    What is the tool that you are holding the housing in place with?

    • @MikeKlimek
      @MikeKlimek  Před rokem +1

      They are generally called water pump pliers or channel locks. You don't have to use those specific tools either. The point is just to hold the body still as you tighten the nut.

    Can I do the same if my turn off velve is made of plastic? I wonder if it could be tightened the same way.

    • @MikeKlimek
      @MikeKlimek  Před 2 lety +1

      You should be able to. Just use a wrench to hold the valve firmly while you tighten the nut. It shouldn't take much force.

    would a valve that is leaking with a small stream of water as opposed to a drip cause the water bill to reflect usage of over 500 gallons per month? I have a valve under my kitchen sink that is completely shut off but still has a thinn stream of water coming out of it even though it's off. had it fixed a couple yrs ago and it's again doing this even though it's turned completely off. My water bill is up over $800 for the month & they say we're using over 500 gallons of water, normally my water bill is around $54....if it were actually 500+ gallons wouldn't that be a huge leak that would be going out all over the floor? or can a vavle that is leaking like this do that? my husband is disabled & we don't have the money to have it fixed right now. I also don't know how to temporarily stop this water coming out of this turned off valve. we though turning it off would stop it but the water is still coming out

    • @MikeKlimek
      @MikeKlimek  Před 3 lety

      It's hard to say if the 500 gallons is from only that leak. It does sound like a lot of water (imagine 10 water heaters full of water!), but you would be surprised at how much water can leak out under pressure. If the valve is off and is still leaking, there isn't much you can do but repair it yourself or pay someone to do it. Maybe find a sympathetic neighbor willing to fix it?

    How do you repair a leak in a pressure shut off valve

    • @MikeKlimek
      @MikeKlimek  Před rokem

      It depends where the leak is coming from. They can be rebuilt, but for the money and time savings, I usually just replace them.

    My valve starts spraying water when I get near the end of shutting it off , what does that mean?

    • @MikeKlimek
      @MikeKlimek  Před rokem

      A lot of valves do this, they are plastic etc. You'll probably find that it may start leaking as you near the end of shutting it off, then it will stop leaking and shut off the water when you tighten it up. You can replace it or take it apart and replace parts.

    What if it’s leaking from the top portion?

    • @MikeKlimek
      @MikeKlimek  Před rokem

      If you have a separate valve and water supply line, you can try to unscrew the hose, tape it liberally with teflon tape, and screw it back on. If you have a one-piece, you should probably replace it.
