    I’ve been skating 6.1s for about a month after skating some ace 55s since last July. As soon as I got them I took the top washer off and tightened them so that the nut was flush with the top of the bolt, and I haven’t had a single instance of them staying turned after I get off my board. Could be the looseness or the washer, or both. And I really like how they turn coming from aces, not as carvy and deep, but responsive and fun. And they’re very stable on hills, much more than indies or aces, and that’s super fun. I also haven’t had much of a problem with them grinding on concrete after like the first week, once they got just a little groove they grind just fine. They definitely feel like they’re a harder metal than most trucks, especially aces, but I don’t mind it at all. And I’ve found that if I keep my hardware tight I don’t experience the baseplate movement issue. Love your videos Ben, thanks for the consistently great reviews.

  • @grahammcallister3108
    @grahammcallister3108 Před 4 lety +5

    The trucks staying cockeyed is almost certainly the bushings. I've had multiple sets of trucks do that and replacing the bushings always fixed it. The trucks wiggling on the deck is probably caused by holes being slightly over sized on the truck. Getting brand new bolts could help this. Great review as always, good to see companies other than thunder and indy put out some solid trucks.

    After being on indys for quite a while, I gotta say I love these trucks! The pop and and the way they flip is what really got me and I would go on to say that if these grinded better, like they put more surface area where you grind then these would be a lot better than indys (imo) the turning was weird and a little delayed at first but I got used to it after a few hours and never noticed it again. And this will differ with certain people but I like tight trucks and with these having less turning radius I could ride these trucks a lot looser which I love for landing all my flatground tricks and not having to tic tac out or stiffen up if that makes any sense

    @MrWookieewonder Před 4 lety +6

    Got some 5.8 ventures, I've used some very thin foam shock pads (dooks I think, or something like that) from the 90's between the truck and deck forever. They literally glue the two to together without raising the truck. Stops any movement / twisting of the truck. Also stops bolts going loose.
    I much prefer the ventures on bigger boards for transition, so stable and more confident. Prefer Indys on smaller street set ups.

    I am riding 5.8 Venture High (Bobby Worrest model), but I took out the stuck bushings for Indy conical blue 92a bushings, with the nut as loose as I can have it without losing contact with the nylock insert. I'd describe it as a medium loose ride. I've had no problems with the hangar sticking after initial break in, my board actually rolls away straight as an arrow most of the time.
    I have always liked Ventures, I find I can cut pretty deep into a turn with them, just as good and Indy/Ace for me, although the feel is more controlled rather than surfy. Also these don't give me wheelbite issues like Thunder.

  • @Nowayjjose
    @Nowayjjose Před 2 lety +1

    For the shift of the trucks I recommend putting grip tape on the bottom of your baseplate, takes little to no time to do and it’s very effective, plus you just you use the fresh grip scraps from when you setup a board so it’s really nothing too extra

    • @anhiirr
      @anhiirr Před 9 měsíci

      i may have to consider double sided tape....im running dlx risers bc for some reason i get bite when i was running stage X 159s before the 6.1s. Which are basically the same height. And theres definitely shift-age. Worst part is i went with some shortys long allen bolts...and theyre already getting to the point where im going to have to focus the board to get the trucks off...my first/last experience with allen. I prob had too old/shitty/used up of a key too but thats what happens when you lose the free one that comes with the kit anyways. IMO id consider some quality philips/silverados bc the allens werent silverados. Either way to run the wood risers you have to be "serious" and have your tools at the ready or a quiver...bc once they get loose we know how easy it is to get bucked from airs/transfers when the trucks shift/turn on the fly. Theyre not wobbly yet but the risers do shift from time to time from being flush with the base at the nose/tail to slightly off by some mills. Its my/side setup since i mostly ride indys...but still. Plus i do like them in my time on the 6.1s with 8.38 pops and shaped boards theyre a hoot makes me wonder how the hollows would perform in exchange for the weight of risers+bigger wheels/shaped decks. Definitely changes how a shaped board feels vs indys esp for bs airs and half cabs or half cab nose slides etc. The pop/ease of pop initiation in transition was pretty eye opening vs using them back in the day for park/flat bar tech skating. Just easier to pop/grab/transfer than indys surprisingly...and insanely better smith/feeble/crook/fs nose pinch.

    I bought Mag lights, were super hyped, but i couldnt skate them because they felt like they made my board completley flat and didnt turn at all. Switched to yellow Bones bushings and just stood on them home and they felt way better but didnt have the chance to try em out cuz i had to go away for a long time at place you couldnt skate witch sucked. Now when winter is almost over i just changed the trucks to my Indies 144 on my 8 deck wich feels good for crusing and all but dont feel god at all with tricks flat. So now i have bought a pair of Venture 5.6s 8.25 axle, recommended size is from lowest 8.125. But im gonna ride them on my 8 Flip board cuz im no baby and then change to my Primitive 8.125 board. I really hope i dont get dissapointed. Havent skaten in some months so need to be paticient and start easy. Was long ago i rode Venture and always liked them. I just hope i dont go crazy and buy 148 Thunders right after. Thunder is what i rode in my golden years. Now i have 139 Indys, 144 Indys, 147 Thunders (The only 8 inch truck i can skate comfotable, or cant say about Venture 8s and im not going to try then neither), and Tensor Mag lights not grinded once, i think the size on them are 8.125. So Ventures are the only ones i dont have in my collection. If after skated these Ventures for a while and it just dont feel right im gonna buy 148 Thunders and after that thats it. Then i have all the trucks i want. So i guess i will be riding Thunders or Ventures from now on. And occasionally Indys just because i think the 144 look so damn good and they are the trucks that have felt best when it comes to just riding them.
    Its expensive to be a baby, and a skate nerd.

  • @billfields990
    @billfields990 Před 4 lety +2

    I think the "stuck" issue has more to do with the bushings on Ventures. I, too, ride big boards, typically 9"+ and like my wide trucks, like Indy 159, Ace 66, etc. Almost every truck I own, I always find myself swapping out for Bones Medium white bushings, with the yellow tops. Since the trucks are wider, there's a deeper carve potential, but also a higher chance of wheel bite. This also has me going to a smaller and smaller wheel. As mad as it sounds, I've really come to appreciate wide deck with tiny wheels, a la early 90s style. My current setup is a shaped 9.8 deck with ACE 66 and 42mm Boardy Cake wheels.

    If you like 8.5 decks, would you ever consider trying a shaped deck like the Powell-Peralta Flight Pro Andy Anderson Heron?? I've got one already, but would be curious what a skater like you would think of it having tried so many decks already. Have you tried many shaped decks before (I did see the Chocolate 8.25 review with the weird tapered shape)? Also, all my boards have Venture trucks now, I must say I really love them. Only downside is that some of them require some additional tools than just a skate tool to mount them, but usually that's a one time thing (per deck) anyway. The largest ones I've got are the 5.8. The tilt because of the slack in the board / bolts is definitely a thing. It's why I'd recommend using risers with these trucks. In fact, using risers and hard wheels is definitely a bit more comfortable anyway.

    I've never had Venture trucks, but am curious if different bushings would fix that issue. I gave up on Bones bushings for a few reasons; those being, the bottom bushing always blew out and the latest set I got was a bit thicker I think than they used to make them. The new added thickness made my trucks way too tight even at the loosest I could go without the nut not being secure(this may have partially resolved with break in, but int he past I've never had this issue and a friend said it took him a week for them to feel more loose. Not worth it to me). I switched over to Ace bushings(I think I have the lows) and have been liking those; they almost cost as much as bones unfortunately but haven't had the issues I've had with bones so far. I guess I could sand down the bushings if I still have them lying around. To see if I can get a good result. Long story short, this got really rambly and could have been summed up in the first sentence.

    i ride 8.38 159 indys.....had been riding the indys on a templeton reissue shaped deck......so i recently got a marius cadillac car 8.38x32.75......bc i wanted to ride a popsicle......i got the 6.1 kaders.....going to see how i like them. i hadnt ridden ventures since i was 17....11 years ago, when my cousin was the AM at active.......i got a complete for like 75$ with some ventures. I really like them for cabs/bigspin variations so im sure the back 360s and cabs i have on the indys will transition over to the ventures fine. The stock bushings are way to soft though......the regular 6.1s probably have better bushings....so im gonna get some bones bushings.....ive only skated the setup once so far. But im sure theyre going to turn a lot better and be more stable with some bones hardcores. I used to ride ventures a lot when i was younger....IMO they have the largest surface area of all hangers....unless you get indys like 40% down or more then indys have a pretty solid surface area......but ventures are really easy to do 50-50s 5.0s IMO are one of the easiest with ventures when theyre grindied down a lil......the hanger is basically flat.....i like that theyve changed the designs over the years too......bc the kingpin used to catch AF with the older ventures. They are a bit soft imo......aluminum wise so they dont grind as fast as indys on crete or sticky metal......and nothing grinds better than thunders metal to metal......imo......but the thunder hanger is like a razor edge compared to ventures or indys. Ive grinded from 1 wheel to the other side on crooked grinds with thunders cross hanger as ive locked in on the front wheel like a nose slide on the hanger......its crazy But i hate how they turn and are so herky jerky when you dont land perfect on the bolts........my biggest fear is how tic-tacy the ventures are gonna feel bc im used to that indy back foot turn where you can just mount your back foot over the bolts and lean ever slightly to get the easiest turn response......esp with indy conical bushings. and lift your front foot Ive gotten so used to doing this with indys.......i almost think im gona have to mount some risers.......after buyng 7/8th inch hardware......to let them kind of have some "give" for that "wobble mount bs".....bc these "gripes" are lifetime venture tendencies......which is why i always feel landing tricks just like thunders......and land with 1 foot leaning the opposite than the other......vs indys you can land with one foot toe heavy and the other foot heel heavy and be totally stable.....again im gonna run some bones bushings and im sure it will help.....bc i wheel bite AF.....which is why i actually ride wider trucks....I like longer boards bc the run/mini flat spot where you lock in nose slides "when its larger" for me i can really scoop impossibles/360shoves big spins......and 360 variations bc of that lil extra fractions of an inch of platform to build pop into......and i remember ventures of all the trucks ive ever skated also being able to really let you build up pop right along the back bolts for good pop on tricks......they always struck me as "tech skater" trucks for ledge skaters etc.......that do ledge lines and flip in flip outs.......for the eazy grind lock in hanger etc......think t puds p rod....a few others.....but im a skate nerd and love a fun quiver. Had to pull the trigger on the 6.1s.........i had some eyes out for indy 169s.....but im gonna fw some ventures for 2020 to start

    As other guys said, bushings and big mounting holes on base plates are the cause of slappies. I started skating with ventures in 90's and feel that ventures are better than indys because of stability by doing tricks. And now the ventures are no more my favorite without change bushings. Another thing is the preciseness. Comparing to the truck technologies in longboard area, the skateboard trucks are such a way back. Even Tensor TAGs are much better than ventures in fineness of manufacture. That's mein opinion.

I have been comfortable on 8.25 in recent years although I love size 8’s as well and have had success on 8.5s and honestly I’m looking at a measurement tape and a difference in 1 inch like nothing. If you got small feet then I understand but for me I can’t imagine going up an inch in board/truck size making much difference. I think it might fit me better. I am calculating my own science based on ratios because everything is relative right? Take the average shoe size US9 and board size 8.00 there will be a ratio of about 0.75 or average board size being 75% the size of the average shoe. Even if I go up to the biggest board size it’s still less that 0.75 ratio so relatively small. What are your thoughts on this?

Switched to yellow bones bushings and just stood on them home and they felt way better but didnt have the chance to try em out cuz i had to go away for a long time at place you couldnt skate witch sucked. Now when winter is almost over i just changed the trucks to my indies 144 on my 8 deck wich feels good for crusing and all but dont feel god at all with tricks flat. So now i have bought a pair of Venture 5.6s 8.25 axle, recommended size is from lowest 8.125. But im gonna ride them on my 8 flip board and then change to my primitive 8.125 board. I really hope i dont get dissapointed. Havent skaten in some months so need to be paticient and start easy. Was long ago i rode Venture and always liked them. I just hope i dont go crazy and buy 148 thunders right after. Thunder is what i rode in my golden years. Now i have 139 indys, 144 indys, 147 thunders, and mag lights not grinded once, i think the size on them are 8.125. So Ventires are the only ones i dont have in my collection. If after skated these Ventures for a while and it just dont feel right im gonna buy 148 Thunders and after that thats it. Then i have all the trucks i want. So i guess i will be riding Thunders or Ventures from now on. And occasionally indys just because i think the 144 look so damn good.
