Johnny vs. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

  • This past April, a sequel to my favorite Zelda game was announced and I couldn't have been more excited. However, does Zelda's next adventure on the Nintendo 3DS live up to it's predecessor on the SNES? Does it do much different than A Link to the Past to begin with? From my 3DS to your screen, it's the review of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.

    You know what's kind of scary to think about
    If link didn't have ravio bracelet he would have been stuck in a wall for eternity and slowly gone insane because of no human contact. When I thought this I was kind spooked.

      Zephyr I thought that was quite a bit too convenient when it happened as I played it, but once I saw the end and saw Ravio's actual motives, everything made much more sense to me.

    Well the reason it feels a lot like ALTTP is because it originally started off as a remake for that game but they decided to make it a sequel instead. The only thing I can really connect to ALTTP and ALBW is that the overworld is the same and some of the bosses are as well but other than that this is a brilliant sequel.

    Probably tied with Wind Waker for third favorite Zelda game behind OoT and MM. The things I didn't like about ALTTP got fixed drastically here and I was able to enjoy the experience a lot more. I agree it was generally too easy, and the baseball minigame can go die in a fire, but I really do like this game.

      Nayrman214 What should've been the game's ending message if you didn't beat it on Hero Mode OoT original N64 commercial style toned down I guess, hey at least I'm not sexist right? :P "Classy" for children/man-children anyway... classic Nintendo right there, *tips fedora at that one...
      Commercial subtext as follows: & In the end willst thou get the girl.... OR.. PLAY LIKE ONE! *Suddenly every prepubescent, & gaming nerd adult at the time before the phrase & gaming itself became mainstream was like... AWWW NOOOO YA DIIIIIIDNNNNN'T/HALE NAWWWW NIGGAAAA~! "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED MUTHAFUKA!"
      And though amusing as it is I'm sure it invoked ALOT of sexism/dissension amongst gamers at the time...
      & now what should've been: ALBW credits message: Nice Job "Hero..." But if ya didn't do it on Hero Mode... Now's your chance to be a TRUE hero & REALLY go the distance this time... (*HFC topical humour for all of you that watch them... :D) All... *Bruce Campbell: EVARRRRRRRRRYONNNNNNEEEEE* of you... x)
      In HERO Mode... insert player name here: Ryan... Or is thou toeth mucheth a cucco (the Zelda equivalent of a chicken & Kakarriko village they have KFC, Kakariko style though basically...yup.) *in game cucco sounds* Subtext appears with Yuga laughing his flamboyant ass off saying....* Fairies are allowed ya know... *troll-face* x3

    I grew up loving Link to the Past in the early 90's. I know it as well as any guide could ever tell you. I never thought a game would surpass it as my favorite Zelda. Definitely none of the 3D titles. Then, now in my 30's, I played and finished this game. And damn... I think this is my number one now. I can't believe I'm saying that.

    • @frozenaorta
      @frozenaorta Před 7 lety

      Zer0dog I am among the few that think the transition to 3D didn't work all that well for Link. Wind Waker is pretty good. But I am of the Egoraptor school of thought that the games became too linear and predictable. The puzzles and games in general too simple. The Z-targeting too much of a disconnect from environmental strategy. I find them tedious. But I realize I'm in the minority here. I just happened to grow up with the early top down games, and I think that's where Zelda is at its best. My opinion.

    • @thegrayghost1786
      @thegrayghost1786 Před 7 lety

      frozenaorta Just to put in my two cents, I'm with Johnny, the original one just wasn't all that good. The hints were vague if anything and the combat wasn't all that good. I like the 3D games because they never get too vague or too easy on what you are supposed to do, and while they are linear, in my eyes there is nothing wrong with. However you and I are from different generations of gaming. You played the original back when you were a kid so you were conditioned to the game and probably got a lot of enjoyment out of it because video games in your day were a lot more simple than now. If you released a game nowadays with vague hints Original Zelda esque then no doubt kids would get bored and stuck and would put down the game. That being said, the only top down Zelda games I've played was this one and Spirit Tracks (both of which are great games in their own right). I've played Links Awakening and never got far and the original one as well, yet again I never got far. I am getting a plug in SNES USB controller to play A Link to the Past and if it is anything like A Link Between Worlds (which it looks like) then I will no doubt have a blast playing it. I would appreciate more top down Zelda games that are more like ALTTP or ALBW instead of the original, that being said I find enjoyment out of both top down and three dimensional games.

      ***** I didn't have too much trouble with Spirit Tracks, though to be serious those flute parts were annoying in the later parts of the game, ESPECIALLY at the final boss. Second boss of the game annoyed the crap out of me, and when I hit the Ocean Temple, I basically just gave up and used a guide for the rest of the game because of how annoying it all got(I stayed up almost a whole night in my bed playing the game, trying to get past a puzzle in the Ocean Temple, and I couldn't figure out what to do! Eventually my DS's battery ran low and I had to stop before I lost too much progress). Still, given Spirit Tracks is the only game I completely beat, I will say until I beat another Zelda game that it's the best Zelda game in my opinion. It has its flaws, but every game does and it was enjoyable.
      BTW, isn't that Sand Wand just really freaking awesome to use? It was awkward at first using the stylus for everything, but it was all worth it with the Sand Wand. And the train parts aren't as bad as everyone says(I really like the train, seriously why do so many people hate it?)

    I remembered the day I was in love with the zelda series after playing wind waker. I heard many people love Ocarina of Time. I wanted to buy it but at the same time, I wanted to buy A Link Between worlds. I had a weekend with one extra holiday, I was planning to buy Ocarina of Time because people said that Ocarina of time is some of the best Zelda games. When I went to the store, they ran out of stock. So I changed my mind, I bought A Link Between Worlds instead. I was disappointed because I bought this game instead of Ocarina of Time. BOY, I WAS WRONG. A Link Between worlds is SO much better than Ocarina of Time. I have a blast without being stucked for the first time in a Zelda game. When I bought Ocarina of Time, the game was nothing more than a Time paster. I still love Ocarina of Time but it took me so dang long to beat the game and I spent most of my time walking and being annoyed by puzzles rather than killing enemies.

      PikaLink91 Well of course it's fair. They're both games and they're both Zelda. I've never understood the "it's different so it's not fair to compare them" thing. That's exactly what comparing is! Accounting for differences and similarities. Of course it's fair. It's like saying it's not fair to compare Superman and Batman. Of course it is. You can't compare something to itself so differences are inherent to the process.

      @BowserandLover1 Před 8 lety

      No you're not, I very much agree. People should stop saying ALBW is better because it's like an updated version of ALTTP with a few new innovations. And people should stop saying ALTTP is better because it's the first official Zelda game that has really shaped the series into what it is now. If anything, there should be no contest on which is the best. Most Zelda games are fantastic and people don't need to fight over which one they believe is the best because deep down they all are in the hearts of fans. Every one is going to have their personal fav and no one is wrong about which one is their fav. If theres someone that even says Zelda 2 is their favorite, don't judge them. Accept it because even that game is great regardless of it's different play style in comparison to most Zelda games.

    I did not like Link Between Worlds. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but it was the first Zelda game that I didn't enjoy nearly as much as all the others.
    Ravio is the sole reason for this.
    To me, the best part of a Zelda game is a certain type of dungeon design; the dungeon that makes you find ways around not having the dungeon item until you get said item. For example, the dungeon may have several pits to traverse using increasingly convoluted methods, until you get the hookshot, which makes all those pits trivial to get over. Not every Zelda dungeon does this, but when they do, they do it really well.
    Then Link Between Worlds decided to give me every item from the start. This naturally precludes the aforementioned dungeon design.
    I still beat the game, even with most (though not all) of the heart pieces and turtle guys, but it's not a title I'm likely to replay.

    • @marty9748
      @marty9748 Před 9 lety +1

      Manabender initially getting all items made the game unbalanced, neither is there any real challenge which made it underwhelming.. and having enemies that does more damage, in the hard mode, is more annoying than challenging! Well well, hopes up for Zelda Wii U :D

    • @MrSupahLink
      @MrSupahLink Před 9 lety

      Manabender The whole item shop thing was also completely pointless, since every dungeon required you to have one specific item. And in turn, the dungeons got a lot shorter, because the one half where you should be trying to get this new weapon has been removed. Just in general the difficulty of the dungeons was way too easy, because with the undefined order, every dungeon could be the first one.

      @herosquad90 Před 9 lety

      Manabender If you think it isn't as good because it gives you ever item from the start, then you don't truely get Zelda like many do.
      Zelda is not about recieveing items, it is about stopping evil by any means possible, usually including dungeons. Items simply help you along the way.

    • @MrSupahLink
      @MrSupahLink Před 9 lety +1
