The guy introducing America is Paul Williams. He is a composer, songwriter and singer. And also acts. He is behind a couple of the Carpenter songs you reacted to.
He wrote Evergreen and the Rainbow Connection among many others. Maybe it's time for a dive into song writers and the work that they have produced.
He was in Smokey and the Bandit..
Darn! I was going to ask if he knew who the blond, short, shit was! I was always in love with Williams music. :)
Just love that sound.America is all about the music. Those harmonies.Wow.
I had forgot Paul Williams had a show.Bringing back those memories.Thanks.
He was also the Orangutan in the original planet of the apes
America was just so SMOOTH! An underrated gem from them is “Only In Your Heart”.
Right !! Loved those guys and their songs from the very beginning, A horse with no name, loved it all.
*America.... (LONELY PEOPLE)* Is the best song by America!
And the great Paul Williams, a legend himself. He actually helped on the multi-Grammy award winning album "Random Access Memories" by Daft Punk.
I loved him in Smokey & The Bandit🤪
70’s Heaven...period. 50 years old and still going strong...well,before Covid.Saw them at end of 2019...still sound great.Love your reviews...especially this one.
Thanks. Great song, even better band. Vastly under rated.
You've done it again !! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Ooooh, this one will get so stuck in your head… 🔥
People don't seem to understand that the human voice is the hardest instrument in the world to master and takes just as much practice or more.
I saw America live a few years ago. They were just as good then as they were back in the day. And I sincerely forgot just how many hits they had. Such a feel good group.
My favorite of theirs along with Ventura Highway and Tin Man. This is just so groovy and poppy. Their harmonies are fire. 🔥 I love the lyrics I get sucked in!!
That’s why The Midnight Special is so special. It was the only true live
program at the time. Even then, a few acts are synced. It had absolutely
nothing to do with the artists talent.
I saw America in 2004 at the Sacramento Community Theater for the first time in my life. They were Amazing!!!! They sang this song. Everyone clapped and sang with them. Amazing Folk Group, definitely among the gods of Folk Rock along with CSNY. You should do reaction marathon of the folk rock groups of the 60's 70's 80's 90's & 21st century like 2021. That would be an Amazing historical journey.
Favourite Band thanks for your reactions pleased you have enjoyed there Music. Love your Channel keep up the good work
This has been one of my favourite songs since forever and I think you're the first one who reacted to it, so big ups and thanks for that. That being said I hate those ridiculous fake live performances lol. I mean, at least connect the guitars to something...
I think it’s just been over dubbed actually. The guitars are acoustic
Love this band. Takes me back. Thanks for a great reaction.
When I was 10-12 years old (1981-83), I attended the Montana Tech basketball camp (Butte, MT), and at that time Kelvin Sampson (coach at University of Houston now) was the head coach. In the afternoon if your team wasn't playing, you could either go swimming or downstairs to watch Tech highlight films on VHS. I definitely went downstairs more to watch the guys I tried to be like. Anyway, they had the highlights to this song, and every time I hear it I think of Coach Sampson, Cevin Johnson (CJ), Terran Carter, Brian Vaughns, Kent "Ice Man" Andre, and the rest of the Orediggers. Luckily enough I was coached by Coach Carter in 8th grade junior high basketball. Just wanted to share a LUCKY break in life. Much love and respect 🤙!
Paul Williams co-wrote the song “Evergreen”:which was a big hit for Barbara Streisand in the movie “ A Star is Born”. The song won a Grammy for best song and an Oscar for best original song. If you ever listen to that song listen to the album version without Kristofferson singing on it. Streisand’s voice, the lyrics and the music..it’s a masterpiece of music.
This isn't just my fave by them, but it's one of my faves of that era (early 80s).
Great harmonies!!! Need more harmonies? "Lyin Eyes" by The Eagles
Along with America, you need to get back into Bread. Both groups have the sound you seem to really enjoy. For Bread to should listen to their song "Everything I Own".
This song reminds me of On and On by Stephen Bishop. Give it a listen and you'll see what I mean...great reaction
He’s got some great songs.
That is a great song try it on and on
These guys are simply great!
Thanks Chod! A couple of other great (among many) America tunes are, All My Life, and Only in My Heart! 💕
A great song. Thanks for the video!
Thanks so much for playing this Chod, I suggested it a while ago.😉 One of their best.
Their parent were in the army and they met while their parents were stationed in Germany. I love the harmonies and vibe also.
Whoop Whoop!!! 😁😁😁😁
America is very talented band the original, there is also a cover of this song performed by Franz rhythm, a young family band from the Philippines composed of father, son & 2 daughters, they got many followers & subscribers too.
chad you haven't played any of my request yet probably because I'm 75 and a lot of people don't know the singers I request. I haven't saw anyone react to the band I am going to request but they were one of the best blues and boogie bands of the 60s, would you please play ( Fried Hockey Boogie (Remastered 2005) by Canned Heat you won't be disappointed and it would be a nice 76th birthday I'm having Sunday, thank you.💚♬🤘
Love Canned Heat. Happy Birthday Brother...
Love Canned Heat too
love this song, ive done a couple of House remixes of it. So many good parts to it. It's simple, yet complex.
Great song! Love it! 💕
This is a great song.
They were lip syncing to the studio version.
Notice how none of the instruments had cords going to any amps? And this was way before wireless.
The lead vocalist may have had a live mic and could have been singing along with the recording, but this was definitely the studio recording.
The ironic thing is that the official video is essentially the exact same thing except they're wearing different clothes.
It sounds exactly identical to the studio version I've heard over the years. Yes, they're lip syncing.
Of course they're lip-syncing, they're on a promotional tour for their new album. It's not their choice, they're contractually obligated by the record label to lip-sync during promotional appearances when launching a new album. (Which, just as Paul Williams said, this was exactly that.) Virtually all the record labels had that build into the contract. They invested a shit-ton of money in an album, they weren't gonna chance losing record sales due to one of the myriad things that could go wrong in a truly live performance, seen by hundreds of thousands of potential customers.
The drummer usually gives it away every time, but when you don't even bother with cords for the guitars, well...
Thats definitely the studio version.
It sounds exactly like the studio version. Back then, lots of bands lip-synched so that it would sound good.
At the very end it sounds like it was cut to the stage mic and off of the studio recording.
Usually it was insisted upon by the record labels when the band was going around promoting a new album--which is exactly this case. But yeah, I've seen America in concert where they were actually live, and they sounded exactly like their studio recordings--it was awesome! They're my 3rd favorite group!
The song SANDMAN is the one song like a rock Jam try it
I have tickets to see these guys in October. Can't wait!!
Lots of live videos out there 😎
Great song written by a great song writer, Russ Ballard. He was a member of Argent , wrote God gave rock n roll to you, which was covered by Kiss, wrote Since you been gone , covered by Rainbow, Free me covered by Roger Daltrey, amongst many others.
Nice one! Definitely check out their songs Sandman and I Need You
Written by Russ Ballard, lead singer and guitarist of the band Argent!! He also wrote "Since You've Been Gone" by Rainbow which you reacted to not too long ago.
I was hoping for the music video version. It's the same track because they're lipsinging. It's all good because I like your reactions. Thanks!
You should watch the film Phantom of the Paradise with Paul Williams it is a classic he wrote the entire score and songs in the film
America/Daisy Jane studio version
Love this song omg only the 80s🥰🥰🥰🥰🇹🇹
I suggest a real rocker- Billy Squier- Lonely Is The Night and Everyone Wants You.
Definitely more pop than southern sound of their 70s hit. But still great though.
👍👍🇺🇸
Chod, yes, they're lip-syncing. It's because they're on a promotional tour for their new album. It's not their choice, they're contractually obligated by the record label to lip-sync during promotional appearances when launching a new album. (Which, just as Paul Williams said, this was exactly that.) Virtually all the record labels had that build into the contract. They invested a ton of money in an album, they weren't gonna chance losing record sales due to one of the myriad things that could go wrong in a truly live performance, seen by hundreds of thousands of potential customers. Having said that, I have seen America in concert when they were fully live, and it was incredible how great they sounded, musically and vocally. Next from America, try their beautiful hit, "Daisy Jane". (To be safe, use the studio version.)
The 1st' performance ? yeah from 1980
You need to do America's "Old Man Took" from their "Holiday" album.
Also "Donkey Jaw" Great stuff.
Written by the great Russ Ballard. Check HIM out...
Hey Chod, new subscriber (lol)
American has been in my collection for over 30 years, never got to see them in concert, except on Television many years ago. If possible could you revist Kenny Wayne Shepherd (I Am A King Bee) live. Need to experience Kenny live he has Stevie Ray Vaughan style playing and Chris Layton, SRV'S former drummer. And you get great organ/keys.
Thanks. .PEACE
Gotta do Horse With No Name
I'll be seeing them in Laughlin, in a couple of moths.
I love their song "The Border." Check it out!
3 military brats made it big….they were good, could have been better in my opinion…they were talented
I've got a new request for you, way off the mainstream. it's a song called "Savannah Dance" by Deep Forest. Good stuff.
React to "Are you there"
Hey Wilburn will you please react to pilot's magic
How about some Julian Lennon? "Valotte"
Some more YACHT ROCK for ya. This was *sorta* live - it's pretty obvious they were lip synching.
Please try Angelina Jordan. Immense talent.
Gross. She's too young to be singing the adult material they give her.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE NEVER REACT TOO JJ GREY AND MOFRO LIVE VERSION OF LOCHLOOSA IT'S TOO GOOD FOR THIS CHANNEL AND YOUR SUBSCRIBERS THEY COULDN'T EVEN HANDLE IT. THANKS
Not a good video pick. Not live, lip sync and not in stereo. You would do better with a lyric video. Better sound quality and in stereo.
