Thaksin Shinawatra bought Manchester City in 2007, but was owner for only 13 months. He was a deposed leader, had his finances frozen, and managed to double his money when he sold the club to Sheikh Mansour in 2008. This video examines the lead up to, and the duration of, his short time at Manchester City.

#mancity #shinawatra #mcfc - Sport
A forgotten highlight of the Shinawatra era was the purchase of Vincent Kompany for £6 million about a month before the club was sold to the Abu Dhabi group.
wow that last bit of the video really hits hard
m mnk Asian billionaires may invest in European football, but do they know what football means to people there, what a proper grassroots football culture is like?
The idea of financial "aliens" investing in a very historically and culturally dense sport might not sound attractive but is it a necessity for these billionaires to understand fully what football is in europe? Some might say that because of these asian football mongers, European football is what and where it is today, continuing their legacy and creating new memories. Money to a certain level, does overweigh culture in football because for a football culture to be grown, money is a necessity.
Don't let this distract you from the fact that Man Utd spent £180 million last season and finished 6th
Kurt Zouma Don't let this distract you from the fact that Chelsea got rejected by Lukaku, Llorente, Ox, sold Matic and replaced him with Drinkwater
AsianMovieNerd because bakayoko just wasn't bought to replace matic ok kid 😂😂😂😂😂😂
6th and won 2 trophies whilst City spent £200m and won zilch
Mae Runway city are shit
who the fuck says zilch
Fantastic video guys :) As a Thai citizen who loves both football and politics, I am absolutely delighted that you guys have given us some exposure and made this video in a very non-biased way. I don't want to say too much given that this is still a very sensitive subject in Thailand, but the video was very well executed and there are no factual points which I would disagree with. Fantastic video, keep it up :)
Nice try with Thai pronunciations, as a non-native speaker I feel your pain
Chang mai lmao
A lot of CZcams channels seem to be going stale, but this one is definitely on the rise! These videos are well put and very informative.
I don't know if you guys do requests, but a video explaining the UEFA Nations League would be much appreciated.
Thaksin left us in an awful position financially and we could well have been another Leeds or Portsmouth. His 'big-money' signings were all paid with borrowed money with big interest fees. Thank goodness that ADUG came in and immediately wrote off those debts and transformed the club forever.
Great video - please continue videos relating to the finance of football ! TY
Good Animation 👍👍
Next, do Sheikh Mansour
2:37 Diego Costa?
> "42 years a City fan, asks to be buried on the pitch after his death"
> Rival fans yet to hit puberty: "oh but City have no fans ("lol" "lmao" "emoji emoji")"
Big JellyEel we know you have fans. The argument is that you don't have enough fans for the size that you claim you are. Stop trying to twist shit to fit your narrative. Manchester is red
Well, it kinda fits that his ashes are buried in the pitch. The Emptyhad is quieter than a cemetery
Whatever the ethiad has a shit atmosphere more noise in a cemetery a small club as well
Oh cmon seriously. Outside of UK nobody even fucking heard about city let alone thought about there being 2 clubs from Manchester!!! You were a wee club and nothing more and then suddenly you get a sugar daddy and all of a sudden you have gloryhunters from each hole of the world lurking at the prospect of supporting this new club.
Mahone United have a lot glory hunting fans as well. Same with Real, Barca etc
Great video, I love this series
uMaxit videos are underrated, very good stuff!
This is such a detailed video damn credits given
Do the Leicester owners next
Man City can thank this man. He bought the club and because of that sheikh Mansour bought the club later
Your videos are amazing bro keep it up
and yet some people still keep trolling City have no fans
Can you make a video about Antonio Valencia and why he is so important for Manchester United? He plays there for almost 9 years. Is 32 years old. During his time at United there are so many players that came and left but he stayed, why?
So the irony is that if United didn't tour Thailand, Thaskin would not have purchased city and eventually sell it. As a city fan I will like to thank United for making us the richest club in the world!
Lol yes. Kinda self destructed. Sheikh got us. They lost title due to Aguerooooo on goal difference. Then Ferguson retired. Went downhill quickly. Mourinho may bring them up though if he can survive next season. That's his third.
Richest owners but not club
would like to piont out that united are still the richest club in the world... city have the richest owners but don't make anywhere neer as much money as united.
You lot are in debt though
Big JellyEel im not a Utd fan but yes Utd are in debt but its not like they can't pay it off
I think that you should maybe do a video on how the ownership of PSG works. Seems a bit confusing to me.
Can you do a video similar to the Kroenke video about the hicks time with Liverpool please
Greetings from Thailand lol
Can you guys do a video on Martin O'Neil's managerial career and tactics?
why am i crying in the club right now
Can you do a video on Shakhtar Donetsk, the owner and their Brazilian connection.
Tanks just rolled up
Could you please explain midfield battles and numerical superiority and 3v2 and so on?
In a whiteboard tactics video
Do Marco Silva tactic please! :D
Want these on their shortlist:
Marco Silva
Jorge Sampaoli
Eddie Howe
Peter Bosz
Are you gonna do one about the guys who own LCFC?
Slight point - his surname is pronounced without the "-ra" bit (Don't ask me why. My surname is the same.)
As a Thai,I'm quite suprised hahahahah
Please make a video on the FIFA corruption scandal.
I can't believe I'm hearing the city of Chiang Mai mentioned and about Thai politics on this channel.
I'm from Thailand
And now he's back in Thailand,at the cost of being sentenced to 8 years in the slammer.
The last syallable in his name is silent.
Do one on usmanov
Chiang Mai though not Chang Mai.
Where is Sheikh Mansour ?
Do Vincent tan
The thumb nail says "exCiled". Shouldn't it be exiled without a "C".
I wonder how many of the current City supporters that I frequently come across on the internet have been a life long, or will be a lifelong City supporter.
Biggus Dickus I’m a lifelong supporter. But sadly I’m 14
I actually started supporting cause of Thaksin lol. Always kinda pitied him for being ousted by the military.
Thaksin was really a Manchester United fan
Suleiman Mustafa then he wouldn't have tried to buy Liverpool/City
Suleiman Mustafa he was a businessman
Funny...he's actually a Liverpool fan. And he doesn't like Man United.
Now city transfer & wage money is like removing a glass of water from the ocean I guess.
Conte's goons taking Diego Costa at 2:35
Poor guy, he can't even afford to own a football club :'(
And add salt to the wound the last game under his regime was ended in 8-1 defeat.
How he got 150 mil when people knew he needed to sell
Blood money.
i want my ashes to be laid at the bernabeu. gotta make sure they play the champions league anthem while they're doing it too
I thought sheikh Mansoor was the owner :/
lil 13 watch the whole thing
lil 13 stupid plastic fan
What a joke. Was Thaksin involved with Liverpool or Manchester city?
haha interesting
Cithai -> Citeh
well i guess sheikh Mansoor isn't asian then
He should have stayed and let city be relegated
Thanks for Sheikh mansour buying this club and save mancity
Pure evil
Manchester City the team that would probably be in the championship without oil
All he did is corruption, corruption and more corruption.
Let's talk about corruption a bit. Five years have passed since the junta came into power, do you think Thailand facing less evil? Are you government official or the beneficiary of corrupt system?
