Hiking to Maras Salt Mines Without A Tour | PERU Travel Vlog

Join us as we explore the incredible Maras Salt Mines without a tour (it turned out to be a mix of public buses, trekking and hitchhiking!)

If you plan to get to Maras on your own without paying for a tour, here’s what you can do:
Get on the 9:30 am minibus heading to Ollantaytambo (ticket costs 10 Soles per person). Get off at Maras. Once in Maras, you’ll see bus drivers offering rides to the salt mines. You can go all the way to the salt mines entrance or you can get off at the beginning of the hiking trail like we did. From there, you’ll be hiking for about one hour. It’s a beautiful and serene path so if you have time and energy, we highly recommend this route!
