He is my favorite. He is the real deal. Who ever responsible for this video thank you so much for documenting history !Thanks for this great interview!!
YOU turned me on to him Chad !!! You held up the 2 LPs you did for AP and that got me started. Now I'm 10 albums in. What you don't have at AS I got from TJW's official store. Thanks Buddy !
Heard Tony as a little girl growing up in suburban Australia, learning to sing. Have loved that swampy sound ever since. My grandmother used to dance to it. Swamp rock/blues is so very far removed from any AussieI identity. Where I grew up was a bit of a wild West though. TJW is real deal. So smooth. Just love him.
I discovered Tony Joe White last Thursday 25/01/2024 while chilling in between fitness classes in Airdrie in Scotland. Can't believe it's taken me 46 years to discover him, what a cool dude and excellent player :)
I'm 71. I remember the first time I heard "Polk Salad Annie". It was about 6:30 a.m. in the summer of 1969. RIP, TJW.
I’ve only just discovered Joe. What a wonderful person. What a legend.
He was. And still is…. I’m an Aussie, and saw him live 3 times at the Byron Bay Blues Fest, would you believe. Omg his voice was incredible. So chilled. I’m obsessing over him all over again, at age 65!
Me too. From a Southern Culture On The Skids song lyric reference, pretty distant. Figured if they mentioned it, it was worth checking out.
Me too just yesterday 8/22/22 sorry 😞 I missed so much.
@@hilslamer Same here. Exactly. Figured if Southern Culture guy liked him, be worth checking out.
The best interview I’ve ever witnessed from a Real Bluesman! Tony Joe was the Man🇺🇸 RIP Brother
SO good the even Tina Turner thought he was a black man.
I’m 77 . Heard Tony Joe in San Francisco at place called Boarding House in my 20s! Blew me away. Honest and Real guy. I’ve learned a lot of licks from Tony over the years! I remember Some in audience were yelling out for songs they wanted him to play! He said “I ain’t no jukebox “ Loved it!!! Tony inspired me to write this! Thanks Tony. I’ll see you my friend!
I've been listening to Tony Joe White since I was a kid and that was 50 years ago when I started and I'm still listening.....'' God Bless Tony Joe "... Thanks For All The Music Man ....The Coolest Swamp Fox Ever ! ! !
If you played guitar back then you knew who this guy was. One great original. Good memories. I was just picking on my John Mayer silver sky se, I put it back in the case. Started thinking of Polk salad Annie, didn’t know who wrote it. I saw Tony Joe on the Mike douglas show back then, he killed it. Just a great natural talent. Subscribed.
Great to see this what a great bloke a real character and fantastic musician remember poke as a kid of 15 loved the feel of it even though I'm a Lancashire lad from the North couldn't get further away from Tony's roots rip Tony you left a good impression on the simple Lancashire lad
Beautiful interview.. Only all interviewers were as well researched ans as respectful And listened as well as the interviewer on this.. Well done..
sir...
God bless the Swamp fox... Love from Ireland ❤☘️🦊
Tony Joe is so laid back.
He’s like a hot afternoon
drinking a beer on the porch.
Tony Joe White is so cool. Seems like a great guy.
It's hard to believe Tony Joe White is five years gone. Time is flyin' by so fast it's scary. Live for today 'cause it's all ya got and there's no guarantees for tomorrow. Rest In Peace Tony Joe.🙏🎸☮
Open and Honest, nothing too hide..How RARE.
What a wonderful MAN!
Along with J.J Cale... An original laid back.. genius.
Tony is so Humble. He was Truly Blessed and so Talented. He will live Forever in Music History. And the Hearts and Souls of His Fans. He is surely in Heaven.
I think this guys music is absolutely awesome . Unfortunately i have only came across his music within the last 7 months or so , but i must admit i have fallen in love with it all . God Bless you TJW
Tony Joe is a legend around Corpus Christi, Tx. Roy Head was from Three Rivers, Tx.
Hearing him tell stories about south Tx is so cool.
Tony Joe is Peerless & Timeless, Miss You, Swamp Rock & Rest In Peace!
I’ve enjoyed Tony Joe’s music since I was 12.. My big sis was in a record club and the record cover sucked me in I guess (leather & slung guitar) so I played the album.. Polk Salad Annie and a follower since.
He came over on tour of Aussie playing at a really old tiny venue up here in the mountains. My table was a barely metre from him and I was staying there.. After the show raced upstairs on returning down met personally at the base of the stairs. Wow !! He lifted my hand kissed it it and said “It’s a pleasure mam.”
Really, listening to the music and his voice over the years has been truely grand a joy. So missed…
Swampsoul 0oke Sally was the song I sung walking Georgia dirt roads when I was a kid.
Very cool story for a young Aussie Gal
Tony Joe was a original! So soulful. Wonderful interview.
Fantastic interview, thanks for the upload
I enjoyed Tony Joe White from back in the day when he came out with "Polk Salat" and remember when Elvis Presley said when he was in a room with a bunch of women and Tony Joe came into the room every one of the women moved over to him. I didn't know "Rainy Night in Georgia" was written by him for several years although I bought the Brooks Benton LP with it on there so I should have known because his name would have been on it. Cornell Dupree's lead guitar work on Benton's version really changed the song. He could tell so many stories about so many people. RIP
He was one of the greatest pickers and singer.Too bad we lost him.He was awesome
Having been a fan since his first album, I was ecstatic to finally see him live at the Borderline in London in 2004 - he didn't disappoint. My favourite song of all time is TJW's The Migrant from his 'Continued' album, and the only song he ever recorded twice (different version on 'The Train I'm On' album). Great to see people still discovering and loving his music 50+ years after it all began. Agree, interview was excellent.
This is priceless, insightful, honesty defined. Slurpy times indeed.
I wish I could have played with him back in my day. I have a similar style . I still play his music out people ask me who recorded that ,I tell em Tony jo white .
Just discovered his music today so naturally had to watch this. Great voice and the way he played a Strat.... ❤️
Tony Joe was truly 'Born on The Bayou'- he was good friends with John Fogerty, they shared a love for the deep south, swamp music, I had the good fortune to be at one of his appearances in Australia
❤️ Such a talented man
Love his work
What a fantastic interview. Awesome.
Being my wife is from Midwest Louisiana, I see the same slower, easier life, even today. Very interesting to see Tony Joe White tell it so honestly. Great video that really shows the man and his music.
Karl, she is from midwest Louisiana? I am from Ebarb in Sabine Parish. I have lived in Shreveport since 1977. Between 1962 and 1977 I lived in NYC. Thanks and best wishes. Lee Sepulvado.
I wished I had paid attention when he introduced "Polk".... but I was young, and life got in the way...now I'm missin him..
Had the privilege of seeing him perform at a blues festival in Australia some years ago. Just came across this interview, which shows him as a really natural, down to earth guy. Thanks for the opportunity to see him talking about his life and music.
G'Day, I saw him 3 times in Adelaide many years ago, awesome talent
One of my three major influences in teaching myself to play guitar. Love this cat.
I never liked Rainy night in Georgia
Until I heard Tony Joe do it !

He used to sing Polk Salad Annie at the Rondivue club in Kingsville years before Elvis Presley even heard of it let on sing it.

I have been a fan since buying an eight trach of T.J.W. in the 1970s, at a truck stop. Yup! G-G 😀😃😁
RIP TJW🎸🔥 🐊
The Sweet Inspiritations sang with Elvis. 😊
The Mighty Tony Joe White, The only music man to step up on stage and play music with a live wild snake strapped across his shoulder and another live tree hanging swamp snake in the back pocket of his jeans
Wow, VH1 used to not suck so bad. This couldn'ta been better.
Tony Joe White
❤️❤️❤️🥰👍👍👍👍
Epic story about Tina Turner from 28:38
There were times and people that thought and said Tony and Elvis were brothers? Or at least cousins.
There's 2 album covers from back when he was just first breaking out and radio was starting to play his records, and you won't believe me till you see it for yourself, but pic's on those covers look just like Elvis, as he grew older and the way he was wearing his hair ,he didn't look like Elvis at all, but in his younger years they were look alikes, that's where the rumors started, but their no relation ! First time I got to see him live in Charlotte at the orange tangerine, they built a stage just for him, inside and out was packed ! When the show was over there were about 60 to 80 women's panties on the grass in front of the stage and some were at least 50 ft back from the stage ! That was when he looked like Elvis ! There were a lot of wet women there that night, don't know how many went back to his hotel room but he could've had about 60 if he wanted to,! After that seen him in Atlanta and when I was 15 I hitch hiked from Charlotte to a little town right outside of baton rouge Louisiana to see Tony ! I remember how old I was because highway patrol rolled up on me check me out and said well boy you don't even have a driver's license I said that's right I'm not old enough yet ! My mom didn't even know I had left town ! I've loved tony's music for a long time now ! Was so saddened to hear he was no longer with us, but boy he left his mark ! THANKS TONY FOR SHARING YOUR TALENT WITH THE WORLD ! IM 69 yrs old now and I still search for Tony's music that I've never heard, his best is in Europe when you can find it !
I know alot of people who love TJW as I do but Im sure they dont know about this interview. I accidentally came across it
