  • Today we continue our review of the diary of German Oberleutnant. Here German troops were surrounded and he had to fight hard defensive battles. These memoirs are very comprehensive and interesting, because this German officer describes in great detail the facts of what he experienced on the Eastern Front

More and more we lean that this war in Soviet Union was not a walk in the park.

Despite the general disaster of the Red Army, it still gave a decent fight to the Germans.

@@daleburrell6273 I think the Germans eventually lost about 180 divisions there. Not what I would call a walk in the park by a long stretch.

These diary entries are historic gold. Unfortunately far too many end abruptly with the comment “Kill on such and such a date”, diary found on soldiers body!
PS. Aug 14th? Probably a good thing he doesn’t know how terrible conditions are going to become! 11:05

I like the idea of following one army and then following the other side.

The quality of Russian troops of then described sound like the ones in Ukraine today . But the poor slobs today have no just cause to fight.

Many views on who was the enemy in WW2 .. Patton famously said after the war we fought on the wrong side. 🤔

It’s really tough to make this argument with the Nazis implementation of The Final Solution (killing Jews and various ethnic minorities). I don’t think Patton had any idea of this.
