The stuttering lyrics were the singer Randy Bachman mimicking his brother Gary and apparently he never meant for that to be the released recording. Also Bachman was a founding member of The Guess Who.
I didn't know about the brother , but that's cool! 🤣 thanks ! ☮️
I heard that they were in the studio and he did the stutter as a joke, and when they went to actually record he dropped the stutter. The producer said”wait why are you doing it different now?” He said “oh we were just joking around with that” the producer told them to keep it in…. Good call
The song was originally just simple chords the band played ad lib for sound checks. The band did the standard vocals like “check one two three” to balance the audio. Randy’s brother had a stutter so Randy was initially just doing sibling teasing and made up some lines. They were all laughing and the audience loved it. Randy was very reluctant to record it, but it became a hit.
@@bonsaiguy2483 Ironically, people who stutter when talking usually don't when they sing. I always found that fascinating.
@@bonsaiguy2483 Yes, that's how it happened.
Randy Bachman. Rob Bachman. Fred Turner. Blair Thornton. The Fab Four of Canadian Rock. You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet...
Fall of 1974 lets go back Seniors Class of 75 best ever ❤
My generation are called boomers and man did we have the most bomb musicians. The list is endless of great singers, songwriters and musicians from the 60s and 70s.
Winnipeg, Manitoba , Canada, Baby !! I live here, and this is still on the radio to this day !! Everyone calls them BTO.
Written & performed as an homage to Randy Bachman's brother who had a stutter as a child.
cf turner still has that awesome gravely singing voice
I think the stutter is perfect. This girl is blowing his mind. She's so good it's making him stutter.
I know it was originally a joke but the stutter works perfectly for the song.
Their Roll Down the Highway is the perfect 70's song.
Randy Bachman wrote great songs both for BTO and for the Guess Who before that. Just a great musician and a great guy as well.
Such a good jam….try “Let It Ride” and “Taking Care of Business” next.
The 80s was a non-stop party, but turning on the radio in the 70s was special.
Bachman created the stutter singing style because he didn't have a great or memorable voice otherwise. His partner in The Guess Who, Burton Cummings, had the greatest voice in the world at the time. When Bachman left to start Bravebelt, he felt he was left without a signature identity. Then when he joined up with Fred Turner for BTO, he knew he needed something to help his voice stand out. This did it. He used the stutter on a number of follow-up BTO songs as well. Genius.
"Roll On Down The Highway ~ 1974 ..........Another great rock song!!
"Takin' Care Of Business" and "Let It Ride" are a couple of other great BTO songs.
Yes! Both!
Highly underrated band. A lot of good songs. Next try Four Wheel Drive, Let It Ride or Takin Care Of Business.
TCB Yeah!! Every day! Every Way!!
Beat me to it commenting on how underrated BTO are. They recorded so many different styles of songs brilliantly but when they rocked they were right up there.
Rest in peace, Robbie Bachman (drummer).
That was my time. Born in the 60s and raised in the 70s. We had the prettiest girls the best music and the best cars.
Hey You, Taking Care of Business, a few more among many………
The 70s were definitely...definitely...the king era of guitar solos. Keyboard and drums too.
Yup. Deep Purple’s keyboard player John Lord (RIP) and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore definitely were what the the 70s was all about.
That's because they had real drummers instead of programed, and no synthesizers (which have no soul!)
I seen them live in 1975 in Heidelburg Germany while in Army
The drummer, Robbie Bachman, Randy's brother passed away 2 days ago. All the great artists are slowly being lost...so sad. Rest in Peace, brother.
Also a founding member of BTO..
So sorry to hear ! Prayers for the family and friends
RIP Robbie! Great drummer. Vestly underrated!
@@marksimpson2321 you are so right!
Yep. We lost Gordon Lightfoot yesterday. RIP Gordie.
Best song ever is Taking Care of Business.
Yes, they should definitely react to "Taking Care of Business" for sure!
Respectfully, I argue that Let it Ride is their greatest hit. But it is a different vibe.
Jay/Amber, their "Taking Care Of Business" is a banger, adding some piano!!
I’m a 70 s kid. All the seventies song are great. Even the bad ones are way better than any of todays music.
because they are real people making a real effort. and even when it doesn't hit on all cylinders it's still got something to appreciate.
The lead singer for BTO was the lead guitarist for the Guess Who for a few years!
The seventies were the days for sure! We took it for granted that music would just get better and better! Man we were wrong!
Way better than today!
For example back then they actually played instruments and sang with their real voices
Guitar driven rock and roll! Nothing better than the 70’s!
BTO: Takin care of business is the song you need to do!
I was a big fan! There were not a lot of Canadian rock groups back then, but this was one I loved!
Luv you channel!
Stay safe, stay sane, be well
we need to talk about rob bachman playing DRUMS. lots of tom work back and forth with the snare. melodically. tasty . as a drummer I just love this song.
BTO = the soundtrack of my youth. 1974 I was 12. Discovered Rush about the same time - prob. 13 for that. 1970's music was/is matchless.
Canadian 🇨🇦 rock n roll
Yes The 70s rock was so much better
That’s Randy Bachman singing on this song
Fred Turner (bass player) is the lead singer
You will hear a difference
Taking care of business is their best song
1970s had the BEST music of ALL time!!!
🙏🏻RIP 🙏🏻Bobbie Bachman 01 13 2023
BTO was one of Canada's finest bands. I haven't listened to their music for ages. This was a nice music memory. Thanks for the upload and the real reaction.
Don’t forget April Wine!🙂
@@jessicabelle2011 Yes!! I dated the first drummer of April Wine. He quit because he felt they weren't going anywhere... He was sorta dumb but really cute! Haha!
I don't think y'all were meant for another era. I think you were meant for this one, to make sure mine doesn't die with me.
❤
Us 70s babies need youngsters like you to carry our torch. And your babies will do the same for you.
That’s a great way to look at it 🙋🏻♀️
TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!!!
Amen.
Amen!!!!!
She's lovin' this while wearing a Stevie Nicks shirt.
Randy Bachman.... was also in the Guess Who with Burton Cummings
Perfect song because you two ain't seen nothing yet!! It's a gold mine out there! Keep it up, you're doing excellent work
Randy Bachman first gained fame as a member of The Guess Who, who you've only done one reaction to(I think). Together with Burton Cummings, they were a powerhouse song writing team. Check out American Woman, Hang Onto Your Live, and one of my personal favorites, Undun.
Other than Three Dog Night, The Guess Who deserve the RRHOF before anyone else. 🎸☮️
The power of the intentional stutter.
Damn, you took the words right out of my mouth lol.
Guess Who was my very first live concert! I was 13 and got a front row seat, very exciting, lol. Remember this song well.
Undun is such a great and unique song.
Apparently, that bbbbbbbaby was not supposed to be in the song. Story goes, his brother had a stutter that they teased him about. He was teasing his brother and didn't know they were recoding it. They decided to keep it. The brother was good with the teasing - no worries :)
Randy Bachman
Born and bread in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada!
And founder of the Guess Who from Winnipeg!!
...and THAT is what the 70's we're all lololol about. Brings back so many memories. 😀
Amber you are so right, the 70s were the best music era. I was 16-26 during that decade and although I love the music from the 60s, nothing will ever outshine the music of the 70s. Love y'all for all the wonderful memories!!😎😎😎😎
I'am with you Raynie. I turned 17 at the beginning of the 70's decade. I like 60's music, but the 70's music was something special.
It was the most diverse decade. Soft rock, hard rock, other kinds of rock, phenomenal R&B and disco. And the best singers, too. Didn"t know Randy Bachman was in The Guess Who. Jay and Amber you need to revisit them. Do American Woman (Lenny Kravitz covered this) or Undun. A great group.
Exact same age. Was at DMV on my 16th birthday - now kids don't care to drive, would rather have Uber take them. Of course along with music cars were fun then too. Used my summer job money to buy a five year old Mustang which would be worth its weight in gold now for like 300 bucks or so.
Probably one of the most underrated Canadian bands ever!
Bachman was in The Guess Who...Far from underrated.
Not in my house!
Yep. We lost Gordon Lightfoot yesterday. RIP Gordie.
@@WhyTheLongFace01 also lost Tim Bachman , Randy Bachman confirmed the death of his brother through his manager on Sunday.
@@tony--james : Wow. Sorry to hear that.
I'm feelin' really old, all of a sudden.
BTO, masters at rhythm and lead guitar songs!
This Canadian band can really rock and had quite a few bangers. TAKIN' CARE OF BUSINESS, GIMME YOUR MONEY PLEASE and LET IT RIDE are pure rock and roll. So many great groups came from Canada like the Guess Who, Rush, April Wine, Nickelback and the Band.
Steppenwolf, Ronnie Hawkins, Cowboy Junkies.....
and Trooper, Triumph, Chilliwack, LightHouse, Tragically Hip...yikes...Oh Canada !

B.T.O. is such a great band. Definitely do Takin’ Care Of Business next. Their most famous song and some great guitar playing on it. Also, Randy Bachman was in The Guess Who, and they had a number of great songs too.
American woman!!!
How about Not Fragile, Gimme Your Money Please and Hey You.

"Roll on Down the Highway",
"Let it Ride"
So many great BTO songs!
@@LiberalsArePoop American Woman is by The Guess Who...which included Randy Bachman. A good choice as well
Amazing bit of trivia about Bachman's "stutter" in this. When they were recording it in the studio, he improvised it because his brother was there & he was poking fun at him... his brother had a stutter since childhood. Everyone liked it so much, they left it in the final recording.
Eric, I was hoping someone would mention this, and as you did, say it as it was, teasing a brother. Not making fun of stutterers.
Thank you for sharing this. I was going to say it.
Yes, I think he was ready to record a 'real' take, and the producer or somebody said 'That's it. That's a hit. Your done with that one'
I got to see Randy Bachman back in the 90's at Tulsa City Limits. Epic concert!! Epic place!!
It's blues, country, rock & just such a great, great song.
Not sure which decade I enjoyed the 70's or the 80's but both were full of great styles, great music, and for the most part super good vibes. Funny story about this song, the original track did not include the stutter of the Randy Bachman the singer, and former lead guitarist from The Guess Who, but Randy's brother who has a stutter sang the song in between takes, Randy loved the sound and decided to record it that way....just another rock n roll story....lol
Hope you play more BTO like Roll On Down The Highway, my favourite!😁
Peace & Love
🙏❤
Don't forget "Taking care of business"
The rock music of the 1970s easily was much better than the music of the 1980s. Just my opinion!
Now you need to hear "Takin' Care of Business".
It's simple. It's good music. Amber you definitely have 70's in your blood.
Let it roll, has the best guitar licks ever!!!!’ So high energy and up beat
The BTO song that everyone remembers is "Taking Care of Business"
oh I remember that one too but . this is the best one..
If you just shorten the band's name to BTO, every rocker will know who you mean.
Love your reaction to this, one of my all-time favorite feel-good songs! "Ba-ba-ba baby, you ain't HEARD nothing yet!" until you listen to "Takin' Care Of Business"! Both are great BTO songs.
I was a teenager in the 70’s, the best decade for music! 😁❤️
100 percent.
LET IT RIDE !!! Studio version
Such a fun band to listen & dance to!! Yes, next do “Taking Care of Business “, you will even love it more!!
♥️The old white woman
Totally agree!!😊
Don't forget "Roll On Down The Highway".
That's what I was going to say, Takin' Care of Business!!
Back in high school, we called WQAM in Miami & dedicated 'Taking Care of Business' to whatever school it was that we were playing football against that coming Friday night! If you know So. Florida football, you probably know that Okeechobee lost that game! But it was ballsy back then!
And "Hey You" and "Four Wheel Drive"
Takin' Care Of Business is another great song by BTO
Born in 1976. Gorgeous partner from 1964. When I do nice things for him I always say "you ain't seen nothing yet". Although my eyes are blue not brown. I LOVE your channel!
Takin Care of Business & Let It Ride! 2 other great songs. 70s forever! Best teen years!
BTO was driving force of rock in the 70's. My personal favorite is "Roll On Down the Highway," but you can't go wrong with "Let It Ride," or "Takin' Care of Business."
The lead singer on this song is Randy Bachman. His son, Tal Bachman had a hit in ‘99 with “She’s So High” which you should react to.
I was gonna make this comment, glad someone mentioned it. Tals song was very good and a big hit!
I didn’t realize that was his son! Tals song is awesome!!
Absolutely! Please react to "She's so High" by Randy Bachman's son Tal Bachman!
The 70s was the era of Guitar Rock.
This is Randy Bachman who was the lead guitarist for the Guess Who, American Woman, with the great Burton Cummings
My personal favorite is the very hard hitting “Let It Ride”. There are 2 main singers in this group. This guy also takes the lead on the infamous “Taking Care Of Business”. The other singer has a much harder “rock” voice which I prefer and he sings lead on the hits “Let It Ride” and “Roll On Down The Highway”
*Randy Bachman was in "The Guess Who" before this, who did many great songs such as: American Woman__No Time__These Eyes__No Sugar Tonight__Hand Me Down World__Laughing__and more. When this came out...we lived in a house with a stereo mounted in a wall, and full house-speaker system. My brother would put this album on and play it throughout the house.*
The Guess Who was great, "These Eyes" to me, was probably the most annoying song I've ever heard. Sounds like Burton Cummings couldn't think of enough lyrics for it.
@@stevechristy3244 for me is their best song haha. Regards from Chile!
Yeah! We had speakers mounted in the walls in the corners of every room in the house and all you had to do was flip a switch by the light switch to turn them on. ✌😃👍
@@billyf2833 Yep...those were the days (early 70s). Ours was likely very similar. Could turn on speakers in selected rooms from where the stereo was mounted or from the room you were in.
After BTO he released 2 more albums with a few good songs under the name Ironhorse.
Brother..... your wife is really one special Lady ! She's got the ear for absolutely some of the best music that's ever been recorded I grew up listening to these boys right here and I'll tip my hat to anyone that gives this kinda music the credit it really deserves .
B T O was the original half of "THE GUESS WHO" until Randy and Robbie teamed with Turner to share lead singing and co-write songs. ALL CANADIAN BAND
Randy started as "the GUESS WHO" and followed with "BTO" and is often in interviews still. A real CANADIAN talented group. You guys don't realize how OFTEN of the material is either written by a Canadian or also performed by Canadian talent as well.
The guitar Randy is playing will have a documentary about it in the near future. It was his favorite and he composed many hits on it. It was stolen in the mid 1970s and he had searched for it ever since. A man read about it and went on a quest to find it. He was a able to identify the unique wood pattern and found it being played by a musician in Japan. Randy agreed to buy the guy another similar guitar to get his back. He has yet to fly to Japan to recover it.
U are right that was our vibe. The music instructed us seems always calm~ loving~adventurous but never in a bad way READ the documentary where that sound came from but search and discover u be blown away
I was growing up when they hit America and after a while they were simply B.T.O! 🤟🤟🤟
Randy Bachman was part of The Guess Who & then went on to have a solo career with BTO. Both were great Canadian rock bands. BTO had a lot of great songs in the 70's such as "Let It Ride", "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet", "Takin' Care Of Business", "Hey You", "Roll On Down The Highway", "Lookin' Out For #1" etc.
Their song 'Hey You' definitely deserves a listen. The best of BTO in their prime.
Great suggestion….LOVE Hey You! Once it was playing in the radio when I went through a Tim Hortons drive through and I just kept singing along when I pulled up to the window.
Forgot about that one. Good call!
The 70's was my era...simply the best.
One of my favorite songs of all time. R.I.P. Robbie Bachman.
The Not Fragile album is Gold!
And Randy Bachman was with The Guess Who too.
The album Everything is Gray by Ironhorse is also a very good album.
They were a great band; please do more reaction’s to them. Love you guys.❤️🙏🏽
B.T.O. “Takin’ Care Of Business”, and “Roll On Down The Highway” ❤️🇨🇦
Great Canadian band! They are awesome at outdoor concerts!
This song was absolutely huge in 1974. Randy Bachman's brother was the bands manager for a time and he stuttered. This song was a bit of a teas from older brother Randy to his younger brother but wasn't supposed to be on the album...until the record company heard it and said "this song is going to be a huge hit!". Went to number one in 22 countries!
I read back in the day that he didn't think he could hold a note so he 'chopped' it LOL If you watch the special where he and the guess who guy did together in like 2005(?) the guess who dude teases the sellout of him about it.
He absolutely did NOT have a stutter, it was just how he decided to sing this song. None of his other songs had any stutter in them, and his regular talking voice never had any kind of stutter. Stop making up lies.
@@onetruthmediacompany Randy Bachman didn't studder, his brother did. Randy told the story himself on his concert dvd "Every Song Tells a Story". Randy tells the audience a little story about how each song came about before performing it. It's one of my favorite dvd's. You should pick up a copy if you can but I believe they're getting hard to find, and expensive. Have a wonderful Sunday!
@@onetruthmediacompany You are right1 I never meant that he had a literal stutter though. Easy there! LOL
I remember hearing about this and am so glad they demanded it be on the album. It was a joke song to rib his brother and just meant as filler while they were figuring out other things. And it is truly an amazing song. I think my favorite of theirs is looking out for number 1, but this is up there for sure.
Robbie Bachman, the drummer, was on fire here. RIP
This song is another reason why I loved growing up listening to the music from the 70's.
Always loved this song ! Loved growing up in the 70’s too , most people were so chill and laid back or maybe just the people I was around but I don’t think so because you see that in movies and such from that time as well! man it was an awesome time to be alive and I loved every dang minute of it . My kids laugh at the music I listen to and my hippie clothes 😂
Looking back now (I'm 70) it was amazing how from New York to Los Angeles and Washington to Florida we were all on the same page groovin' to the same vibe, fighting for the same issues and looking for love and peace. A whole nation of young people united by our music. And all we had was landlines, snail mail, and 3 TV channels!🔥🤣❤✌
Well said Dana, it was a special time. I think we may have been the last generation to have a basically carefree childhood. My kids make fun of the music too but then I find this song pop up on her “Oldies” playlist
I L L L L L LOVE this song !!!
This is a great song, another great one is Taking Care of Business.
There's NO music like the music in the 70's!!!!
Love, love, love💖💖💖
BTO is one of my fave groups of all time. Amber, if you had been around in the 70s, we would have taken you to the concert with us! So much fun! Randy Bachman (lead singer) was a former member of The Guess Who. Loved your reaction😊
Rob would like BTO's sledgehammer-the song sounds like the title-heavy riff that rocks!! Other BTO hits include-Let It ride, roll On Down the Highway and Shotgun Rider. If you like cowbells-check out the Chamber Brothers-The time Has Come Today and the group Mountain with Mississippi Queen.
Mountain - YES!! Love that band and their popular song Mississippi Queen!
Yes, Sledgehammer and there were a number of great songs that weren't hits, but soooo good. Reactors don't get into the non hit music much, so miss a lot!
Also "The Rapper" by The Jaggerz for cowbell!
Chambers Brothers!! yes!!! "Time Has Come Today"!!!
oh yeah "Time Has Come Today" - so good.
R.I.P. Robbie Bachman-(Drummer)
Love BTO. Randy Bachman was with The Guess Who.
This is my favorite B.T.O song but when I was a kid my sister had the 45 "Hey You" which I recommend. They do seem like a fun band.
While being 60 might not sound like a benefit, living through these musical periods and how each song connected to my life is something that is organic. It is as if these songs were trading cards coming out one at a time, sometimes in bunches with connections to one another and still able to fan them out mentally. I am glad you are finding new music you love and sharing it with others. BTO was big and really different at the time.
Well said! As a fellow 60+ this is a thrill to watch our songs come back via these reaction videos. RSR has that excited new discovery approach that is a kick. A&A has a more cerebral reaction but with depth and a musical background. It is all awesome to me.
I only met Randy once. Very kind and respectful guy.
I was so lucky to grow up during the 70s and enjoyed all the talent
"B.T.O" as we affectionately called them always had this driving sound. Funny thing about that song and the stutter thing that Randy performed came about from him teasing his little brother who came into the sound studio, and he started to make fun of his speech problem. It ended up in the song and many other artists started using the stutter i.e. The Who, Elton John and so on.
Roger Daltrey used the stutter in The Who classic My Generation in 1965, years before this came out.
@@mookie7688 exactly! Daltrey was imitating the speed popping Mods of early 60's London
