  • It's time to revisit one of my favorite games for this episode of New Game Plus: Zelda A Link Between Worlds! I was involved in this Zelda game even before it came out, and it holds a special place in my heart as a follow up to Zelda A Link to the Past. Jump between Hyrule and Lorule to save both worlds and become a painting to explore the 2D world and navigate dungeons. Lets' jump into my Link Between Worlds review!

    i like how the lorule counterparts are the opposite of link zelda and ganon. ravio is a coward lacking the courage to stay and fight for lorule. hilda is not wise because she thinks she can use yuga. yuga is not all powerful as he can't control ganon after he fuses with him

    • @browncow5210
      @browncow5210 Před 4 lety +34

      I'm pretty sure Yuga's possession of Ganon was a success. He's still overall weaker though.

      Ravio is so opposite of Link that he actually talks.

    • @linkrocks01
      @linkrocks01 Před 4 lety +74

      One theory is that the Lorule counterparts embody different parts of the triforce than their Hyrule ones.
      Ravio being wise enough to not get involved with Hilda and Yuga's scheme and find a hero to do the work for him.
      Hilda being power hungry and wanting to use the power of Hyrule's triforce for her own selfish reasons.
      Yuga being couragous enough to travel to a foreign realm and attempting to fuse and control a being of immense power to help his queen, even if it could mean the loss of his own consciousness.

    • @silvermoon2608
      @silvermoon2608 Před 4 lety +50

      Also, all three of them change and develop their counterparts attributes by the end of the game, paralleling the restoration of Lorule’s triforce. Ravio works up the courage to stand up to Hilda, Hilda sees the error of her ways, and Yuga gains control of Ganon’s power. Pretty awesome symbolism.

    • @Christopher-md7tf
      @Christopher-md7tf Před 4 lety +15

      As if the games themselves weren't awesome already, there's always this subtle, unspoken symbolism, story-telling, and character development going on. I love it.

      I remember buying that game for my baby brother because it seemed like a good kid game. I wound up watching him play it and then took it and beat it before giving it back to him. I had fun and I let my brother play Spectrobes instead. Something about dinosaurs fighting each other is very appealing no matter what age you are.

    Some minigames should not count towards a game being "Completed". Sadly, the "Chicken Pen from Hell" gives JUST ENOUGH of a reward for it to count, and it HATE THAT! I am going to buy KFC tomorrow out of protest.

      this is what kills any completion replay value from albw. if it ever receives a port, i would like to see a second quest, and this mini-game erased from history.

    • @MrInternetHermit
      @MrInternetHermit Před 4 lety +5

      I believe that the chicken pen is part of an unfortunate trend of adding anti completion challenges. Because somehow having the game complete-able without some kind of insane challenge devalues it.

    • @chaosprime1629
      @chaosprime1629 Před 4 lety

      @@MrInternetHermit ironically i find it does the opposite, however, the game itself is not that challenging, but no other zelda game comes anywhere close to that magnitude of torture. the only challenge before that was brutal was getting all 64 rings in OoX, however, thanks to the password, you never have to get them again if you saved it and while many were rng based, the worst offenders were the platinum goron dance and the hero's cave in ages. that being said, neither one had an rng infested bullet hell of more than 16 and a half minutes. now imagine if there was a port and ninty trolled us by removing the pause feature in this chicken infested hellhole. super mario maker had gnat attack hard, which i still cannot complete, but i don't know if overall which is worse.

      @MrInternetHermit Před 4 lety

      @@chaosprime1629 The rings in the oracle games aren't that hard, there is plenty of ways to help out. The only "challenge" is the fact that you have to complete both linked games twice.

      @@MrInternetHermit i was able to get them all but there still is a lot of rng to get some of them, however, i had much better luck with the gasha ring. the worst ring experiences were the platinum goron dance (this one is evil, but still nothing compared to gnat attack or the endless cucco), and that lava room in the here's cave was pretty obnoxious. actually, it just occurred to me that spirit tracks has a pretty bad challenge where you need to get 900 hits on sword training. it does not help that you might accidentally touch the exit which if repeated several times ends the mini-game. tww ahd ph also had a target practice mini-game but they were much easier and just very tedious. PH also had getting the ship parts, which ever since the wifi shutdown takes much longer to obtain. that being said, nothing is worse than this monstrosity in the entire franchise. i have not played much of botw but getting the 900 koroks sounds like a chore. prior to the hd remaster, getting all figurines in tww was painfully tedious that i never bothered getting them all because it was more of a fake challenge.

    This game is my favorite game on the 3DS and favorite Zelda game! I have played through it dozens and dozens of time (which include normal playthroughs, speedruns, and more recently randomizers) and I can honestly say that I have enjoyed it every time. The only thing I have not done is the Endless Cuckoo mini game. I have never seriously grinded it out before because I know how freaking difficult it will Hearing Jirard confirm that nightmare with his time to complete being 13hrs is mind numbing to me. One day, when I get another working 3DS I may take on that challenge but I doubt it will be anytime soon. Even with this small flaw to truly complete the game, it is an experience that I hope others will take the time to enjoy!

    Just went through this game the first time myself yesterday and I absolutely loved it. The puzzles were so much fun and some moments were a bit of a headscratcher but I figured it out in the end. Got surprised a few times and Love some of the new features from older enemies. The soundtrack was fantastic and I would definitely play through it again, or just go back to the milk bar. Although I gave myself a harder time (bought a second hand copy) and Dove straight into hero mode. And got the blue mail on my 2nd to last dungeon. And the haze of enjoying lorule castle made me completely forget about the red mail until I saw the credits and realised my clothes were still blue. Though I managed to get 19 hearts blind and 80 maiamai's! Guess its time to get the rest :v

    I reckon you could ignore the final cucco prize as completion, since it doesn't actually change anything beyond a tiny aesthetic difference. With the 300 korok seeds, you get the item slots but the cucco minigame after the heart container is just rupees so it makes it like any other minigame that you can stop playing after getting all the prizes.

    The reward for beating the Cucco challenge should've been Cucco Armor. Cucco themed armor where if your damaged 3 times consecutively then it summons a hoard of Cucco's to attack your enemies. It would've been silly, useful and it would've made sense as a prize for that challenge.

Let the game run unpaused in a safe area (while you are sleeping, for example) and it will generate enough opponents for you to complete the street pass challenges. (that's how I managed to do it, btw).
