Totally refreshing to here a recording as it should be, no overdubbing or mixed to within an inch of its life. Just a guitar drums and a gravelly voice. Pure music. RIP TJW
Living as I do north of Lat49 we get little blues and absolutely no swamp music. At least not locally produced so we have to search much wider for good music. And stuff like this is the best. It's the real deal. Music from so far down south he's treading water in the Gulf of Mexico. The only guy who can pair up with only a drummer and make it sound fantastic. What an amazing life of music writing and playing. RIP Tony. Thank you for the wonderful tunes.
I have a ""weakness"" for Tony Joe White, since age 14 yrs, over here in Europe, ""Groupie Girl, Polk Salad Annie, Rainy Nights in Georgia,"" +- 1973? He did not make it to the top of pop. music, despite his very original music at that time, with lots of soul. T. wandered a lot in his choice of music during his long career, with good and (very bad) choices. Pressure from Record Co.? uncertain, hesitant in character, of which genre to succeed in the long run? But there are some real gems among his work in all these years. and he always tried his best. So I admire and respect him a lot. Attended a Dutch concert 2015 and wondered about his sitting down the whole performance on a small low stool all the time, was he already very ill? Still, TJW, thank you for your great swamp stuff, the blues, yr dark deep honest southern voice, your originality, ( I even play the disco albums once a while!) Pete in Holland
Great interview and performance by the Swamp Fox. RIP Tony Joe White. BTW, the song of Tony Joe's "Rain Crow' is a great one. The bird that he's referring to is the Yellow Bill Cuckoo, and it is not an extremely rare bird. Still it's a great song.
I haven't seen one since I was a little kid. They used to be bad to eat all the catalpa worms off the trees before we could harvest them for fish bait. I used to have a buddy who went to school with him. TJ was a few years older, and my friend was smallish; TJ would take up for him when kids would bully my friend. Oak Grove, La. I'm from just North of Alexandria. Listened to TJ since mid-60's.
i was out in a boat about 330am and i did see a great ball like someone was playing with it but i could see threw the ball and nobody was there it was funny
I would imagine many many people were influenced by the late great TJW. Being an avid songwriter as well. For music’s greatest such as Steamy Windows & Undercover Agent for the Blues, For 45:23 Tina Turner . Plus he was a huge back up player for many artists. The Legend Of The Man.
Im 61 been playing drums for 3 years and never knew about Tony and can't get enough of him now wanna join a band and this is the music I wanna play!!

He´s so chill, he makes Willie Nelson look hyperactive.

Wonder where that Strat is now...bet if it could talk it could tell some stories!!!
I can't prove it, but strongly suspect that TJ had a lot of influence on not only John Fogerty, but Mark Knopfler, as well...
TJ's main influences were John Lee Hooker, Elvis Presley & Lightnin' Hopkins.
