I've been to Japan, and yes, their TV is like this all the time
Say it's not so
Lol
I hope it was like this everywhere ;-;
lol it's true
Feels like _everything_ has that announcer voice guy narrating things.
I don't see why everybody's panties are in a bunch about this vid. Yes, it's not a steel "plate" and more a steel "sheet", but this video isn't about the tensile strength of the katana as much as it is the skill of the person wielding the sword. Virtually any blade can cut through it with enough strength behind it, but the ability to swiftly, decisively cut at the proper angle with little to no wasted or misdirected force is impressive. Sheet or Plate, this guy could lop your head off with a stroke, kudos to the skill and dedication to this martial craft.
+Chris Stalbe i know right this video is not about the sword its about the man weilding it.
I would say let him do it with another sword but im sure he needs to use a katana for such a feat since that is what he trained with. I bet if he used any other sword everyone would complement him rather than complain about the sword...
+Chris Stalbe You clearly don't understand how weapons work, then.
You can't cut clean through medieval plate armour with a sword. And it's not just about the metal of the plate armour, but the angles at which it's arranged. A metal sheet? Yes.
As for his ability, nobody is denying that. The problem people have is that weeaboos will get their panties in a bunch about a Katana being a magical weapon when in fact it is just a sword adapted to its military context, and this feat could just as easily been achieved with an Arabic saif or a German longsword, for instance.
+Andrew Raslan The only people I ever see getting their panties up in bunches about Katana are the people who keep yapping about how shit the weapon is and how annoying these "Katana Weeaboo" are that I rarely see, IF ever, and whose opinions shouldn't be of much account to anyone truly serious about history in this fasion anyway.
There is no such thing as a Katana cult, but there is a strong counter culture of bigotry as of late towards the East and Japan in paticular that is far more obnoxious and zealous anyway.
+Jacob Blanton Don't feel they're strong anyway, Jacob. It's all neckbeards and trilby bearers.
+samuel H. you are gay
Have any of you guys actually worked with sheet metal? .4mm is thin, but with sheet metal, that is a hell of a lot sturdier than you guys think it is. When you work with it and cut it, you can't just cut it by hand, you have to use an electrical or mechanical device to cut it. There is a reason it's commonly used for a number of items. Those that keep saying, "I could cut that with a pair of scissors" go try that and watch them break. That he cut that sheet metal clean in half is far more impressive than you people give him credit for.
You might put some nicks in it but thats about it from scissors know a good butcher knife thats a different story.
thats easy for any sword thats not a rapier...
0.4 mm is easy to cut by hand, you even can use regular household shears.
Nordic Spear He use katana that does not design for 1 hit kill like sword .
u know?
Don't make me laugh, you can cut through 1mm easily with a small pair of tin snips. The stuff he's cutting is Canned Food Steel. You know, the kind you can cut with a 4 inch tin opener.
It would be easier if you throwed the pommel to it
God dammit Skall

+IShallPlay GT omg, katanas are so sharp, they like overpowered
not anyone, when the blade hit the rod, there's a chance of the blade might rotate due to impact if the user doesn't has enough grip but if you're using too much power on gripping, your arm will go stiff and that's pretty much make the sword slower with lower power. The katana wielding is more than grab it and hack it,it's 2 hand sword style and you have to use arm to swing it down and hand to make the momentum to increase the power but yeah, the sword is one of the factor. When I started kendo, I got scolded on using too much arm power for sometime.

One Sword Style- *DAISHINKAN!!* (GREAT DRAGON SHOCK)
ah yes the move to defeat monet
Guys, It's just a style of sword. The Tamahagane used in traditional Katana (Or so the sources I found state) is pig steel/iron, and it's folded 10 times to make it harder and sharper, but it's still brittle. Plus, the guy who just cut that plate has also cut an airsoft BB and an arrow out of the air. It's... really hard to question his skill and at this point it feels like you're just trying to discredit the feat rather than enjoy how clean that cut was.
I believe so.
Not too many Samurai around these days, and he has been all over the world doing feats such as this.
This is true I cut an air force 1 jet in half and went to jail for 20 years, you are all invited to my 19th birthday
And I gave you a tomahawk as birthday present :D
Yay
This people are all impressed by cleanly cutting a pipe and a piece of sheet metal. Buy a $200 mosin nagant and pierce a piece of 1/2 inch steel at 500 yards.

elegance in power... what a beauty...
This guy is very skilled but this doesn't mean a katana can cut through armour. Armour is made from tempered steel and is thicker than that. Also, because of it's shape, sword strikes glance off of it.
I know right some people exaggerate the katanas powers as its better than everything there's more to a blade than its sharpness all about angle and the material I asked one of my friends if it could cut threw Lorica segmentata or mail armor the katana is a great weapon but only a pure fool would use it against someone covered in heavy strong tempered steel armor.
+Aragiss yea in a medieval war maybe they are not that good, they are good at cutting down armorless fighters better than any sword tho.
+solmyr2 I didn't get what you're saying, sorry.
Aragiss that katanas are great if you are not fighting an armoured opponent, bcz they cut better than most swords. I guess when they were created there were not so many heavy armours around.
+solmyr2 Yeah , mostly because Japanese fought each other a lot and they don't wear plate armour.
I've seen other videos of this guy and his skill with a katana is truly amazing, but is it really so surprising that a folded steel blade is going to go through iron?
True
its bcs of the layers of the metal they fold it like 30 times so the metal becomes even stronger
i read some articles of old japanese sword that some of katanas are folded thousand times
@@mackyrandom6281 It's because Japanese iron is low quality, you don't have to do something like to make great sword if the material is great, what he doing is not because of sword it because he so skilled and fast to pull that out.

The blade not chipped at all. It's a proof that the steel pipe and sheet(?) is softer than the blade. However, the clean cut shows that this guy is not to mess with. Holy moly.
I just want people to know this isn't a"can it cut" test. It's a test of Machii-san's skill at his edge alignment
@DarkEternal6 no it wasn't. had he cut it in a way that was off, the edge steel would have deformed to a greater degree. they even show that being the point. pay attention please
i guess by the looks of it, the metal/steel was made in china

I need to do some of these tests....
Impressing. It can cut trough a thin steel plate. like a one handed bronze sword can :)
Does it mean its as good as a bronze sword?
Dun Hilda the cut itself trought he plate with a bronze was not as straight.
But that does not meen much. There is a difference between a one handed and a 2 handed sword. so if you shall compare the cut that exactly you cant compare a one handed and a twohanded sword.
But i just pointed out the fact that a bronze sword can also cut trough a thin plate of steel.
Pretty much any sword can do that. so its not a proof that the sword is very sharp or very goood even
Reddokk Fheg true but it's about the cut the cleaner the cut the sharper the sword is if the pipe bends alot and does not have a clean cut it only means you hacked through the steel with physical force rather than the sharpness of the weapon think of it this way if you have a thin piece of steel when i punch you get a dent but when you hit it with a piece of rock you also get a dent does that mean my fist is as tough as a rock?
HammerheadGuitar Why you say this to me? I never said anything about the pipe.
And i am fully avare ofthe things you said.and wont argue about that
HammerheadGuitar good way to make poeple anderstand its not only the blade that dothe work also the person that holdit but dont ferget that the blade to work on its own way
Reddokk Fheg Bronze sword is a very crude material. These Katanas are forged in layers upon layers of tempered steel.
Most swords, including katana, have trouble cutting armor as it is thicker and tempered. This is impressive at first, but many functional swords can do this to the same effect.
Seamus Collins Aye, I mean just look at how flimsy that metal was. not very impressive.
+Seamus Collins have you seen those in action too ?
Ckyntosh What, other functional swords?
Like I said, most swords. I should have really specified the type of armor and what not. I'm not retarded.
+Seamus Collins you know i don't think the point of this show was to show off the Katana. I think there were showing of how skilled the swordsman is. Just because every sword can cut metal does not mean every swordsman can do it effectively.
It's amazing how dramatic they make everything look, it's hilarious. Someone could drink from a cup and they would be going fucking crazy over it.
Good fast speed with good sword!!
Same results achieved by Threng when he used a $250 norman sword... same exact test....
+Simon Dean name of the video ?
+Ckyntosh Try looking up Theng and Thrand's channel call Theng and Thrand and look in their test cutting section. It's a cool video.
I want to see a Katana cut through another Katana, then I will believe in superpowers xd
smooth like cutting sashimi :)))))
Damn, a sharp, dense metal-ish object flying at high speed could cut through a thin piece of metal! WHAT A SURPRISE!
You can feel how much pressur he is under just from his expression.
And I mean it makes sense.
He is the world record holder for many katana related feats.
He has accomplished so much.
Everyone knows he has skill.
But precisely because of that, it would be VERY anticlimatic if he failed a cut in live television.
And I mean, of course it's not like people would doubt his ability, everyone makes mistakes, so it's fine.
But he is being Watched by a LOT of people.
To fail at all in front of so many peope is already kindo f embarrasing for someone, but to someone with that much skill? The pressure is even higher.
The moment he makes the cut, you can noticibly see him relax.
Also the ancient Japanese tradition of a samurai failure is the samurai taking the sword to his guts.
@@m.laraibali3266
What constitutes failure cannot be determined by those who are not deeply acquainted with the tradition.
For the samurai, "seppuku" was a means of keeping one's spirit alive to the end.
In fact, only those of high rank or those who had performed deeds worthy of respect were allowed to commit "seppuku".
This guy would have been a legend if he was born in the sengoku period
why?.. because he can hit a stationary target?
megadeth22885 "why?.. because he can hit a stationary target?"
isao Machii can hit more than stationary targets- /watch?v=7Yy-8Id1svc Very trivial, but still impressive.
He could slice through a torso leaving no visible sign of entry wound for the initial 3 seconds. . Deadly swordsman; respect earned.
Are you out of your mind? Unless your Gregor Clegane there's no way your going to slice someone in half.

I imagined you wearing a set of fake buck teeth, thick glasses and squinting your eyes really hard when you said that.
No matter the quality of the katana, chainmail was much stronger than you think. Butted chainmail like in Cold Steel tests will obviously break easily, but rivetted chainmail, with the proper padding and protection underneath won't fail under a katana blow. After all, there are some accounts of chainmail protecting soldiers from arrows, which would cause much more stress on the chainmail than a katana blow.
impressively clean cut on metal but not so surprising that it's possible
My favorite part was when he used the sword.
Notice how thin the metal is, a fucking Bowie knife could cut it.
Shadow's Gaming You should have see me yelling at my monitor "IT'S A FUCKING TINFOIL SHEET!" XD
Shadow's Gaming a great sword can brake a katana in half so them cuting papper thin metal is not really impresive
***** i wouldnt bet on that i splited a machette with an axe so pretty sure a sword can to if given enough force
***** i think it depend on how tick the blade is and how strong the one hiting his
***** a machette not as tough as a good sword lol and you really never broke a sword by hiting thing with it?
No country can express astonishment and amazement like the Japanese. "Whoooooaaahhhh!!!"
Kool, that samurai looks so cool. Maybe I watch too much anime...
Mild steel, the pipe is thin section also. Mild steel can be cut with ease. Up to 1mm you can go with tin-snips, beyond there are shear tools for cutting up to 8mm by hand, and there are hydraulic version of shears for up to 20mm. For 0.4mm you can go with regular household scissors. The pipe seems like 0.5-1mm
ショート見てこっち来たら、鉄パイプやし、そもそも日本のテレビやし
鉄板ていうから工事現場にあるぐらいの厚みあるか思ったら0,4mmとか薄いしw
need an English translation; this is a fabulous video
I am more impressed at his edge alignment rather than the exact object he cut.
0.4 mm is a bit thin for any real test on non-hardened steel, which pretty much any other decently made blade can cut through.
All hail the monosteel european greatsword

So this is what Ishikawa Goemon looks like in real life
So cutting through flimsy sheet metal and a thin conduit pipe does this sword no justice.
Can it also cut through aluminium foil? Can it bisect pipe dreams? If so, this must be magic!
Apocalyptic Knights It can even cut lead. There's that video of a katana slicing through a bullet. This makes the katana as good as a butter knife in that regard.
dude ..to cut with a sword that aluminum foil is hard ....if you try that wrong it can stuck ..i'm not sure how thick that aluminium foi is ..i don't know if that is aluminum either.
This is quality steel, not aluminium, it is very elastic and continues to vibrate many seconds after the strike. Aluminium has almost no elasticity, once bent, it stays bent. Even low grade stainless steel will deform plastically much rather than elastically. Just goes to show that you don't know anything about the most basic properties of common metals rsp. metal alloys.
How many weeaboos are watching this?

Katana is famous for foreigners, but in Japan guns were also used.
In 1543, portugese marchants brought the first guns to Japan.
In 1600 Japan had 500,000 guns. Japan had the largest number of guns in the world then.
After 1600 Japan had few civil wars and the guns were banned by the government.
Samurai class (they were soldiers, policemen and bureaucrats) continued to use katana.
Katana has got improved until WW2. In Russo-Japan war, artisans and engineer developed cold weather specificated katana. In Palau, a tropical pacific ocean island, scientists invented katana for southern islanders to combat with pirates.

It's actually a Chong Li quote from Bloodsport, although the phrase itself its a reference to Enter the Dragon.
Vitor Rodrigues
And the reason for that phrase is an homage, since Bolo Yeung, who plays Chong Li, is also in Enter the Dragon, where he plays the character...Bolo.

Katana is my favourite
切る前の集中してる時の顔がブラック・ラグーンのレヴィみたいでカッコいい
This video clearly wasn't meant to test the strength of the katana, but the strength, skill, and accuracy of the swordsman/samurai.
How does cutting tinfoil or a thin aluminium pipe show any of that?
This is a message for every idiot who does not get the meaning of this video. This video is showing his skills and not the quality of the katana. He is is proving that he can cut through the foil, without bending it.
Why do Japanese shows remind of the Hunger Games shows?
Probably because one was influenced by the other. Can you guess which?
This guy is also known for his super reflexes. He can cut a BB bullet with his katana.
