- It's time to revisit one of my favorite games for this episode of New Game Plus: Zelda A Link Between Worlds! I was involved in this Zelda game even before it came out, and it holds a special place in my heart as a follow up to Zelda A Link to the Past. Jump between Hyrule and Lorule to save both worlds and become a painting to explore the 2D world and navigate dungeons. Lets' jump into my Link Between Worlds review!

The Completionist try to avoid the corona.
Dude you might want to postpone
Corona:
*oh no you aint*
This games completion bonus: Winner, Winner. Chicken Dinner.... because you are gonna have some form of chicken as revenge against the Cuckoos.
This video is GREAT 👍
Survive a gauntlet of absolute Cuckoo despair.
Reward: little smooches to help you on your way
The true little smooches were the friends we made along the way.
Sounds nice
getting cucked by the Cuckoos
As a single man stuck in Covid 2020, a little smooches would definitely go a long way.
@@etherealbirchwood5748 yes but it would give you a short way to catch corona
The intro for the original episode of this is still one of my favorites.
"Hey Jirard, you excited for the new Zelda g-"
"I BEAT IT."
"... What?"
"NINTENDURRRRRRR"
"Ninten-DURRRRR!"
(Random zoom in/out)
"Ninten... durrrr!"
(zoom in & said quickly) _"Nintendurrrr--"_ (cue intro)
Yup. Rung well with me because...
That's me with literally every Zelda.
NINDENDURRRRR
This is probably the best zelda game for completionists. A lot of stuff to complete, but not too much, like BotW has.
Also there is something that ALBW has that BOTW lacks:
*Dungeons* .
I just think it's the best game period
@@R.P.Genocraft Nope, where is the visual variety and enemy, the room variety and exploration, good bosses?
@@R.P.GenocraftYou can't call an objective thing as subjective for the sake of ignoring the flaws of a Zelda game that is your favorite.
*Laughs in 900 korok seeds*
Jirard says: “Cuz you know, that's the whole name of the show; point of the show. That's why you're WATCHING!”
Oh, Jirard... being a completionist may be your gimmick, but that's not why we watch the show. :) We watch it because you're funny, thorough, humble, and fair.
At least, that's why I watch it. 👍🏻
Agreed. I appreciate the gimmick, because I do have a completionist streak in me, but I'm more interesting in his general opinion. Like, I'll get 100% items in Super Metroid. Rebuilding FFX's entire Sphere Grid so I can clear that stupid coliseum? Screw that.
i like how the lorule counterparts are the opposite of link zelda and ganon. ravio is a coward lacking the courage to stay and fight for lorule. hilda is not wise because she thinks she can use yuga. yuga is not all powerful as he can't control ganon after he fuses with him
I'm pretty sure Yuga's possession of Ganon was a success. He's still overall weaker though.
Ravio is so opposite of Link that he actually talks.
One theory is that the Lorule counterparts embody different parts of the triforce than their Hyrule ones.
Ravio being wise enough to not get involved with Hilda and Yuga's scheme and find a hero to do the work for him.
Hilda being power hungry and wanting to use the power of Hyrule's triforce for her own selfish reasons.
Yuga being couragous enough to travel to a foreign realm and attempting to fuse and control a being of immense power to help his queen, even if it could mean the loss of his own consciousness.
Also, all three of them change and develop their counterparts attributes by the end of the game, paralleling the restoration of Lorule’s triforce. Ravio works up the courage to stand up to Hilda, Hilda sees the error of her ways, and Yuga gains control of Ganon’s power. Pretty awesome symbolism.
As if the games themselves weren't awesome already, there's always this subtle, unspoken symbolism, story-telling, and character development going on. I love it.
"I would personally love to see a Switch version."
Hell yeah. (:
We really outta get a ton of 3DS ports just like Wii U ports
Nicktendo 1 well we got a port of rune factory 4
That would be great, I really want to see the Oracle games first though.
I'd love to see a switch version of this game.
I hope the Switch 2 is actually the Switch 3d. I love 3d and want it in FHD
*KFC: "Kakariko fried Cucco"*
I assumed it was pronounced "mai-a-mai", similar to the phrase "My, oh my!"
@hi apple your a bot, bro.
Me too!
it's mai-mai. the localization added another A because I think they get paid by the change.
Like "My oh my, I somehow lost ALL 100 OF MY CHILDREN"?!?
@hi apple you clearly don't know spelling though.
I was honestly waiting for you to give the game the rating of "Complete It - Except For Those Damn Chickens"
I’m starting to think there should be a rating that’s like Complete It with a caveat. Basically when it’s okay to do everything except 1 or 2
Nicktendo 1 we use to have Finapete it but he no longer does in between rankings. Finaplay it was another
SirCrashAttack I know, I ain’t new. But I still think a “Complete It*” would be useful.
Nicktendo 1 I agree with you. I like the way he did DKC 1 by no longer doing the 1 life 100% speedrun
I think the rating system itself is not that good, considering that it really only applies to a really small percentage of gamers and it can lead to situations like this one, where a game that he absolutely loves doesn't get the best rating because of one stupid challenge.
"15 minutes is such a long time!" cut to Shigeru Miyamoto quietly musing to himself "15 minutes isn't that long..."
16 minutes and 39.99 seconds
13 hours of dodging chickens. Nobody can tell me this man doesn´t work hard every day.
This was actually my first ever zelda game!
Mine was skyward sword but a link between worlds was the first one I beat
Mine too lad
Same buddy
Yes bro
Hopefully not the last one. ;)
I remember laughing at your original intro when this first dropped. Weird how I can already have nostalgia for your work.
Bring back Nintenderrrrr 😂
Before: Complete it.
After: Finish it.
Why? Cuccos.
The cucco challenge is the line I draw when attempting to complete a game. It’s just so crazy to expect anyone to sit through 15 minutes of mind numbing dodging
Let alone 13 hrs
Yet another game that shows how good the 3DS is and definitely a system you should buy now! It's got a massive library and really cheap games.
Lorule Castle is my favorite final dungeon in the Zelda series. The music, the atmosphere, the difficulty, all perfect.
@hi apple Begone bot!!!!!
Does Sword and Shield maze count as a final dungeon because if it does then that's my favorite.
Aw hell yeah, that climactic music
Difficulty? This game is ridiculously easy, no challenge whatsoever. Even the heart pieces are easier to get compared to most zelda games.
In my most recent playthrough of this game, I completed everything but the streetpass and cuckoo challenge. And I was fine with that because honestly, the 999+ second cuckoo challenge is wack.
Yeah I'm doing this game for the first time and just beat the rooster level. I got the heart piece and that's all I care about
>Talks about item upgrades being cool
>Uses Ice Rod in the footage
Oh Jirard, you so punny.
*15 minutes in the eye of a chicken storm is something a man never forgets* 😂
As a HUGE Zelda fan AND completionist myself, this game broke me with the Endless Cuccoo challenge! Still haunts me to this day that I never fully finished ALBW because of those damn chickens...
Do you remember your record time?
Mine was 859.42 or something like that. You can't imagine the heart drop I felt when I got hit...
Austin Dockins Wow... too much man... just thinking about doing over 800 seconds and then having to start over gives me anxiety 😱 Stay strong 💪🏻
@@austindockins570 I think I only got past 500! If not less... It's been awhile since I've picked up my 3DS.
"15 minutes in the eye of a chicken storm is something a man never forgets" hahaha. I've actually taken care of chickens and can confirm, that would be a nightmare
Every Zelda game is great in my eyes
I see you everywhere omg
Gee, it sure is *boring* around here
Khaeldranis I honestly loved both of them so much lol
Khaeldranis Spirit Tracks is pretty good, Phantom Hourglass is where I’ll agree
Including the CD-i games? ;)
Ok I actually watrched the video. Appreciate you and your honesty when it comes to our good pal StreetPass fella and the BIG CUCCO.
I give my respect to you.
This is in my top five Zelda games. GOD it's so great and I feel like it's never talked about that much! I need to replay this one... it's been years.
"Fifteen seconds in the eye of a chicken storm is something a man never forgets." Hahaha That's a sentence I will never forget.
aLBW is one of my favorite games ever. I have 100% completed it multiple times
glad for you I keep getting one-shot by Gannon at the end
Including the chicken storm?
Same
Yeah, it kinda sucks that it got dropped a whole level for just the one mini game. Unfortunately, though, it deserved it. I think I gave up at hour 5.
There's always that one mini game that makes you go "But why? Why would you do?"
When you were talking about the cuccoo rush, it was funny.
So happy to see this episode! The thing is that, right around the same time it came out, my friend from highschool gave back the copy of the game I lented to him all that time back and I finally got to play it again! I even pushed myself to complete it, jumping straight into hardmode (Not my smartest idea, too be honest). All around, the nostalgia I got from replaying this game and watching this episode brought to me a lot of joy in this period of great darkness. Thank you and be safe.
Whelp, time to dig out my copy and get to playing again. Absolutely loved this game when it came out.
There's no way Jirard covered this during the first 120!
Wait, did he say 2013?
...
That was 7 years ago?!
Is 3DS a retro console now?!
Oh shit its 7 years old. Oh no
The 3DS is not a retro console yet because New 2DS hardware is still being produced
@Aarón Del Valle The New Nintendo 2DS was discontinued on September 17th, 2020. According to my watch history, I watched this video and posted my comment on August 12th, 2020. Therefore, I was right at the time
@@nostalgiaworks5999 The 3DS is as old as the N64 when it was considered retro. Sorry, I don't make the rules.
@@DarkLink1996. The heck are you talking about? The N64 became retro when Nintendo stopped making hardware; the 3DS became retro in the same way
Now that i watched your update video your videos appeared in my suggested box. This is my favorite zelda game and this was a great video and wouldn't have seen it if i had not watched the other video.
Yuga backwards is just "A guy"
The original episode was my introduction to your work, glad to have found your channel Jirard, I hope to never see that DKC2 episode
17:24 That's probably because that's the point. Just like with getting all 900 Korok Seeds in BotW, you are not meant to do that and if you do they let you know that it was a fucking waste of time, lol.
I'm glad you got play one of my favorite Zelda games. I have played a few of them before, but A Link Between Worlds was the first Zelda game I (mostly) completed and it was a HUGE confidence boost that got me to play more video games. Thanks for completing one great piece of Zelda history (someday). P.S. I never heard of the 999.99 Cuoco Run before I watched this. My condolences for beating such a not-worthwhile run.
I remember watching the videos by Nintendo about A Link Between Worlds and seeing Jirard. I was so happy that someone I knew in the gaming community became connected with my favorite gaming company. Great video Jirard, you're making me nostalgic for those times again.
Surprised this doesn't get more views. All of this content is so wholesome, good for youtube and gaming. It's good, thank you!
The original upload of this was the very first time I came across your channel, and it's always stuck itself in the back of my mind. Great to see it on the show again!
This is very nostalgic. The A Link Between Worlds episode was my very first episode of The Completionist and I've been a fan since (and back then went back and watched all the other episodes). It has been a long time and a LOT of completed games, but I look forward to more of this great content in the future.
I think when you finish the endlees cucco rush your reward should be a cucco whistle to summon a barrage of cuccos to attack your enemies.
Those chickens are what kept me from full completion of the game. It bad. It really really bad.
13:30 There is a popular theory (with quite a lot of evidence) that Gramps is likely the Hero of Legend from ALttP, LA and the Oracle Games. So its pretty cool that you get to fight him.
I remember first picking up this game. The second I popped open the game, the music brought tears to my eyes 😂😁❤
I felt like I was 6 again 😁
I remember doing the cuccos challenge years ago and posting it on Zelda discord. My lord I was happy after a few failed tried. I remember how it hurt my hands and stressed the F out of me in that last 100 seconds they throw flying, grounded and giant cuccos at you, madness, madness, madness. Completely batsh*t insane.
I remember when I first got this game and was completely sucked into it and tried to explain the turning into a painting feature as "and then I slap myself against the wall to move around obstacles".
Definitely one of the most enjoyable Zelda games to me too and honestly my fave on both the DS and 3DS.
Man I LOVE this game, I’m so excited that this episode is out again! Excellent work on this one, glad you enjoyed it as much as the first time :D
Love this game! Also always great when Jirard gets to do a game for the show he really likes.
Wow! I just spent the past three days replaying through this game. Glad to see Jirard doing the same :D
I still haven't bothered with the Endless Cucco challenge.
Some minigames should not count towards a game being "Completed". Sadly, the "Chicken Pen from Hell" gives JUST ENOUGH of a reward for it to count, and it HATE THAT! I am going to buy KFC tomorrow out of protest.
this is what kills any completion replay value from albw. if it ever receives a port, i would like to see a second quest, and this mini-game erased from history.
I believe that the chicken pen is part of an unfortunate trend of adding anti completion challenges. Because somehow having the game complete-able without some kind of insane challenge devalues it.
@@MrInternetHermit ironically i find it does the opposite, however, the game itself is not that challenging, but no other zelda game comes anywhere close to that magnitude of torture. the only challenge before that was brutal was getting all 64 rings in OoX, however, thanks to the password, you never have to get them again if you saved it and while many were rng based, the worst offenders were the platinum goron dance and the hero's cave in ages. that being said, neither one had an rng infested bullet hell of more than 16 and a half minutes. now imagine if there was a port and ninty trolled us by removing the pause feature in this chicken infested hellhole. super mario maker had gnat attack hard, which i still cannot complete, but i don't know if overall which is worse.
@@chaosprime1629 The rings in the oracle games aren't that hard, there is plenty of ways to help out. The only "challenge" is the fact that you have to complete both linked games twice.
@@MrInternetHermit i was able to get them all but there still is a lot of rng to get some of them, however, i had much better luck with the gasha ring. the worst ring experiences were the platinum goron dance (this one is evil, but still nothing compared to gnat attack or the endless cucco), and that lava room in the here's cave was pretty obnoxious. actually, it just occurred to me that spirit tracks has a pretty bad challenge where you need to get 900 hits on sword training. it does not help that you might accidentally touch the exit which if repeated several times ends the mini-game. tww ahd ph also had a target practice mini-game but they were much easier and just very tedious. PH also had getting the ship parts, which ever since the wifi shutdown takes much longer to obtain. that being said, nothing is worse than this monstrosity in the entire franchise. i have not played much of botw but getting the 900 koroks sounds like a chore. prior to the hd remaster, getting all figurines in tww was painfully tedious that i never bothered getting them all because it was more of a fake challenge.
This is my second favorite Zelda, while Majora's mask is my #1.
That said, PLEASE do Maximum Carnage next for new game +
Thank you for your amazing video!!! I love your videos and this game. So thank you for the revisit
Just went through this game the first time myself yesterday and I absolutely loved it. The puzzles were so much fun and some moments were a bit of a headscratcher but I figured it out in the end. Got surprised a few times and Love some of the new features from older enemies. The soundtrack was fantastic and I would definitely play through it again, or just go back to the milk bar. Although I gave myself a harder time (bought a second hand copy) and Dove straight into hero mode. And got the blue mail on my 2nd to last dungeon. And the haze of enjoying lorule castle made me completely forget about the red mail until I saw the credits and realised my clothes were still blue. Though I managed to get 19 hearts blind and 80 maiamai's! Guess its time to get the rest :v
Hahaha you got pranked by the cucco rush reward. Imagine surviving 999sec of hell to win a giant cucco that doesn't even follow you or does anything interesting. What a legendary game.
13 hours of cuccos!! I CANNOT even imagine. I bow to the completionist.
Me: Link Between Worlds is the first game I’ve fully completed!
Jirard: ...the street pass medals and endless cucco mode...
Me: *F U C K*
Same, did everything except those
This game is my favorite game on the 3DS and favorite Zelda game! I have played through it dozens and dozens of time (which include normal playthroughs, speedruns, and more recently randomizers) and I can honestly say that I have enjoyed it every time. The only thing I have not done is the Endless Cuckoo mini game. I have never seriously grinded it out before because I know how freaking difficult it will Hearing Jirard confirm that nightmare with his time to complete being 13hrs is mind numbing to me. One day, when I get another working 3DS I may take on that challenge but I doubt it will be anytime soon. Even with this small flaw to truly complete the game, it is an experience that I hope others will take the time to enjoy!
Love your channel bro!!! Keep the great content coming. :)
This was the first game that I ever 100 percent completed, it is one of my favourite legend of Zelda games due to this, something I just learned was that you could pause the buffer the game during the cucoo storm, this would have been useful during the 5+ hours spent trying to complete the endless death chicken storm
Great episode! It's been a few years since I've played ALBW but it's so good! Loved the mega chicken (but I'll never do that).
awesome vid man! i love the between worlds, and the oracle games
Hyrule at Peace is one of my favorite songs from a Nintendo game. Hands down. Love this game so much
You dun good Jirard. Keep up the good and entertaining work!
This video.... I’ve been waiting for the next Zelda title you complete
And that minigame is the reason I am afraid of cuccos! Still have nightmares about it, trying to run away from the cuccos!
oooooh i was once subscribed to you when you had no beard! XD time flies. good do be back
The cucco dodging reminded me of dodging lightning bolts in final fantasy X. So hard lol.
6:14 - heard what Jirard? 😂😂
16:17 you did it, but at what did it cost
Jerard: Everything.
Im going rhrough watching the new game plus videos and im loving it. Thank you man for all your chicken work lol
Yo Jirard, you should complete FOSSIL FIGHTERS!!!
I remember buying that game for my baby brother because it seemed like a good kid game. I wound up watching him play it and then took it and beat it before giving it back to him. I had fun and I let my brother play Spectrobes instead. Something about dinosaurs fighting each other is very appealing no matter what age you are.
DUDE!!! I also played spectrodes too!!!
You made me laugh so hard with that chicken segment. Hilarious 😂
I completed this game in about a month. Which I'm actually happy about. I like it when collectables are chellenging but not impossible. And the controls are so quick and smooth and the open ended gameplay makes it so much fun to revisit
19:51 He then precedes to have Nightmares where those Giant Cucco hunt him town and tear him limb from limb.
Renting items was huge. And an amazing answer for ruppee over load. Also I would have load a cucco rod for that 15 min rush game. You could have used it to like summon cuccos to attack enemies or something
And that guitar + violin soundtrack ❤️
I just started playing it a few days ago and I love it! This is also my first Zelda game that I have ever played.
During the greeting, Blur your vision for a moment. THERE'S FIRE IN HIS EYES!!!
O.O Im a recent subscriber. I just recently watched the Link to the Past video as part of my catch up. I clicked on this as natural progression. I had no clue it was just posted until now, three hours after watching the video.
i've completed it a couple of weeks ago without collecting any maiamai. It's my first time completing zelda game. It has great dungeons, plot twitst and music
I think this series needs a new rating of "Fini-plete" for games like this where completion rewards are ooooh so satisfying except for "That ONE challenge!".
Hirule and Lowrule. I love that so much
19:57 Fried cuccos baby!
I absolutely love the mini games in ALBW. Especially the treacherous towers
The reward for completing the cucko 999.99 time should have been to play as a cucko with the triforce of courage.
My man, that thumbnail art is top tier.
Props to the artist.
This is my favorite Zelda game that I’ve played. I prefer the top down view in this game as opposed to the 3d of majoras mask and other 3d zeldas. I’ve played the game twice, completing it in hero mode the second time. My favorite part about it is that I was able to complete most of it without any help from guides. I loved this game!
+The Completionist
Fun fact about Gramps the old man you fight for geting all the streetpass achevments is likely ALTTP Link as an old Man
This is one of my favorite Zelda games ever! It has a speical place in my heart to me. But, I also didn't know about the Cucco Challenge, Thank Hylia! I would love a Switch Port/Remaster!
Awesome Video
I reckon you could ignore the final cucco prize as completion, since it doesn't actually change anything beyond a tiny aesthetic difference. With the 300 korok seeds, you get the item slots but the cucco minigame after the heart container is just rupees so it makes it like any other minigame that you can stop playing after getting all the prizes.
Awwww heck that Cuccoo challenge. Of course, deep down, part of me wants to pick this game back up again and actually attempt that evil challenge from just now learning about it. >.>"
10:51 Who else heard the Cox n Crendor intro in their head after hearing the chicken?
YO! Me, Right here.
the uni brow is still as strong as day 1! congrats!
Finished ridiculous chicken challenge.
Game: "I heard you liked chicken!" 😋
for that 15 minute cucco challenge they should've rewarded you an item that lets you summon the cucco swarm to attack all enemys but at the cost of being unable to use other items or use wall merge.
