    My Grandfather was in the Wehrmacht from 1938 until wounded in Russia in 1943.
    He was in Poland and France. But, he told me that right from the very beginning, they realised that this was very different against the Soviets!
    Right from the very beginning they fought harder and did not give up or surrender anywhere near as easily down to the last man or woman!

      That attitude is what makes me so nervous about Ukraine! We hear there are no peace talks because saving Ukrainian lives is less important than weakening Putin. We hear there were rumors Putin had cancer, and Zelenskyy demanding NATO membership was a good excuse for a proxy war, Putin will die or be toppled, and I guess we assume the next guy won't be WORSE? U.S. experts were so sure the Russians will quickly fold, and when has that ever happened? The world is boiling, and our species is playing world domination games!

  • @alonewolfhowling
    @alonewolfhowling Před rokem +11

    If you look at the timeline where he discusses marching order and distance as well as combat; most days had no casualties. Combat days usually show maybe 1 or 2 fatalities and several wounded. As the season advances frostbite adds casualties illness loss isn't otherwise addressed. Again looking at the days passing calendar wise the casualties don't seem terribly bad until you do the math. A German company in 1941 had a strength of 187 persons. As weeks passed casualties reduced that number so by the time this soldier returned from leave only 40 persons remained. Day by day the rigor of movement and combat whittled strength to less than platoon size. At the time of his death, it is possible that there were 30 or fewer infantrymen left with heavy combat and significant retreating and repositioning yet to come. During this period there were likely no replacements (the German army preferred to add replacements by withdrawing a unit and rebuilding) logistics were problematic. This condition appears common during the period mentioned. Little is said about the impact of losses during the first 6 months. In reality, the combat during this period basically destroyed the offensive power of the German military. From this time till Stalingrad the defensive capability was destroyed.

    • @RogerLewis-ey2tt

      Oh, wow. Tyvm for that insight.

    • @alonewolfhowling
      @alonewolfhowling Před 11 měsíci

      Just finished reading Stalingrad to Berlin (US Army Historian) (4th readthrough). This illuminates further what I've said. Even without combat, casualties and illness occur. All this will increase during movement and increase during combat. As the pace of combat rises and falls casualties increase as does illness. Prolonged combat increases the ratios of casualties and illness. Severely hot weather, wet conditions, and especially extreme cold maximize the above cases. Add in lack of water, food, and ammo and catastrophic failure becomes possible.

    • @siroyiryuu
      @siroyiryuu Před 4 měsíci

      @@alonewolfhowling I agree with your point that the main factor contributing to the failure of the Germans on the Eastern Front was their lack of emphasis on logistics. Similarly, we can also believe that the military failures of several empires attacking Afghanistan (Britain, Soviet Union, United States) were all due to logistical failures.

    Wow, killed early in the war. Barbarosa didn't happen until June 1941. I really enjoy first person accounts of warfare. It gives you a different perspective on historical facts. While it may differ from actual historical facts, it is interesting to see the Nazi soldier's point of view and his personal take on the invasion of Russia. I wonder why the Nazi army is so intent on the destruction of churches on its way to Moscow. It's hard to imagine the vast expanse of Russia to see nothing for miles and miles and you could see the enemy at a distance and prepare for the defense. It took sheer determination of the Nazi's to keep pushing on toward the ultimate goal of Moscow despite the orders of no retreat from Hitler. Cheers from eastern Tennessee

You don’t need to worry your head about them making stuff up dude the facts speak for themselves….26 to 32 million Russian men, women and children killed, 3.5 million Russian prisoners murdered in German p.o.w. camps, millions of Russia girls and women raped, female captured Russian soldiers hanged or shot on the orders of the Wehrmacht high command etc. etc. No sir, no need to make anything up because the master Aryan race did it all themselves. You’ve been listening to far, far too many Senator Joe McCarthy speeches dude, there really ain’t any reds under the bed and you ain’t better off being dead than red. There ain’t no red peril no more real or imagined. You don’t even know that Russia ain’t even communist any more do ya? You’re mistaking your prejudice for fact dude. 😂😂😂😂

      The repetitive nature of the narrative and lack of overt propaganda speaks of authenticity to me. Of course we never “believe” any written narrative; what historians do is analyse and compare narratives, looking for corroboration…..

    The narrator sounds great but hes reading slightly too fast in my opinion.
    Totally amazingly how any combat soldiers were able to survive even just one day of these mind crushing body destroying horrors and just imagine how some men actually fought within both world wars and survived both without even being wounded once and then like some of them grew old only to be mugged and killed by some lazy young sicko on the streets, who doesnt give a damn what they did when they were younger and some of those two world war survivors lived into old age and died, only to have their gravestones desecrated and broken by lazy young sickos who definitely deserve to be rounded up,
    living off sweat and blood of others,
    they are useless to humanity.
    Too hot, too cold, too dry, too wet, too muddy, too windy, too tired, too sick, too afraid, too brave, too early, too fast, too slow, too deep, too shallow, too late, the other unrelenting enemy we call weather really does suck.

      There were many towns populated with Jewish people. They were shot.
      But not by the regular soldiers. This was done by police battalions and SS.
      Later, though, many villages were burned down, including the population, usually as reprisal against sabotage actions. especially in the Belarus area.

    When men succumb to the nationalism and racism, men become worse than beasts. Behind all this there is the Satan the Devil who is the god of this system of world.
    Here is the solution of true God Jehovah.
    "God of heaven will set up a kingdom and this kingdom will destroy all human governments and will last forever alone"
    When and how?
    Armageddon is approaching fast in this generation and all the human nations will be gone forever from the earth.
    New era with perfect peace and unity will begin.
    And mo more death or pain anymore .
    God is making all things new.
