter fully become Spider-Man. I could not ask for a more beautiful Spider-Man movie than NWH. The Spider-Man movies to come won’t be as amazing as NWH, but they’ll still be amazing regardless.

I don’t think we talk enough about the gravity of Peter Parker’s sacrifice. This kid puts his life at risk on a daily basis and in the end chooses a life where if he were to die on one of those days no one, not even the avengers, would miss him.
Keep in mind this is a kid who, at the beginning of his trilogy, wanted nothing more than to be recognized for his talents. It’s about the best possible ending to a Spider-Man story but also the pure heart of what superheroes were created to inspire.
I never really hated Spider-man 3 but man did I get emotionally invested in No Way Home. It was fun to watch and then after rewatching a bunch of Spider stuff it was even more fun to go watch again. I had fun with all the Easter eggs, even for the movies I didn't like. I had fun watching it on my own and with people. I had fun talking about it with people after they had seen it. I even like that everyone else had fun getting to see their favorite versions of Spider-man again even if they weren't mine.
Whatever your thoughts about the MCU, they love all their characters and nerdiness and it shows. Meaning these massive splash page movie things are fun!

Spiderman no-way-home is a film that has had to be made is such a clever way whether you are a nerd, a fan, or not as much.........but went to see the film and enjoyed it. Although people have all means to pick out elements they didn't like or wanted to see more/less of, the overall story was so well put together, and it definitely went into UNCHARTED territories that only the previous Spiderman franchises, but other franchises have never truly delved into, when the acts of the film are clear and flow well.
Your take is one of my favorites about Spider-Man 2, I agreed with every line you said. So it was expected to get a sequel about that

Spider-Man 3 becomes a lot tighter when you realize Peter Parker is the villain, not Sandman, New Goblin, or Venom. All three "characters" unite against the villain Peter Parker who caused them all unjustified grief. Peter, who is in the process of having a villain reform arc at the end third of the movie, then have to face the demons his dark actions created.

can I Just say I LOVE how you can tell which villains they wanted to bring back(Green Goblin/Doc Ock which villains whose actors wanted to come back (Jamie Foxx) and then which villains just sit in a conrner the whole movie because they either didn't know what to do with or their actors came back for the money (Lizard/Sandman)

I have no idea why but I've been loving video essays more and more and for some reason I'm always watching them around 12 AM to 5 AM. I've watched a few videos from this channel and honestly I really like the videos. They're properly structured. Yes I've watched other structured video essays but this channel just does it better and I don't know how. I don't even know if these videos could be considered video essays but to me they are. So I don't know how to end this comment so I'll just end it here
I actually am very grateful with the proudcers and writters of this movie, they fixed all 3 spiderman's flaws in just one movie, which it can only be described as perfect.
The ending in the movie was terrible:
-"I win because I punch harder than you." Never seen that before.
-Everyone forgetting the identity is 1 of the biggest tropes ever.
The logic in the movie was terrible too:
-1 of the most famous people on the planet not being accepted into colleges. Riiiiiiiiiight. Lebron would be accepted into any US college today and Spider-Man is likely 10x more famous in his world.
Then, his admittance "problem" is fixed by saving 1 person because now she sees he is a hero??? So she just ignored all other videos? If she thought he was a terrorist due to Mysterio, just saving her shouldn't matter. (Won't even bring up the fact that committees determine college acceptance, not just 1 person).
-Not wanting to send the villains back to exactly where they left is absurdly dumb. It somewhat makes Parker a Villain because he is recklessly trying to change timelines with 0 understanding of the Consequences. Take Doc Oc. He died by sacrificing himself to save the city. Sure wouldn't want to send him back to that!!
@@jasonjanisewski78 if you didn't understand the ending is your own problem actually, because for many the ending was pretty emotional. Second he wasn't that famous in the movie, remember Tom's Peter was still a teenager, only the people of US knew his existence and that's why everyone put a blind eye when they saw Mysterio's video. Third his problem wasn't fixed by saving one person, in the movie she said that Peter and his friends would probably have a second chance, that doesn't count as a problem completely fixed is just a new chance for doing something. Lastly it is not absurd to change the villains, the thing is Peter didn't knew they would die and when he knew about it he didn't knew how they would die, so before taking any chances he just did what a hero do, save others, that's one reason why Batman is a cool superhero because even though he is a genius and good in combat his first rule is to not kill anyone, and so the same goes to Spiderman, if you actually think, you could have seen that the other Spidermans didn't actually want to kill the villains, if they did it was because they were forced too but it wasn't their intention, that's why seeing the Villains get cured and remember the other Spidermans makes it very emotional to the public, very nostalgic, of you don't understand that well it's your own problem it doesn't mean the movie is bad or it doesn't make any sense, because it does make sense

It is straight wrong to believe that Spider Man was not very famous. The avengers are world famous and he was with the avengers. Also, the internet exists in the MCU just like here. It is nonsensical to believe a Super Hero that has partnered with the most famous Super Hero Team in the World, and had a suit personally by 1 of the World's most famous heroes who also is the world's most famous tech genius would only be known in the US. Riiiiiiiight.
A Superhero does not just blindly save people from another world without understanding the consequences. His entire philosophical believe is supposed to be "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility." Turning a blind eye to the consequences that his actions will have on multiple realities simply because he has the power to do so completely contradicts his entire belief system.
@@jasonjanisewski78 you actually need to watch all the MCU films, because while it is true that Spiderman is part of the avengers and his suit was made by Tony Stark, remember that He didn't said publicly he was part of the Avengers, to know this you should have watch Spiderman Homecoming. Then when he was part of the Avengers it was when Tony Doctor Strange and him were in the ship of Thanos' son nobody was there, so again the only people that actually knew about Spiderman was the US poblation or the people that went to visit New York, so again the reason why everyone all of a sudden believed in Mysterio's word and not Spiderman was because Mysterio was supposedly well known by the world, you can see that at Spiderman Far From Home.
Also he is still following that path, because he has the power and knowledge to save people, in this case the villains, so then he has the responsibility to do something to help them from dooming themselves, that's how the phrase works, you can also see that in Tobey's Spiderman, and again if you don't understand it doesn't mean is bad or trash, is just mean that you haven't been a good watcher

This movie took advantage of nostalgia not only for attracting viewers but also telling a story without telling it. Fans know its a big moment for Andrew when he saved MJ, fans know it's an emotional moment for Tobey because fans knows that Tobey's spider man has gone through the same rage. We all know why it felt heart warming when Doc was fixed. Its a really creative use of nostalgia
It brilliantly follows the “show don’t tell” rule in moments like that, especially Andrew saving MJ. It’s never spoon fed to us why that accomplishment is so significant to him. We already know. Even people who haven’t seen TASM2 could easily figure out the significance. Andrew mentions he lost the love of his life and couldn’t save her, then he starts to tear up after saving another girl from falling from a great height, making it simple for non-fans to put two and two together. Fantastic subtlety that respects the intelligence of the audience.

No way home worked out well because some of the villains in it didn’t even have arcs. They were just hanging there. Like sand man and The lizard! Spider-Man 3 tried to have character arcs. And it was just too much for 1 movie.

Yeah, Plus it helps they added a clear main villain with The Green Goblin. As much of a glow-up they gave Electro, Gobbie was the main threat given the most focus (Not to mention Willem Dafoe has only gotten better as time went on)

Norman doesn't buy into what Doc Ock said about his death but Sandman was right there to confirmed the truth. Same goes for Lizard and his interaction with Electro.
The interaction between Sandman and Electro also gave an interesting look at how similar their circumstances were and yet they chose different path.
Just because they weren't as important doesn't they don't have any layers to their presence.

I'm surprised to see people's view of NWH turn sour. I gotta wonder if people are realizing that the movie hinges on just the dumbest plot (REALLY Peter? I know you're a teenager and teens RARELY think things through but COME ON), or if they think it's JUST fan service, or if they just want to go against the grain and seem COOL, or if they genuinely didn't like the movie...but honestly I can't find any real major faults in the movie. The main thing being Peter not thinking to talk to the MIT recruiter before going to Strange, BUT again that can be explained away as him being an idiot teenager and desperate and I'M SURE we made good choices when desperate.

To be honest, the finale of spider man 3 taking place in a construction tower is something that was being build since the start of the movie, for exemple when Sandman hide in a sand truck it was to build ciment for the construction

I waited until I saw the movie to watch this; I wish they had used Sandman's ambiguity during the major fight scene.
He saved Peter from Electro when they first met and never wanted to kill him, it would have been interesting to see him join on the side of the villains for the final fight but still save the lives of the Spidermans because he doesnt want them to die, just to be defeated and hand over the box.
It would have added complexity to the final fight, and would have made the fact they took out Sandman first more interesting.
Like they were taking the safety off in order to win, since Sandman would be keeping them alive but stopping them from winning, as the biggest bad in the group.
Instead he just goes full "kill the Spidermans"
Your premise for the comments on Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was that the development and goals for Wanda were not established inside the movie and that the audience was effectively given homework, while here you are okay with people having to watch no less than 5 other movies to know the character endings. Furthermore, the premise of the characters going to their deaths is not accurate - they are not necessarily destined for death by going home, especially Doc Oc, who only dies because of the neuro thing that Peter already fixes way early. Norman Osborn has no reason to assume he is going to die because he dies due to his own wing glider hitting him in the final confrontation. He has no way of knowing that is going to happen at the time he got sent to the other universe. Sandman has no reason to assume he is going to die in his own dimension. Lizard doesn't die in his own movie. Shocker might suspect but cannot be sure, especially if he knows what is going to happen. Again, the reason for redeeming the villains is paper thin.
Furthermore, the premise of the movie is that the spell goes wrong because Strange adds more and more parameters to it. There is no reason why he cannot do the same again, as no Aunt May or even Uncle Ben has been attracted to his universe by this. In other words, the entire "cost" that he faces is arbitrary. The thing that Strange could clearly do can now suddenly no longer be done because that is what the plot requires. Again, same comment you made on Wanda in the Multiverse movie.
This movie was terrible in terms of plot. It was terrible in terms of what Strange can and cannot do, because he suddenly decides to not use his most powerful attacks. At all. Yeah, it's cool to see all the other Spidermen and have them united, but this was a garbled mess of a movie if you look at the formal structure. The aforementioned parts of the core don't work. There are smaller gripes too, of course, like for example: why those villains and not others? Why these spidermen too but also not others? Why do portals randomly close at certain points but not others (this has been a long running plot problem, but is made important in that Ned can do magic and open/close them, but not all the time and there is no clear reason why some portals open and close in the rest of the movie). And then there's the whole everyone forgets problem: how does that work if there is a ton of video evidence, news archives, people that Peter knew/knows, etc. Do they all forget he existed? What happens to his passport? Does he no longer have to pay taxes? If Strange can cast things that powerful, why didn't he make Thanos forget about the infinity gauntlet before?
I think it would be great if you compared an animated movie, like a silent voice, to a live action one dealing with similar themes. Or anything else as long as a silent voice is involved. I just really love that movie xD

Part of No Way Home's success is attributed to my biggest issue with Marvel, in that it relies on you having seen every Spiderman movie before it. It feels very clearly like the suits said "people are falling out of live with SpiderTom, let's bring in every character from all the other movies we own", and the writers had enough sense to follow this advice to make a bad idea for a movie into an okay movie.
I am a big fan of Tobey and agree with everything, the film is good when it get right (like all the hit MJ and then go to church stuff, and i like to think that MJ do apologise him but they didn't marry again or back to the relationship) but when it fail it just fail badly to the point of the show has more bad moments or fail more moments than make good ones. I think that a good or excelent still have fails or problems but its good cause it get right more than fail

I saw Spider-Man 3 when it first came out in th theaters, and 15 years later, I was excited to see Tobey back in NWH!
Spider-Man 3 was never an actual failure. Sure, it had multiple things to juggle and No Way Home is better. But Spidey 3 still has heart in its story and I argue it has somewhat of a cohesive plot. I think the issues you stated are more in line TASM2 since all those plots are jumbled and barely lacks a theme with everything going on.

@@hunterlawrence3573 TASM 2 is probably more entertaining with its more light hearted tone and visuals and the final fight was pretty good, it's better than spider-man 3's final fight, but I think spider-man 3 was more coherent as a movie overall, TASM2 was even more of a jumbled mess than spider-man 3 was with even worse side plots (like Peter's parents) and way worse villains
@@spike5499 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 does have more storylines than it can fully develop in its runtime, but unlike Spider-Man 3, those storylines are good. Spider-Man 3 is definitely entertaining, but the only major character that’s written well is Sandman, and he’s the one that didn’t really need to be there. For some people this isn’t such a big deal, but as someone with aspirations in creative writing, having well written characters is the most important thing to me personally.
The dead parents subplot is fine; it’s fairly entertaining. The only thing I don’t like about it is the implication that Peter only got his powers because of his father’s DNA, but I suppose that’s easy enough to write around. Keep in mind, this was never resolved because TASM3 was canceled
Sandman was interesting, but didn’t get developed. They probably should’ve saved him for Spider-Man 4. Harry’s Green Goblin was the only thing setup at the end of Spider-Man 2 so it’s reasonable to expect he’d get a fair amount of development. Instead he doesn’t even have a character arc. He just conveniently finds out (in a really stupid way) that Peter didn’t do the thing he thought he did and immediately turns good. Eddie was very unsympathetic and his motivations made no sense. Despite this, somehow the Venom scenes were still the best part of Spider-Man 3.
What I can praise Spider-Man 3 villains for, is having good design. TASM2, not so much. It’s not as bad as some say, but it could be a lot better.
Harry and Electro are written pretty well. Again, Harry was meant to be in TASM3 where he’d likely be developed further. The film could’ve benefited from being a bit longer, but at least it feels like one coherent story rather than the beginning of three different stories.
