One of my favorite chapter cliffhangers (I don’t remember which book) was the line “those were my last words” and on the next page was immediately followed up with “well I thought those were my last words”
I remember ten year old me audibly laughing at the goofiness of that one
I don't remember if it was Goosebumps or one of Stine's other books, but there was some incredible cliffhanger like this character in bed looking down and screaming, "My body!! What happened to my body?!" Next chapter: "Oh! It was under the blankets! =)" That is like seared into my mind forever. I love you, Mr. Stine, you're hilarious.
@@Emily-xk2du Don't remember the name, but did that one involve the kid sick and stuck at his grandmothers or something?
@@Emily-xk2du I recently went back to relive The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight, and one chapter ends with "And when she turned, Grandma Miriam's hand was now straw!" Next chapter: "Grandma Miriam was holding a broom." 🧹 Love these books so much. 😆
I may be wrong, but I think the cliffhangers helped children learn to surrender to the lure of fiction. A kid who is resolved to read only one chapter will be baited into turning the page.
It's an literacy-improving strategy for early reading proficiency.
I hope he gets to the story where it's a boot camp that makes perfect clones of the kids, sends those back, then traps the original ones as prisoners
I've never heard of that one but it sounds spooky !!
Ooh! Or what about that really weird one with the grandmother who was trying to forcefully age up her grandsons to sell them to her friends as new husbands?
I don't know if this was a book, but I know for a fact that it was an episode.
@@abbycantrell1369pushing up roses did a video about that one. It’s an episode based on a short story I think.
Was that the one with the weird jelly monster that the kids who won competitions at the camp had to take care of?
The perfect school one of my favorites
the wording in this video leads me to believe that you are going to go over every single goosebumps book and show adaptation in the series, and i truly couldn’t be happier about that.
What a good comment. The wording?? He literally tells us that... you are very dumb and your internet addiction is probably why
I really do love those original Goosebumps covers, thanks for taking the time to look at them/rate them!
I assume everyone else was obsessed with these like I was as a kid. Album covers and book covers, before smartphones lol
RL Stine’s books may have gotten me into reading as a kid, but Tim Jacobus’ cover art is the reason I even picked them up in the first place!
(Werewolf of Fever Swamp is my favorite cover)
I've really enjoyed seeing the US covers instead of the UK ones i grew up with. I'm not sure why they changed them when they released here.
It's such a specific aspect of my childhood that I never thought about until these videos.
I only read like one or two Goosebumps books, but I LOVED the covers. They're so well done and eyecatching.
I was hoping you would continue exploring this series! Very glad to see this appear in my feed, it’s fun to see you branch off in different directions for videos, especially when you talk about a subject that you clearly care very much about. Happy Halloween!
Hell yeah, I'm loving these videos!
I gotta admit, I actually love reading and re-reading Goosebumps as an adult. They're cheesy, most of them aren't remotely scary, but they're infinitely charming and take me back to a simpler time in my life. They give me the warm fuzzies, feels good.
I recently started rereading some of my old Fear Street books, and definitely get a similar cozy feeling.
What a stupid comment
The 'Say cheese and die' book always freaked me out. In the Dutch publications the cover had a girl taking a picture of a boy on the stairs and in the corner there was a polaroid of the boy lying on the floor with a bleeding head.
Monster Blood pictured the aunt with a knife with light coming from inside, making quite an unsettling image and Don't go into the basement pictured a boy being strangled by vines. There was another one with a girl working at a library and her boss would eat the animals kept there. The cover pictures the main characters spying on the boss in the foreground biting on the turtle.
I just looked them up and the Dutch covers look so awesome!
I was sometimes more afraid of the covers than the books lol.. the one with the dummy had to be locked up in the closet cause I was convinced it would come alive and terrorize me 😂
@@MissLilyPlays Absolutely! Someone did an awfully good job at these. It's kinda like the Scary Stories books. Horrifying.
That last one is called The Girl Who Cried Monster and it’s one of my favorite Goosebumps books
@@SCPguy Oh that's funny. Over here it's translated to mean "Enjoy your meal" or "Bon appetit".
John: “She keeps making these weird cat movements and it’s just silly.”
If you spent 30 years as a cat, you have weird cat movements too, lol.
Okay, theory for Sarah Beth: she's in love with aunt Catherine but can't admit it, so forces her to live a normal life with her as "punishment" :D
Say Cheese and Die was so good! For those who want a more adult version of this story, read Joe Hill’s story “Snapshot”
Sarabeth - a name so nice, he used it twice (actually he used it more than twice across all his series which always stands out to me because I've never heard of anyone being named Sara Beth unless they're in the Stineverse).
Two years ago there was a woman named Sarah Beth on Big Brother.
What a stupid comment
What a stupid comment
@@baixiaolangwho cares? Your internet addiction is a joke
Gotta say John, this is my favorite series you’ve done on your channel. You also look alot happier doing these too, and that’s what it’s all about! Looking forward to the next one in the series
You're so right! I did begin to notice, even a few years back, that he was becoming kinda more cynical. As much as I love his gaming vids, I hope he can transition into a role he feels happier with, whether or not it still involves gaming 😊
John revisiting a series that I loved as a kid. This does put a smile on my face
One of my favorite new series to watch on CZcams. Already addicted to these reviews. Absolutely love these nostalgic throwbacks with John.
john's knowledge of every actor in a scene is rlly impressive lol ryan gosling appearing in goosebumps as a kid is surprising
I was laughing out loud at the Ford Taurus commercial edit. Great job! I know you've been looking for non-gaming content and this series really feels like a winner.
JOHN I OWE YOU MY LIFE. I was just rewatching the first video since I love your clear (but onbrand snarky) affection you have for the series. It shines with your observations and commentary and I really do hope this is a series. Praying that you, one day, will do one about Give Yourself Goosebumps because I lived for that stuff. Toy Terror: Batteries Included and Tick Tock, You're Dead! were the shit.
Here to support John's increasingly unhinged reviews of Goosebumps
I am LOVING these Goosebumps videos sm, John getting to showcase a childhood classic, he's super funny in them, and I love how he rounds it out with extra info tidbits - like for the Say Cheese and Die books, how the publisher made RL Stine write in a scene based on the cover and the inspiration from the Twilight Zone episode. It's very entertaining, thank you, John
This is my favorite series on YT right now!!! I've never heard of you before John, but I am a fat sucker for nostalgic Goosebumps covers and content... Gimmie all them reviews!!!
Easter egg goes further than you think. 9:00 Richard Beymer is also Benjamin Horne from TWIN Peaks. "The Beymer Twins" are named after him in Goosebumps. Which is also interesting because you're playing ALAN WAKE II and its basically Twin Peaks the game.
I love this series and hope it continues. Goosebumps was easily my favorite book series as a kid. It's fun looking back at this as an adult.
Just found your content with your first goosebumps video and was worried you would never revisit it. I’m so excited to watch this!
On a separate note, I always actually loved the monster blood series when I was younger, stoked to see what you think.
this is definitely one of my favorite series you've ever done, these are just so fun to watch! i've even rewatched the first one a few times, I hope you do more goosebumps videos!!
these videos have such ridiculously fun energy, its great to see you having fun!!
Just when I thought Halloween was over, John gifts us all one last treat
I hope he does werewolf skin and werewolf of fever swamp together
So happy you decided to keep doing these. Your reviews is something I didn’t know I needed
this series has brought me to your channel. i really appreciate hearing about these stories from my childhood! i was obsessed with goosebumps as a kid and i look forward to hearing about these books again without having to rely on my nostalgic memories. i definitely remember them as more dramatic and scary though i do remember some books that felt very goofy and made me laugh- which was also a good thing!
I love this atmosphere setting and your charisma! Every second was grabbing my attention. Felt like I was watching an interesting documentary on Goosebumps history. Loved it! I was hooked the whole time.
Small things amused us back in the day, when we finally got a car with automatic locks and windows, it was like living in luxury. I often wonder how people that had AC in their car for the first time felt.
I don’t remember these episodes but was just thinking it’s wild how impactful the cover art is after all this time both of those pieces of art (along with a lot of other of those original book covers) are forever in my brain. Idk just cool to think about! Another great video and I’m looking forward to the next one! Thanks for these
This is awesome! Never grew up with these books but you make me feel so nostalgic just listening. Great content!
I wasn’t a Goosebumps kid, but as a Goosebumps adult, I appreciate this series very much!
Say cheese and die was my first goosebumps and I loved it for that reason. It was probably one of the first “novels” that I ever read.
I know you're busy, man. I'm just a fan passing by and missing your uploads. I hope all is well.
Keep making these, love the content. Would love to see you do the whole series.
For me, Even Ross was the big wet blanket dragging the Monster Blood books down. If they ditched Evan after the first book and just focused on Andy, they probably would have been fine.
Happy Halloween, John! I'm glad to see you're happy and healthy. Thanks for continuing the Goosebumps series. It brings back a lot of memories for an old, single father like me. You're the man.
Glad I found this channel. Reading Goosebumps was a big part of my childhood and probably the main reason I started reading for the enjoyment of it.
LOVE your work on this series, you have so much passion for it and it's great to hear other people's takes on these books. this is coming out as i reread some goosebumps for a book club, and i couldn't be happier! i'm a monster blood stan, always have been, its just my fave out of all the goosebumps books tbh, but i really appreciate the way you looked at the episode version. it's so unserious, in a bad way lolll.. seeing your take on it gave me a new lens and appreciation for the story again
Man do you ever just feel like an adult character in a Goosebumps story :/
John, wanted to use a moment to give major kudos for engaging on this new venture and really putting yourself out there. I admit I was one of the skeptics about the change of content, but upon watching your goosebumps reviews of the books and it's subsequent show, this has been absolutely life giving on my more mentally low days.
I also grew up reading these books, and by the time the show came out I'd moved on from the franchise, but diving back into this and hearing about your opinions on the prose of Stein's work and the show's own interpretation of it has been INCREDIBLY fascinating.
It's truly like being in a book club!
I am on tender hooks about where this series will continue, and what you have next in store. I am personally enjoying watching your other channel for the gaming contenting and coming back here to invest more about your interests. It's a refreshing take on things as a viewer, and I really really pray you have more in store for this!!
Keep up the great works, bro. You're killing it ❤️
Please keep doing more of these. I loved Goosebumps when I was younger, and rewatching it years later has been a trip.
Yesss, really enjoying your break down of these! Keep that goosebumps trainrolling!
I was Obsessed with Goosebumps when I was a kid and I am thrilled you are doing this series! Can't wait for the next one :D
Same. I had the entire collection until around mid to late 1996
New to the channel and was a big fan of Goosebumps growing up. The funny thing about that Ford Taurus segment is that (while probably not intended) the Ford Taurus SHO (Super High Output) WAS a pretty big deal. The 1989 was the most powerful front-wheel drive production car. It had a 3L V6 and over 200 hp until 1996 when they started putting a V8 that Yamaha helped Ford build. I'm sure you've heard of the Police Interceptor... that's the motor that was used.
In the last models, they had gone back to a V6 motor, but it was a twin turbo making over 360 horsepower.
Sorry to nerd out, I just found it interesting. Love the content!
I’m so happy you continued this. It’s so good seeing you doing the content you want to do and all the varied videos !!! Just wanted to comment to support 🥳
i love these videos sooooo much! i kept checking back to see if you posted another one. thank. you for these!
I've been waiting excitedly for this! You inspired me to reread my collection so they're fresh in my mind when you critique them.
I really hope he does the full series! I know it's a lot, but it would be so fun!
Wow, I'm so used to you uploading in the afternoon hours that this took me totally by surprise ...but boy-oh-boy am I happy to see it!
I'm just finishing closing down and cleaning up after the trick-or-treaters, looking gleefully at the stash of leftover candy that will soon be mine (touch my Heath bars and you'll lose a hand!) ...candy I can munch on while watching a John Wolfe retrospective.
What an awesome Halloween! Thank You John 🥰😘
Im craving the next video! It's been a month John I need moreeeeee
Love what you're doing with your content! Goosebumps was one of my fav series as a kid! lol
I was waiting and waiting for you to mention the giant nail in the foot as the ending cliffhanger and that never happened. So there was a brief instance where I was afraid I made that ending up myself as a kid, but thankfully it’s in the sequel !!
I don’t know what it is about random greetings in the middle of a video but when John said hi I said hi back automatically. Super fun series, and like that you balance criticism with humor that shows a love for the material.
Just finished your first video, about to start this one! I hope this becomes a series that eventually gets to Werewolf of Fever Swamp (my personal favorite even if it’s not the best executed story, just love the concept/atmosphere and Tim Jacobus’ cover art)
This series is so much fun! It's very nostalgic and your commentary is spot on as always. I know it will take a long time, but I hope you can do all the books.
‘It Came from Beneath the Sink’ was one of my earliest memories of buying a book from the Scholastic book fair in the 90s. I read that book so many times. Looking forward to seeing that one covered if this series continues! Loving the episodes so far 😁
Please keep this series going. Wants you do a lot people will start watching the whole series and the views will climb over time
Yay, more Goosebumps. I never experienced these as a kid so this is fun. :)
Also, can't wait for Alan Wake 2 Part 3 :D
I hope you can play more of chillas art or fears to fathom!
I love how much detail you give each book. From the covers to alternative covers if they have it, comparing the show and book. This is such a great series!!!
I’m genuinely stoked to see another episode to this series! These are great to listen to during my work break!
I've had such an unexpectedly good time with this series so far. Great job good sir, please review more Goosebumps books!
Can you imagine if the great RL Stine, one of the best selling authors of all time bar none, just dropped out of the sky and commented on one of these videos?
Could you imagine if this comment was written by none other than RL Stine himself?
Monster Blood is what got me to read growing up, that cover art alone intrigued me wondering what it all meant.
I still greatly enjoy the unknown factor it has along with the various sequels it got.
I remember really liking the Monster Blood book, particularly Aunt Catherine and Andy. The second one was my favorite, with the class hamster growing into a ferocious monster! Come to think of it, the second Night of the Living Dummy was my favorite as well.
Also, loving the new TV series! Imo it was cool of them to open the show with Say Cheese and Die. Can't wait for tomorrow's episode. ❤
Slappy still haunts my nightmares.
Thank you for this nostalgic trip! I love what you do GUYS
Loving the new content John! I love your let's plays as well but it seems like you're having alot of fun with your new direction ❤️
this was a really amazing video I have been loving this series for such a long time and these books always meant a lot to me keep up the great work with your videos
But what about Rusty Lake, did you just forget about that?
I’ve literally never been this early since I’m a new subscriber, I’m happy to get a part 2 of this series. Thank you , much love .
Also the ghost content stuff is always great
Love this series so much i hope you continue to do and enjoy doing them! And anything similar!
great video, I really enjoy this series! I like how you review both the tv show and the book, and then give them a comparison, it's a nice extra layer to see what things they changed when adapting the books. I hope you can review more goosebumps books in the future (:
John needs to keep these kinds of videos going. I personally think he's found his new niche and i'm totally down for it!
More of John Wolfe nitpicking my nostalgia? Yesss. I love it. Happy Halloween!
Great episode and I really like your sense of humour John. I look forward to the next ones in your series.
Such a great video! I hope there's more of these to come!
I am so excited for The Haunted House Game!! I remember that being my literal FAVORITE episode! Can’t wait to hear what your thoughts on book and episode!
I hope you keep going even if Halloween has passed. Please? 😂
Ever think of doing Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark? Maybe next year?
I hope we get the full series. These are awesome. Your commentary is top notch, and going down memory lane is great.
Wonderful video series:) I’ve been really enjoying watching these!
The episode Cry of the Cat from season 4 is one of the creepier episodes of Goosebumps in my opinion, the practical effects used were pretty good also!! Also a two parter
My cousin watched the DVD at my house as kids and is still scarred to this day lol
Practical effects for the cat person, yes. For Rip the cat, absolutely not. That thing looked like a mutant rat
Will you do 'Scary Stories to read in the Dark' series too?
Your videos came in my feed a couple weeks ago and I can't get enough of it man you're doing good shit don't stop
I am loving this series! And I really hope you continue. Such a fun watch
So many horror games came out I'd love to hear your salty opinions on lol. Bring back random horror games at least please.
Same, it’s been a while since he’s done any horror games
Facts
Sweet!!! More of these!
Hopefully you will also be able to read some of the books RL Stine wrote with a young 6 year old John Wolfe.
Childhood Cringe will Rise Again!!!!
Love these videos too and the new content in general. Except the AITA Reddit ones. Those just depress me, but its more the subject matter than you.
**Also it sounded like you were serious when you said Eric Freeman won an Oscar lol.
** There was also a skit on Chappelle Show about a camera that was similar to the Twilight Zone Episode.
you covering the Goosebumps series was a direction I didn't expect you to take for your channel but it's a very much welcome one, can't wait for possibly more!
I'm really enjoying this series! It's obvious that you're having fun making them, and that energy really comes through the whole video!
What happened to this channel? Lol
I nearly choked on my water when I saw Sara Beth the "witch" practicing dark magics in 80's leather pants and 6in combat boots lmao 🤣🤦🏽♀️
I am SO happy you made another part and I'll happily watch you discuss every single goosebump book/episode. It's so fun and entertaining ❤❤❤🙌🙌🙌
Please do more of these videos. I grew up on Goosebumps and I’m loving reminiscing while you talk about them 🤩
Please continue this series!!! Absolutely love this
I've really loved your different content! It's fun going back to these books I read as a kid. 😂
These cutaways are gold
Just wanted to say that it was really awesome seeing your little cameo in Five Nights at Freddy’s. Seeing your face on the big screen was amazing!
I never read the goosebumps books when I was a kid. My parents were always anti-horror (yet here I am having played multiple horror games and having watch many horror movies, horror is my favorite genre)
The ADR Resident Evil 7 but was funny :)
