    This one and Mary Jane's last dance are my favorite Tom Pretty songs. He was a man of integrity and a good friend in spite of his own problems. In an interview Stevie Nicks said when she felt like she was at her lowest in rehab, she asked him to write her a number 1 hit. He hugged her and told her no. He said " You have the power to recreate yourself and be successful again. She went on to write Landslide after that. Good friends oftentimes know you better than you know yourself.

    Practically Stevie Nicks and the Heartbreakers! I loved Stevie Nicks in the 80s, and Tom Petty! My friend and I rocked to this song when it came out. Her debut solo album had a ton of hits!

    Stevie LOVED performing with Tom and wanted to be in the Heartbreakers. Tom said in an interview that he loved his collaborations with Stevie,, but there were "no girls in his band." (although he did occasionally have female backup singers on tour)

    @centuryrox Před 2 lety

    This song came out in 1981, near the beginning of Tom's career. He had been around for years before, but didn't really achieve national recognition until about 2 years before with his hit "Don't Do Me Like That" in 1979, and "Refugee" the next year. Stevie, on the other hand, was already at legend status with her singing with Fleetwood Mac through the mid 70s.

    Stevie Nicks' "debut" solo album, "Bella Donna" is a wonderful work that flows so well from first track to the last one. If you can find her "White Wing Dove" concert that was shown on HBO back in the early 80s, I recommend giving it a watch! She and her band did a fantastic job on that show.

    Stevie ask Tom twice if she could join the Heartbreakers. She was willing to leave Fleetwood Mac to join him and the band. But Tom just told her "there are No girls in the Heartbreakers " also she had been bugging Tom to write a song for a while. Every time he had one he'd change his mind and keep for himself. That's why this one ended up a duet. He just couldn't let go.
