My birthday is a "me day'.Sleep late.... Quiet...snuggling with dogs...watch dvds....send out for dinner(usually asian ...definately sushi). Relaxing!
I also stopped caring about my birthday when I turned like 33... the last time I did something special on my birthday I went out for Indian food with a good friend of mine... she yelled at me because I didn't tell her it was my birthday until we had already eaten, and I paid for us lol... keeping it secret and doing little things for yourself just feels way more satisfying at a certain point

Except he's very not lazy! He's such a hard worker, hustling from restaurant to restaurant, getting work done in between, and not to mention he said he works out 2-3 hours a day! It's so impressive and inspiring!

I have always been alone too, it has always been ok, my parents were always busy, then as I got older the time of year is busy for everyone. Anyway this ya was my 80th and I was sure there would be some recognition as 80 is a milestone? Anyway not only no, but everyone seemed to be out of town, so I really enjoyed celebrating birthday with you! Thank you so much and pecking duck is one of my favorites too. Hope you have many more.

The reason you'd rather be alone and celebrate alone is because when you're on your job you're around people so much and it feels like a celebration everyday. So on your birthday you'd rather do the opposite, which is be alone and celebrate by yourself because that feels more different and better than everyday.

Many people might not understand why one would pay hundreds of dollars to eat at a Michelin-starred restaurant, but the experience is incredible (I’ve never been disappointed, so far). As you said, they do something to your taste buds. The creativity of flavour combinations and juxtaposition of textures is mind-blowing.

I'm the same way. It took a while for family and friends to understand it, but eventually they just started leaving me alone on my birthday. Some people like parties and being social, I just want some time alone and to be able to do whatever I want, whenever I want. So, I get ya.

I’m with you, I hide out and avoid family, because every birthday I have had ends in drama that I have nothing to do with... mostly my folks fighting and siblings angry if I get a family meal when they all had huge parties. I say I’m booked for work. Course when you’re own mother forgets for three days it’s your birthday and no one else says anything you give up and make your own plans.

I never liked celebrating my birthday either...but then i realized that the person i should actually celebrate on this particular day is my mom... to give birth is something that takes great strength and usually one of the hardest experiences a mom could go through in their life...so even though i dont party i always take the time to acknowledge my mom on my birthday or bring her out to eat.. anyway...HAPPY NEW YEAR...until February for another new year!!

Hey Mike, many of us are stuck here in the midwest and the closest Asian community with a lot of variety like Flushing in Queens is Chicago. Chicago has a historical Chinatown, but it also has other Asian communities. I know, I know, Chicago vs New York City. It would be great though to see you visit this part of the country and do some exploring and let us know if you find some great places to eat. Thanks.
