What's Goosebumps like as an adult? In this episode, we'll check out #5-7 of the original series, which includes a couple stories that never got a TV adaptation! And the one that did...? Well, I kinda wish it hadn't. Adult beware, you're in for a scare! - Komedie

What’s interesting is that R.L. Stine did make a SlappyWorld book called The Dummy meets The Mummy, I think it’s cool how you talked about both monsters from the different stories and it reminded me of that book 😊
John there's another Jeff the killer game call reunion
JOHN!!!! please cover as many goosebumps books as you can stand!
Love the here’s Johnny reference! Though I don’t know if the age of air was much of a subject in the shining. Still, nice touch.
Please do a video on the part 23 minutes into Michelo 2.0's video "huevos en al ouija" when even when he is far away from the table standing the egg still moves and at 9:52 his rosary moves on his neck.
Idk if someone has already mentioned it, but the fact that lefty was the only left handed person in the family, and "righty" wasn't dragged back into the mirror when it shattered- would it be possible that Max's brother had found the mirror before and had already swapped places and Lefty was the original mirror doppleganger?
I like that theory!
In the book, they had just recently moved into the house - but since it belonged to Max and Lefty's grandparents, he could have found the mirror when they came on a family visit years ago!
Oooh I agree this is a really smart theory! 👏
My only issue with that theory is it would mean Lefty knowingly did the thing that would send him back where he came from. I guess it would work with the drug metaphor idea John had, in that he knows this is the dumbest thing he could possibly do, but he does it anyway.
Well he wants their attention so the reflection probably wants to feel included so does it and gets hooked on it leading to being switched back. (unless i forgot something which is possible)
That makes alot more since, when u consider lefty had no reason to smash the mirror, unless he was the actual brother, because it easily could of sucked him in, stopped the entire dople gang army, I would assume the plan would be take over the full family then slowly take over the neighborhood and then spread, so shattering the mirror makes no since, in the TV show they actually fix that glaring issue by having the none changed girl smash it but idk I love that comment though
The amount of respect I have for John Wolfe is immeasurable.
You too?
Same!
And my day is ruined
Me too
Amen to that.
Bro actually like just do the whole series pretty please, you kill this format.
In 3rd grade, my class wrote letters to our favorite authors. Most wrote to J.K. and we all got the same prewritten responses back, but one kid wrote to R.L. Stein and got a really nice reply. I always remembered that.
I love that. Thanks for sharing!!
Jk Rowling is a POS with her anti-gay, anti-trans bullshit. She outright said the Harry Potter books are NOT for trans kids. She's effing horrible!
My brother had a hard cover of Night of the Living Dummy that lit up and laughed when you pressed a button. That book scared the shit out of me when I was little.
what the hell. I need that now. googling furiously
It's awesome! Was that the monster edition 2?
My uncle also had this one! I was devastated when my grandma sold all his books, this one included. 😅
This bought back memories. I remember pleading with my mom for the money to buy that book at the book fair and she said no. But surprise, surprise, it’s because she had bought me the whole series bundle and that book (which is night of the living dummy 1, 2, 3 together, making it a hefty book) from those scholastic magazines. I still have that book and the whole bundle which is like 30 or much more books in my attic. Maybe I should pull them out to see if that book still lights up🤭
I had it too, my dad's friend got it for me for one of my birthdays.
“Vampires suck your blood, zombies eat your brain, what do mummies do when they get you? They just start beating the shit out you?”
I don’t remember the tweet verbatim, but ever since I read that, mummies have become so much funnier and a better monster to me
In my personal headcanon they mummify you alive (brain scooping and all) then lock you away until YOU are disturbed like it was.
Either that, or the skin scarabs from The Mummy lmfao
@@cedaagentGod, those skin scarabs used to give me nightmares!
That’s pretty much what happens when a mummy catches you in the Goosebumps PC game.
They pester you about returning The Slab!
They're basically zombies so probably eat you.
I was not expecting John to Jack Torrence his way out of a book to give us an air fact but i am happy it happened
I came to this video on my phone just to reply and like your comment ❤🎉
Pretty sure that was a nod to Hbomberguy.
@@EarthboundXdefinitely
Even says the "only one problem Ben"
@@EarthboundX I mean, it was kind of a Jack Torrence thing before Hbomberguy did it. Though Hbomb's version was funnier than Jack's.
the door chop to correct a children's book character about how old air is SENT me
I literally started crying laughing so hard
An amazing possible hbomberguy reference??
@@dpben10pwn "Sell your house to whom, Ben ? Fucking Aquaman ?"
@@dpben10pwn It is
The correlation of drugs to the kids chasing the feeling of going invisible in the book is spot on.
As someone who didn't grow up reading Goosebumps and wasn't aware of its cultural influences till adulthood, I really thought this series wasn't for me. But John's like a fun, sarcastic, slightly grumpy uncle telling bedtime scary stories. It's great to experience Goosebumps this way.
ngl.... i guess im that slightly grumpy uncle now. when i was camping with family i may of pulled "are you afraid of the dark" and "goosebumps" storys around the campire. ofcourse modyfying it and making it like it was me in the story or my cousin in the story lol
but my dad did the same thing when i was younger. we used to do family night hikes and he had his own little twist on the Hookman urban legend mixed with his own humor "me and my highschool sweetheart were at makeout point watching the submarine races" type of thing. kids dont understand it. but the adults do lol
Same, I knew about Goosebumps as a kid but never really had any desire to read them but I'm loving this series
I had a lot more fun with the TV show than i probably should've growing up as a kid, even though i was born in 2000 so i was kind of born in Goosebumps' dark age, the VHS tapes and DVDs were what got me addicted to Goosebumps, and though i never actually read a single one of the books because i was never a big book reader outside of studying for homework, but i owe a lot to Goosebumps for shaping me into the horror fan i am now.
"cause the series is going to last that long" I swear I'd fund it myself if I could, this has been a great ride so far. I never got to read or watch these as a kid and this has been incredibly funny and enlightening
John's dad jokes are getting worse and worse. I love it lol
I won't apologize for them. I'm not Sari!
He's leveling up😂
I died when my slowbrain kicked in on this. Thank you for the dad joke laugh lol@@JohnWolfe
My fiance asked today if he should buy me a panini called "Bombay" for the indian spice. I asked if it's because I'm a bomb bae. He hated it.
Samee I love it 😂 He and Kimmy remind me of my bf and I haha cause we both compete to come up with the worst dad jokes and take turns pretending we hate them 😂
the hbomberguy level of commitment john displayed just to correct a fictional character about the age of air is truly awe-inspiring
I think it's pretty interesting how grounded Curse of the Mummy's Tomb was despite its unusual setting; until Act 3, there was nothing overtly supernatural going on. The villain was just a regular human who happened to be a crazy serial killer, which I think makes him one of the scariest Goosebumps villains by default; he was literally going to murder these kids.
Also, I kinda love how Slappy gets introduced very ominously, but then isn't the focus of the story; instead, the villain is another living dummy who the dad just happens to find in a pawn shop. It's really funny, actually, how much he got shafted until the Twist ending.
I think Mr. Stine had the idea for a living Dummy named Slappy but wasn't sure how the story would resonate with kids, so he made Mr. Wood as like a test run so if the book was successful, he didn't need to explain how Slappy survived a literal steamroller.
That's a good theory at the end! Although I wonder if Mr. Stine was really thinking of sequels even back at book number seven??😆
@@JohnWolfeI doubt it since jacobus didn't even know the books he was drawing for at the time.
Much like the Stephen King drinking game, you could also do the same of R.L. Stine's stories.
Take a drink every time;
+ A character tries to scream but can't make a sound
+ Shouts "noooooo"
+ The evil wants to make the main character their slave
+ The evil wants to trap the characters "forever"
+ Implied the main character dies at the end
+ Main character/close friend/relative is chubby
There's probably more that I don't remember (feel free to add them), but you're guaranteed to drink to at least 3 of these per story.
Drink if you spot a real world inaccuracy. (Gulls with talons, Stine? Really
Down your bottle if the main character or their friend is described as non-white. (Reviewer Pop Arena literally said in one of his reviews "Looks like someone reminded Stine that black people exist for this book.")
Every time:
-There's a fake-out scare at the end of a chapter that turns out to be nothing
-There's siblings that don't get along
-Someone/something is described as "a riot"
Also "One character pranks another one."
Let's Get Invisible sort of reminds me of the movie Talk to Me, in that it's a very believable depiction of how kids would act if they found something supernatural.
Oh I love this comparison
I was thinking the same thing! Parallels for sure.
Made me think of the movie Flatliners
I was a little worried you wouldnt revisit this series but im so glad you did. Its nice listening to someone with a similar passion to the books, cover them.
Okay the “Sell the houses to who? Aquaman?” Reference was maybe the funniest reference I have ever seen
the dumpster fun fact????? i'm getting whiplash from being entertained and learning
When I was a kid I always thought the green mist that left Mr. Wood after getting steamrolled was the spirit of the evil entity, which then went on to possess the dummy of Slappy… which is why his eyes are green. I’m not sure what to believe anymore lol
I loved Let's Get Invisible as a kid. It perfectly captured that childhood feeling of wanting to explore the world around you, being too young to always realize when it's time to stop, never entirely sure what will and will not turn out to be dangerous.
John pointing out Gabe's actor being the voice of Carlos in the Magic School Bus is cool and all, but arguably even more impressively, HE PLAYED TUCKER IN ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK ? !! AKA the BEST children's horror show from the '90s (I say this as someone who has been a huge Goosebumps fan since I was 5 or 6, so no disrespect to the Goosebumps TV show at all)
He failed to point out Sari's actress, Annick Obonsawin and not give her a tiny bit of acknowledgement at all. She also played Slappy in Night of The Living Dummy III.
As I remember, Goosebumps and Are you afraid of the dark? Were filmed quite close to each other, and so the pool of actors usually overlapped. That's why Hayden Christensen, Ryan Gosling, Tucker, and many other actors appear in both shows.
If it DOESN'T last that long I will be very sad and very empty. I need these videos to function
if john never uploads again it's because he got killed by an animated dummy after speaking the words of power
At least Uncle Ben didn't get shot. :)
9:35 The SPLIT SECOND John's smile drops post 'pyramidnapped' joke absolutely kills me so many parts of this vid were great but for some reason that made me lose it
The green screen with the hatchet was brilliant lmao. John was threatening him with facts lmao. That will teach Mr. R. L. Stine to not do some fact research! lmao.
And it also doubles as an hbomberguy shoutout, so even better.
think the idea is they meant the air has been undisturbed for 4000 years. idk if the air would of slowly cycled out over the years. oxygen doesnt go stale but it does get converted and formed, so there is as such thing as "new" oxygen molecules
i am BEGGING for john to drop the green screen of him tearing through paper with an axe
this is me totally clutching at straws, but maybe the parents in lets get invisible were childhood best friends and whichever one didn't live in the house just came over all the time
I was just commenting the same😹 I spent a ton of time at my now FIL place growing up in HS till he sold it just a few years back. I also know some people who moved into their partners parents houses in HS due to serious home life problems. That seems more reasonable than an unexplored flowers in the attic type parents😹
You're clearly adapting to being a new dad really well with those top tier dad puns.
Since lefty didn't get sucked back into the mirror, I can only surmise that he, in fact, is the real lefty who was switched with his mirror self years before the story, and switched back.
Had to pause the video immediately just to come down here and say I absolutely loved the HBomb axe reference, perfectly done from the length to the wording.
I can’t explain why, but I’m so proud of John for doubling down on sporks. 😊😂❤
I didn't read "Let's Get Invisible", but is it feasible that Lefty was a mirror-double the whole time? The real, good Lefty was in the mirror the whole time, and only released at the end?
I'm new to Goosebumps like many others here. Glad to say i also thought of the "Slappy planted the spell to orchestrate everything" theory, since that would explain why it was in Mr. Wood's pocket when it should've obviously been in Slappy's, which narratively makes more sense since Slappy was the mysterious Dumpster find while Wood was just purchased.
The “here’s Johnny” bit was perfect 😂😂😂
I would like to assume the parents in "Let's Get Invisible" are childhood sweethearts and essentially grew up together in the town.
The amount of joy I experienced when I opened CZcams and saw this video cannot be understated. I absolutely love this series.
they probably did the earring subplot in "let's get invisible" so they could just have the actor switch ears for takes instead of having to do two different haircuts mirrored or having to mirror anything in post
been subbed for like 10 years but this is truly peak john era
The dummies were always the creepiest Goosebumps villains to me, while I was growing up. Dolls can still unsettle me, sometimes. I remember a person I used to hang out with who had a fully fledged Slappy dummy; had a weird mix of envy and terror, especially when they'd crash at my place with the dummy.
I think I'll just stick with the small number of Living Dead Dolls I was gifted, years ago. 😅
The amount of respect I have for John Wolfe is immeasurable.
But also Night of the Living Crummy was right there.
Him staring at himself in the mirror is one of the best things I've ever seen. We need more linger moments like this. 😮😂
I love this series so much.
PS the axe bit about the 4000-year-old air killed me
6:40 love that Hbomberguy reference!
I learned about Dumpsters from the Simpsons: "Otto, you live in a Dumpster?" "Aw man, I wish! That's name-brand stuff!"
Also, please review all 62 books. There's no deadline in any way, so I'm sure you can do it in a way that avoids burnout.
As the video began I got this wholesome flash forward image of John reading these books to his kid.
I legit laughed out loud at "your jokes are a little cryptic," amazing. I also legit thought Guys returned.
I remember reading Let's Get Invisible in primary school and the twist at the end made my jaw drop and I still remember how schocked I was all these years later
The Hbomberguy reference? Stellar.
The amount of respect I have for John Wolfe is immeasurable.
Please let this series continue. I was an avid fan of the goosebumps show, and my siblings all loved the books. Seeing you review them has been really good.
every time john pauses for laugh track and crickets or silence follows, that gets a laugh from me if the dad jokes don't do it XD
I didn't notice the spork in the previous Factor segments, but I did appreciate John method with said spork in this one. He's got that toddler grip down pat.
I remember Let's Get Invisible was my favorite Goosebumps book when I was a kid and the scariest. I'm glad it scored so high in this video.
What I'm learning from this is I'm really glad that my only experience with these stories as a kid was reading them directly myself because that TV show would've ruined any perception of these stories I had lol.
4:28 The child actress that played Sari Hassad in Return of The Mummy is Annick Obonsawin. She also did the role of Slappy in Night of The Living Dummy III.
The Return of the Mummy is actually my favorite episode from the original Goosebumps. And I was pretty surprised when I realized that because I didn't particularily like mummies as monsters and yet this one charmed me for some reason. Only now I learn it is a sequel.
I enjoy this series so much, not only because I get to learn about the content of those books (never had the opportunity to read Goosebumbs myself), but also because of your jokes! The amount of respect I have for you, your dedication, your humor and your content as a whole is immeasurable!
My favorite bit was you cracking open the pages and pulling your head through 😭 me and my husband were cracking up
As someone who was introduced into most of the horror genre via goosebumps, it’s so awesome to see these uploads from you. I LOVE the direction of this channel and it really does look like you’re having fun. I can see how much of yourself you really pour into this. I hope you continue to feel the same as time/uploads progress.
John doing his best Jack Torrence impression out of nowhere had me rolling 🤣
I was JUST thinking about how its been a while since a Goosepbumps update! Love this.
Never stop doing these! The mix of humour & genuine appreciation for the series is so great & refreshing
I literally love this series and I DESPERATELY hope it lasts until book 23 and beyond ❤
Your spork usage for all meals makes you an honorary Australian in my eyes!
Glad John has embraced the dad jokes
The curse of the mummy’s tomb was always my favourite!
Ngl your Goosebumps videos inspired me to go through the series via audiobook, and its been really nostalgic and fun so far. I do hope you'll be able to get through the entire series (even with how long it is)
John having a ragefit so powerful he destroyed the book page with an axe made my evening
The idea of being mummified alive is really gruesome. Don't they use a hook to pull the brain out through the body's nose?
Yes! There's actually a scene in the book where Gabe tries to gross out Sari by discussing the process in detail. Part of their oh-so-charming "banter"
That's actually one of the bad endings in one of the Choose your own Goosebumps books
"Gotta get back to the pyramid." It'll still be there if you file a police report, man. It's been there a while.
Get bent@@real_johnwolfe
I appreciate the work you've put into these videos John - they've become some of my favourite that you've done. I honestly would watch if you did ALL the Goosebumps books 😆
I am so glad you're continuing this series

This series better continue. Such fun content
If you’re really looking for a plot twist, may I suggest author Tim Dale’s ‘My Room is A Zoo of Ghosts’ I personally still haven’t recovered from that shocking reveal with the plane.
The series needs to last at least as long as it takes us to get to "The Beast from the East," which is my favorite book for no particular reason. I just really like that one. And if we don't get there, my immeasurable respect for John Wolfe will become measurable!
I've been "dying" for this
This is such a fun series-I was very lightly “into Goosebumps” as a kid and only remember a few stories, but going through it now through these videos is a blast. I love the rating systems and the way John takes it somewhat seriously but of course always with that classic eye-rolling John Wolfe sense of humor. Excited for more!
I just wanted to add to the sea of positive voices and say that I ADORE these videos. Your scripts are very funny and it’s noticeable how much you enjoy making them too :) thanks John!
John axing through the book has to be one of the best thing johns ever done for a video.
I love this series of revisiting Goosebumps. I don't remember reading the books or watching the show as a kid but those book covers alone are unforgettable... always popping up at the Scholastic Book Fair (and catalogs) so visually they've had such a lasting effect on me in that way.
Each time you've come out with one of these it's the perfect type of video to curl up in bed before falling asleep to watch with my cat. Thank you.
Night of the living dummy was always my favorite story since it explains Slappy’s origin story perfectly 😊. I honestly can’t wait to see more of this cause thanks to Goosebumps, it’s the reason I started to have a love for horror 😊
It was everyone's favorite
YES, PERFECT TIMING JOHN. I just finished making my food, and I was hoping you'd upload this vid by the time I sat down to eat, and you delivered!
The amount of work you're putting into your new videos is incredible! The hbomberguy parody bit with the greenscreened axe chop caught me so off guard, holy crap.
I've been watching for so many years that it's great to see (what seems to be) a revitalization in your spirit, and I hope branching out and trying things you want to try, embracing unedited footage on your second channel, and pursuing your passions has brought you happiness. To think, all this while also being a new father. Incredible stuff, John!
That air segment OMG thank you so much for this content! This entire video demonstrates why you are my favorite content creator!!
I'd love to you see you read one of those Goosebumps books where you can make decisions that alter the story. Some of them are pretty short.
I'm loving these in-depth analyses videos you release, John! If there's any way I can get your sass and dad jokes in longer video form, I'm down.
The hair, beard, and corny puns… our boy has never looked so much like Gale of Waterdeep. Now I desperately need to hear him say “You licked a dead spider”
I love this content. Hope the series stays popular, so we can go through all the books.
I'm so happy to see another installment of this series!
This series brings me such joy! As a fellow goose bumps kido I cant help but love these nostalgia jumps
34:15 just thinking about John slowly moving a light over the book for this spooky effect. 10/10
That HBomber Guy bit was amazing. It is one of my favorite clips of him, and your homage was excellent.
Love this series! I never read the Goosebumps books as a kid but watched the TV show so it’s interesting seeing the comparison.
It absolutely killed me when you Jack Torrenced through the book, and the link to the ad read was great. I’d love to see the series continue!
I was wondering how they made an episode about Let's Get Invisible, but then realised I was thinking about My Best Friend is Invisible.
There actually was an adaptation of that book too in the show!
@@broadwaylover5384 The twist of the book should make that impossible.
My son loves goosebumps, so I ended up buying all the old tv episodes and as many of the books as I could find on eBay in excitement. Upon re-reading, I felt as if I were wearing my slap bracelet, chewing bubble tape and listening to Kris Kross all over again.
I remembered that the first book about dummy in goosebumps series scared me the most.
There was this part describing the sounds of wooden foodsteps comes closer and closer to the protag' s bedroom.
My heartbeat went so fast while reading that part.
First video of John's I ever watched was his goosebumps the game gameplay when I was in 5th or 6th grade.
I'm so ready. This series makes great use of John's snark.
oh my goodness, your sense of humor is a gift, it’s a blessing to see you performing 🙏🏻☺️ Being yourself is the best thing to do! Thank you ❤
